Poor communication and cost increases…
Poor communication and cost increases after initial quote. Finally didn't get paid for our work and now this company is in administration, and not the first times by same company director. Yet, my concern is not just with this company but Trustpilot who somehow have amazing rating for company which went into liquidation months ago. How is it possible to have all these amazing reviews if company goes bust ? Well, it is possible if you trade for reviews and pay subscriptions with Trustpilot.
No Phone Contacts
I asked for two quotes, one for electric only, and one for gas, electric and water. I also asked to SPEAK TO SOMEONE as every time I rang, I only got through to the Receptionist. Apparently they have a "call back" system, so you leave a message and someone is supposed to ring you back. At this point in time, nobody has EVER phoned me from Utilitysmart. Not once. NEVER. I sent an email stating that they would not get my business unless somebody rang to discuss the project. They kept on sending messages about the electric connection ONLY.
After many weeks waiting, the quote arrived (CHAFO89) for electric ONLY, over double the amount that National Grid would cost me. National Grid want £2,500 to connect my electric supply - Utilitysmart want £6,250. There is no way on God's green earth that I will pay this amount for them to find an electrician to fit a meter, if that is indeed what the extra money covers.
I still have no quote for the gas connection, and have never spoken to a single person at Utilitysmart. Not one!
Now they keep sending me emails asking me to sign the contract. My response: not on your nelly.
If you cannot find anyone to actually speak to me, I can only imagine what things will be like if any problems arise.
EDIT: The MD rang me, which I was most impressed with. Some of the problems with communication have been unfortunate, as it appears I have not got one of the emails. I would like them to change their phone systems so it is possible to speak to the staff more easily.
He explained the additional expense, and I accepted that as plausible. Viz the gas, I will see if I can get my address added to the database and return to them for another quote. I have amended the number of stars for this reason as they do seem a legit company and I appreciate the time taken to speak to me about the issues.

On the whole the company organised the connection very efficiently. All the work was carried out to the highest standard using professional, courteous staff who went out of their way to keep me informed all the way through the process. The only problem we had was locating the gas main as the Plans that we both had were out of date and when the main was located, the installation and completion happened very quickly.

Waste of money and time
It is much easier to comunicate with all statutory undertakers directly rather than chasing Utility Smart for replies.
1. I am absolutely unhappy with the services as it takes me longer to chase replies than deal with the statutory undertakers myself. I requested the updated quotation from Utility Smart on 14/03/2024 with the provided picture and plan for the location of the electricity meter and received it only on 03/04/2024. It took nearly 3 weeks. Moreover, I would have to pay Utility Smart nearly the same price that was already paid. I decided to check if applying to the national grid would be cheaper and quicker. I got the quotation from them within a week. I requested the quote on 5th Apr and received the quote on 12th Apr.
2. One more reason I will never go to Utility Smart again is that the advisor on the phone cannot suggest anything when you ask a question replying only that it will depend on the Statutory Undertacker. When you call directly to the Statutory Undertaker they have all answers straight away.
3. I asked for the refund on 12/04/24 chased for reply on 15/04/24. No reply
Will not recommend or use these services ever again.
