First Time Customer
First time customer since I got charged for previous damage by Goldcar Alicante. The service from Firefly compared to Goldcar is excellent. No long queues at the desk - a customer was talking with the Goldcar agent all of the time I was waiting and then signing the documents and getting the keys. No hard sell or scare tactics to get the extra insurance, simple acceptance it was not required. There were 9 in the Goldcar queue and it was hardly moving due to the lengthy sales push by their staff. Returned the car with no issues and very friendly person checking the car over. Would honestly recommend.
I would never used again!
I would never used again!
Got charged €136 the day after coming home for insurance that was never explained or agreed to.
I prebooked and paid with extra insurance with Do You Spain who never replied to me.
Barclaycard refunded the money as they considered it an unauthorised transaction now Firefly are using a debt collection agency to recover it!
This was at Malaga airport.
Avoid at all cost!!
Avoid at all cost!!
We were charged $181 for insurance we didn't want or agree to. Similar to many other reviews we've since read, we were told when we collected the car that the charge would be refunded in full upon the vehicle being returned with a full tank - this is a total lie! Be sure to read the contract in full and do not believe a single word you're told.
We complained to Firefly claiming that the insurance was mis-sold but were told 'that is what you signed for'! End of story. Extra insurance was not discussed at any time, we simply signed the contract provided.
Such a pity that yet another car rental company can't be trusted.
I have used Firefly on at least 5…
I have used Firefly on at least 5 occasions since autumn 2021 and I can only emphasise how trouble-free, easy and friendly the service I have received each time has been - and this is at Alicante Airport. Compared to their 'neighbour' just across the way (Gold Cars), it is night and day. Gold are rude, abrasive and intimidating. FireFly - the complete opposite!
We have not accepted additional rental…
We have not accepted additional rental insurance, which we have been charged (78 euro for 3 days). We hold a 1-year excess insurance policy to avoid paying extortionate "premium insurance fees" As we paid 35£ for 1-year premium insurance excess. . So if they have said anything about buying premium insurance, we would have declined it, but the staff at the rental desk didn't even mention any insurance.
We have been told that we are just paying the rental fee and fuel admin fee and fuel charge. If the vehicle is returned with a full tank, this would be refunded. We were under the impression that we are paying Euro 52.98 and on top of that a refundable fuel deposit.
They have also charged us for an additional driver for 3 days, despite adding the additional driver for 2h on the last day of the booking:
Then they charged us for "paying with a debit card" - despite paying with a credit card and this was their justification for charging us the premium for the insurance.
This is unacceptable and we will not be paying for these charges. We haven't even been given any documents to sign. So as far as I am concerned, we are only liable to pay for the 52.98 for the rental and 1 additional day for the driver.
LISBON AIRPORT:
Spent 10 minute finding their desk which was poorly signed but turned out to be the Hertz desk.
I had booked my car 6 weeks previously but the young man seemed embarrassed and told me there was only one car left and this was electric. As I was staying outside of Lisbon and had intended to to drive to a few remote towns, I said this was not convenient at all. The young man invoked the “help” of the manager who shrugged his shoulders, avoided eye contact and it was basically take it or leave it. I asked if he could swop a Hertz car in - NO. I asked if I could take the electric car and come back to exchange it tomorrow - NO.
I had no choice but to take the electric car as could not have got to my destination that evening except by getting a taxi and forfeiting the price I had already paid for a rental.
On top of all this, I asked that someone came to show me how to operate and charge the car, and the manager refused to let anyone leave the desk (they’re were 3 staff at the desk and no other customers queuing). The young man was completely embarrassed as had indicated his willingness to show me.
BTW, I’ve got nothing against electric cars of course but this was just not acceptable for the purpose of my visit.
I WILL NEVER USE FIREFLY CAR RENTAL AGAIN.
Overcharged and ignored - do not use firefly
As pretty much every other review says - stay clear!
