To speak, or not to speak...
Prima di frequentare Don't Panic English mi ero iscritta a molti altri corsi d'inglese senza successo. Erano ottimi corsi, ma interamente registrati, virtuali e teorici.
Questo è stato il primo corso che ho finito in tutta la mia vita! Ciò che per me ha fatto la differenza è stato frequentare vere classi con veri compagni e una vera insegnante. Giorgia è stata grande, non ha mai giudicato ed è sempre stata pronta a incoraggiarci e motivarci, creando un ambiente amichevole in cui gli errori erano i benvenuti e potevamo esprimerci liberamente. Questo mi ha permesso di superare ogni paura di sbagliare e parlare con altre persone. Ho iniziato a guardare film senza doppiaggio, ascoltare e ripetere podcast, leggere libri e contenuti in inglese, e divertirmi un sacco nelle videochiamate quotidiane coi miei nuovi compagni! Ho persino trovato il coraggio di parlare online con dei madrelingua inglesi, che hanno apprezzato il mio "eccellente" inglese (parole loro!) e sono diventati miei partner linguistici regolari. In pochi mesi potevo pensare e capire direttamente in inglese, senza quella fastidiosa traduzione interna in italiano! Che magnifica sensazione! Non potevo credere di riuscire a capire e rispondere in modo naturale. Nella mia mente non stavo parlando inglese: stavo semplicemente parlando!
Grazie Giorgia! E grazie a tutti i miei compagni, che hanno condiviso con me gioie e dolori del nostro cammino verso la fluenza. Ce l'abbiamo fatta!
Il corso è finito, ma non il mio viaggio. I miei compagni ed io siamo definitivamente inglese-dipendenti, e quando non possiamo parlare inglese, ci manca! Ora la vera sfida è non mollare, continuare a fare pratica e crescere. Non è mai troppo tardi per imparare questa lingua meravigliosa, che è un vero ponte verso il mondo. Don't translate, and don't panic: it's just English!

Before attending Don't Panic English I had signed up for many other English courses unsuccessfully. They were good courses, but entirely recorded, virtual and theoretical.
That was the first course I've ever finished in my whole life! What made a difference to me was attending real classes with real classmates and a real teacher. Giorgia has been great, has never been judgmental and has always been ready to encourage and motivate us, creating a friendly environment where mistakes were welcome and we could speak up freely. That has allowed me to overcome any fear of making mistakes and speaking with other people. I started to watch movies without dubbing, listen and repeat podcasts, read books and contents in English, and have a lot of fun in my everyday video calls with my new buddies! I even found the courage to speak online with English native speakers, who have appreciated my "excellent" English (their words!) and have become my regular language partners. In a few months I could think and understand directly in English, without that annoying inner translation into Italian! What a great feeling! I couldn't believe I was able to understand and answer naturally. In my mind I wasn't speaking English: I was just speaking!
Thanks Giorgia! Also, thanks to every buddy of mine, who shared joys and sorrows of our path to fluency with me. We did it!
The course is over, but my journey is not. My buddies and I are definitely English-addicted, and when we can't speak English, we miss it! Now the real challenge is not to give up, to keep practicing and growing. It's never too late to learn this wonderful language, which is a real bridge to the world. Don't translate, and don't panic: it's just English!
