A very special place

I’ve been lucky enough to stay in some incredible hotels around the world, and I don’t say this lightly, Gleneagles really is incredibly special.

What sets it apart isn’t just the quality, which is exceptional across the board, it’s the sheer breadth of what they manage to deliver, and the consistency with which they deliver it. It’s genuinely rare to find a place that caters so seamlessly to such a wide mix of people, families with young children, couples, groups of friends, older guests, everyone feels equally looked after.

The range of activities and experiences is on another level. Whether it’s outdoor pursuits, golf, food, or just switching off and enjoying the setting, there’s something for everyone, and they execute it all brilliantly. Plenty of places get one or two things right, but to get this level of depth and variety, all in one setting, is incredibly unusual. To find it in Scotland, of all places, makes it even more special.

What really stands out, though, is the team. Every interaction feels genuine, considered, and professional without ever being stiff. It’s very clear that the staff are well looked after and properly trained, you can feel it in how they carry themselves and how naturally they engage with guests. That kind of culture doesn’t happen by accident.

We’re regular visitors and will absolutely be back again. I’d recommend it without hesitation, whether you’re travelling from overseas or you’re based locally, it’s one of those places that consistently delivers, and then some.

A real credit to everyone involved.

This is our third visit

This is our third visit.
We ate at the restaurant and the food was excellent - the Bee Sting pizza was stunning and the Taste of India curry very good. Waitresses couldn’t have been more pleasant and helpful.
Had vouchers to use in the shop and the staff again very helpful.
Special note for service goes to the guys in the academy who had sorted out an equipment order for me in advance of my arrival. Super advice on a new putter grip and fitting from Josh - improved results within a few holes the following day and subsequently - big thank you!

Standards at Gleneagles have fallen significantly

Standards at Gleneagles have sadly dropped significantly. I’ve been a customer for around 30+ years and love the hotel, so feel compelled to write this review.

I called the hotel on Thursday 7 November 2024 at around 750pm to make a booking for a large table in the Strathearn. I got through to a man on the front desk around 757pm to be told that the reservation team had left for the evening so no one could help me. I asked to be transferred to the Strathearn and was advised that they couldn’t help me and that I’d need to speak to Reservations on Friday.

I called back and waited around 15 minutes for my call to be answered by Reservations. No apology for the long wait. I was then told that because of the size of the party that they would need to contact the Strathearn. So the opposite of what I was told the previous day. The lady then advised me to call back, if I hadn’t heard from her by Tuesday, four days after my call, in relation to a simple restaurant booking! When I expressed surprise at the timeline, she advised me that she was going on holiday. I then asked her to copy me into the email she was sending to the Strathearn, so I could follow up on the request before she returned from holiday. Thankfully she did this, so let’s wait and see how long it takes Gleneagles to respond.

Also on Thursday 7 November I wrote to the events team to ask about what rooms were available for dinner on 7 December. I also called to speak to the events team on the morning of Friday 8 November and was told that no one in events team was available to take my call but someone would call me. At around 5pm I to called back as I hadn’t heard back from anyone. I eventually spoke to someone.

Why is service so bad these days?

Love of Gleneagles restored!

After a very disappointing experience last time, and a slow response to our complaint, the wonderful Damian and Helen took over and pulled out all the stops to ensure our stay was truly first-class. Thank you!

Hotel goes off-grid

The hotel itself was excellent. The service was a bit slow. The golf pro, David, did not even respond to the complaints we had about our round, not the behaviour of a professional representing the Gleneagles Hotel

My daughter always takes me there for…

My daughter always takes me there for my birthday. This year the decorations were absolutely beautiful, they seem to get nicer every year. We had gone straight in for some food before we checked in. I went out during that time to check in and the receptionist had commented on us being there in March. Sandy the girls name asked if it was a special occasion, I told her it had been my birthday 2 weeks ago and my daughter usually takes me there. Sandy wished me a belated happy birthday and when we went to the room she had organised a cake and a card for me. What a lovely surprise. Everything about gleneagles is exceptional I would say the staff are definitely the main attraction. We will be back soon. If I could give Sandy more than 5 stars I certainly would.

Christmas Disappointment

We went to Gleneagles Hotel for Afternoon Tea, the setting is amazing and decorations add to the magic however we all left very disappointed.

Service was slow, we were asked 4 times about dietary requirements, waiters suit was stained and bow tie frayed, mistakes were made with table setting and delivery of correct teas.
Scone, sausage rolls, chocolate bun and mushroom pie were lovely however the rest was mediocre. The tart and quiche were overwhelmed by horseradish and tarragon to the point of being inedible.
Despite having jumpers on, by the end of the first course we were getting cold, by the end it was a relief to get our coats back on.
At £59 per person I was shocked to find we had been charged for the soft drinks for the non tea drinkers and had an unexpected 12.5% service charge added to the bill.
This used to be an annual treat for our friendship group at Christmas, we will not be returning.

Good news/bad news

Spent 8 days there in early July w family. One of the most enchanting experiences ever. Superb accommodations, broad opportunities and--above all else--the most professional, genuine and helpful staff. Blows away other leading hotels. Unfortunately, my golf clubs, while delayed a day by an airline, apparently sat somewhere in the hotel and were never delivered to me despite my continuing inquiries and their promises to alert me as soon as they arrived. And now, in trying to get to the bottom of it and a refund for club rentals, etc, the superb staff has disappeared. Getting bounced around to different offices at the hotel, guest relations phone rings off the hook and disconnects and--finally--when I do reach someone--she promises to research, speak with her supervisor and send me follow up emails which never arrive. For $40K+ I would think the follow up would be better; so disappointing.

Took 5 hours to play Kings Course…

Took 5 hours to play Kings Course today, as a two ball! No etiquette, no one letting groups play through (in particular groups with caddies holding everyone up, clearly more concerned about their tip than the reputation of the ciurse) marshalling ineffective and holiday makers on the corse taking photographs in front of the green! You could not make it up, real golfers should avoid playing here unless they like slow golf with no etiquette.

Nowhere else quite like Gleneagles - A truly magical place.

My wife arranged a 4 night break for my 50th Birthday at Gleneagles in January. We arrived with already high expectations which were far surpassed in quick order! From the moment we arrived we felt the magic of this wonderful place. Every member of the team was exceptional and made us feel special. Special mentions must go to Julia (Guest relations manager) who made sure we had the perfect suite. Richard (Lobby Host) who directed us to the right places and remembers us each and every time we crossed paths during our stay. He even remembered it was my birthday and offered genuine wishes. David (In the Whisky shop) who helped me choose some wonderful drams. And a lovely young lady (Jennifer) on reception who so kindly sent out for some medications for my wife who needed tablets late one evening and ever so discreetly delivered to us in the restaurant.
What is truly magical about Gleneagles is that every single member of staff is, of course highly professional, knowledgeable and helpful but each displays their own personalities. Nothing feels scripted or false, everyone natural and sincere. This something I have never experienced at this scale before.
Needless to say the food was tremendous, wine and drinks lists inspirational and our suite absolutely beautiful. These are almost, dare I say expected at this level of hotel but it's the small details and people who make it something truly special.
Thank you everyone for making our stay so very special. We cannot wait to return.