All was good on collection of the car, or so it seemed anyway.
On our return, I noticed I had been overcharged by over £80.
Firefly are claiming that I agreed to additional costs even though I had repeatedly been reassured the contract was the same as the quote and I was signing the total cost.
Having read other reviews my partner and I stated three times that we did not want any additional insurance or costs and were happy with our quote.
Firefly added insurance that was an extremely similar cost to my quoted price, within pennies!!! The Firefly representative told us to sign next to this cost as it was the total. We questioned this, now a fourth time to make sure and he reassured us we would not be charged more than this price. We took his word for this!
Firefly are failing to investigate my complaint. I was clearly misrepresented my contract at the airport as the firefly representative clearly lied about the total cost!
Do not use Firefly!
I would give zero if I could
I would give zero if I could. Booked through the Easyjet car trawler page and paid for my weeks car hire. When arrived at Malaga airport almost impossible to find desk as tucked away on a floor of a car park. Then basically your car is not covered with anything and they try to get you to pay extra for everything, we took out the breakdown & recovery option but nothing else as I have an annual excess insurance. We were told at the desk that we picked up the car with a full tank, but we only had to return with a quarter tank. Queried this several times, but she was insistant , but glad we checked our rental agreement which said we would have got charged a fuel surcharge if we did that. No problems with the car but when we returned it to the airport it had a tiny stone chip on the paintwork of the wing, the way the assistant went on you would have thought we had ripped the wing off. Marched off to the office to type out the damage form for which they charged us over 200 Euros!! In the end with all the extras they added on cost us over £400 for a weeks car hire advertised as £165 on Easyjet. Has taken several emails to get details of the breakdown of costs and damage report for my claim company. Do not book with this company
Avoid these scammers at Malaga Airport.
Avoid these scammers like the plague. Mis-selling of insurance you don't want at the desk and charging you for fuel even if you have just filled the tank at the airport. They act very charmingly at desk in arrivals, like the smiling assassin. Please don't not use or be very careful.
FIREFLY AT MALAGA AIRPORT COLLECTION
FIREFLY AT MALAGA AIRPORT COLLECTION. Always always photograph and video the whole of the inside and outside of your vehicle before you take it away!!! Including UNDERNEATH the front and rear bumper. We've used them twice and both times they've argued that we damaged the vehicle and tried to charge us excessive repair costs. We saw other customers returning their vehicles and having the same issue. They also add an insurance premium on to your hire car charge without asking. We buy the insurance damage policy in the UK for £35 for the year. They wanted to charge €138 for a 7 day hire. I had to insist over and over that we were covered. The sales person on the desk was extremely unhappy that she wasn't able to auto charge us. Will NEVER use again! They appear to be making more money out of charging for false damage to cars and unnecessary insurance premiums. Very very immoral and unprofessional business practices.
If there was a box for no stars
If there was a box for no stars, I would stick it. I was charged for extra insurance cover that was more than the total cost paid for the car through rental cars.com. I had showed Firefly my own insurance excess policy. Why did I need extra cover that was neither explained or required. They charged me after the return of the car. Terrible customer service. My advice is to avoid at all costs.
EDREAMS/FIREFLY
Booked the car through edreams, had to leave a 225 euro deposit at airport, returned the car next day with full fuel tank as requested
5 days later only received 140 euros back
Shame on you firefly not even explained why and nobody will return emails
Shocking service, would not recommend to anyone
Avoid Firefly at Malaga airport
We found this firm highly recommended at Air Norwegian, with high scores for service and pricing, which is the reason we chose this company.
We rented a car for 11 days and paid in advance for the rent and for insurance. At the counter the receptionist said that a sum would be reserved in case of damages, but that this sum would be returned to us upon returning the car in good condition. This proved not to be the case, we returned the car in perfect condition. Nevertheless the company charged us double for the hire, after we had come home.
We complained, but the company refuses to pay us back.
The fact that we don't live in Spain makes it difficult for us to get in touch. They do not pick up the phone, nor is it easy to find their email address. We got in touch with them when we asked Visa to stop the transaction.
We googled to see how others had rated Firefly at Malaga Airport, and found that a vast amount of customers were very dissatisfied with the firm, and that they got very poor reviews, with a few exceptions.
It's a mystery to us that Air Norwegian recommends the firm and claims reviews are overall good, when they are overall bad.
This double-charging costs us en extra 250 euros.
We've traveled quite a lot and are used to hiring cars, but this is the first time we've experienced something like this.
We will avoid the firm in the future and warn others about the firm.
Wish i had read these other reviews…avoid Firefly
Wish i had read these other reviews earlier! Similar to other customers, Firefly service desk at Malaga airport insisted we HAD to choose another insurance option, despite having prepaid for the total cost in advance and us stating we didnt want any other insurance. Upon return to UK have been charged additional £117.58 for glass & tyres insurance, apparently accepted by us at the time of pick-up. This is clearly scamming customers/press-ganging them into additional charges. Will never book with Firefly again!
FireSHARK more like it. Be warned. AVOID like Covid.
FireSHARK more like it - not even worthy of one star.
Rental from Malaga airport: On lining up to get in the office to sing paperwork, we witnessed a customer experiencing problems with returning car. The staff said he'd put damage on their car. He warned me to be sure to take multiple pix as they were a slippery bunch.
After 45 minute wait finally got to the counter. Handed in our paid up car voucher (via Ryanair) declined any extra insurance, was asked to sign their print-out in multiple places as indicated. Noted 'damage marks' on the additional duplicate sheets. Given keys and form showing parking space in the multi-storey car park adjacent to their office. Found the car - took loads of pix - having been forewarned by the returning renter!! Very poor light in the parking area so took others immediately in the open. Car not the Opel we had expected but appeared to be same (small) size so presumed to be same category. (4 doors, small boot) Car probably year to 18 months old but drove good and was fine for 2 people. Returned the car 11 days later with full tank AND no extra damage marks. FireSHARK operative took our keys quickly, checked bodywork and fuel situation. Surprisingly, said all OK and we left to check in for our flight home.
However, a few days later we noticed an extra 111.31 Euros taken 24 days after we'd returned our car. (£93.88) As this was close to our £98.59 taken by Ryanair for our FireShark booking I queried the extra amount thinking it was a double charge. Ryanair explained that as I was a 75 year old we'd been hit with an extra charge. Further investigation showed that when booking on-line the form has various boxes to tick, but interestingly the box regarding renters age 21? -to 65 was already ticked!! My error in not seeing this so I copped an extra payment. I'll put my hands up to this error which incurred an extra charge. Anybody else (over 65) booking with FIRESHARK be warned. However, there was another extra charge marked 'MY CHOICE' This was never mentioned when signing the form at the desk, but the car they'd allotted us was obviously not (as I'd presumed) in the same group or class as the Opel I'd originally wanted. Correctly: NOT MY CHOICE. So we had this included in the extra charge they took the next day. Why didn't they alert us to this on car pick up day? They could have charged it then. So the reasonably priced rental ended up being double the price. Visa may well 'fight my corner' on this last charge, but I have not emailed them yet on this.
Rented a car from Firefly at Malaga airport: Never Again!
Rented a car from Firefly at Malaga airport. Upon return they alleged that the car had been damaged & pointed to a very minor scratch on the door wing mirror. This was disputed as it was hardly visible especially in the darkness of the underground car park. After further discussion I was told that the representative was no longer willing to discuss this matter further & that I would be sent a letter outlining the damage. I found this behaviour dismissive & very rude. After discussing the issue with the manager I was told that no additional amount would be taken from my credit card account without my agreement which proved not to be the case. Following a subsequent demand to pay a significant sum we requested & then belatedly received the letter with pictures of the alleged damage. This now included a very small patch where defective paint had become loose which had not been previously highlighted. After further disputing their claim Firefly finally agreed to withdraw it. I have not experienced this treatment before & unfortunately I have found it needlessly stressful. It has left me feeling the victim of an attempted scam. There is no way I would ever use Firefly at Malaga airport ever again!
Excellent, despite all previous reviews
I have recently been to Marbella for a month and prior to going I looked to get a hire car for the duration of our stay. All online comparison sites come back with Firefly being over £300 cheaper than the next quote. I read all the reviews on here and had my reservations but the price was too good to pass up. On arrival there was no queue, paperwork was quick and the only gripe I have which is the same for all the firms at Malaga is that I had to leave a €1000 euros security swipe of my card because I didn't take the additional insurance for keys, windscreen tyres etc but this wasn't taken off the card just held. I had already purchased separate insurance in the UK to cover this. I picked up an almost new Citroën c3 and was told it had one scratch on it. After reading all the reviews I took a video of the car and some really detailed photos in preparation for a potential fight when I dropped it off because other reviews talked about checks where damage was found. We set off from the airport and had no problems with the car throughout our stay.
On my return I was ready for the potential conflict should any questionable damage be identified. Got there, went in the office and was asked if I still had the original paperwork which I did, the girl behind the counter asked me how the car had been then said "thanks very much, see you next time!" That was it, no check no, no hassle, no argument just a professional courteous service. I am sure everyone has a different experience but mine was only positive! I will definitely use them again in the near future
Long delays at pick up and rude and unhelpful staff
Had to wait for over 45 minutes at Malaga airport to pick up a car. Staff were rude, very unhelpful, and seemed to take pleasure in appalling customer service. Charged 52 euros for being over 65, which was never pointed out previously. Car was actually in good condition and returning car surprisingly went smoothly.
Will never use again.
Rip of at firefly in Madrid
I rented the car very cheap but in the end it was very expensive! (Madrid Airport) They charged airport tax twice, I had to pay a flat tire (135€) which they proposed to refund - but they didnt. They charged me for a little cratch, I was not responsible for - my car was parked, another car touched it, while parking beside me. They said the insurance of the other car will refund me - but nothing happens. The didn't answer to my emails! They charged me 100€ for 5 days out of Spain - (see their own announcement: 9,08€ per day). Stay away of them!!
Bad experience renting from Firefly Alicante
I rented a car via doyouspain website for a week 23-30/9/21 from Alicante airport. I was to collect car from Firefly and when I got there was asked for paperwork. I was immediately told off for purchasing insurance in the UK and was then offered their insurance at an additional 155 euros. I said no as I already had my insurance. The employee was not very pleased and told me not to purchase insurance until I arrived in Spain in future. This was my first time renting.
The car documents were handed to me and I was advised the car had been passed inspection but to take any pictures of damage. The car park is dark with limited lighting. I reversed the car for more light and my adult children proceeded to take pictures and some video footage of the body of car. There were 6 different areas of damage. A week later I return the car immediately upon inspection the member of staff points to 2 of the areas we have pictures for. Then the staff member used a torch on hands/knees to look under the front driver side bumper and would you believe it, there is some paint damage. In addition, there is damage to the passenger front wheel rim. The video footage is all of the body of the car. Yes we were very naive!
I can assure you that no damage was caused to the car during the 7 days rental period. My family had taken 6 different pictures of damages as well as video footage but we did not check the wheel rims (which were black) nor did we go on hands/knees and check under the bumper. This has cost me an additional 270 euros on top of the 340 rental charges.
As this was my first time renting, I feel so stupid that I did not do my research before leaving the UK. I see this as a SCAM. I have been told to claim through my insurance company which I have already done. My credit card has not been charge yet but I am concerned as they had blocked 1000 euros because I did not take their insurance. I have raised this with doyouspain as they need to be accountable for what they are selling.
Please do your home work before renting a car from any company in the future.
