Picked hens up from their Harrogate location on Saturday 3 Jan. I was originally down for three but took four. Given a time slot to arrive and otherwise well organised right down to somebody running the car parking. Drama-free and efficient. A couple of the hens are a bit tatty but this is to be expected of ex bats. Whilst I have ex free range now, I have had ex bats before and they are certainly no worse than they were and in fact two of the four are a lot better.

The ONLY people who were understanding and extremely helpful when we found an abandoned cockerel being attacked by foxes. Other animal rescue charities including the RSPCA did not want to know! Vets only wanted to euthanise and charge for it, and one particular vet argued stating that a cockerel/rooster or hen is a wild animal - really? That is extremely worrying! Fresh Start for Hens was a last chance phone call as we tried so many charities and people who sold poultry. We were guided and helped and these amazing people arranged to take this poor badly injured cockerel into their loving expert care, they are doing so much to help and rehabilitate poultry - something many people (including myself) have been completely ignorant about.

The fact that these people care enough to rescue poorly treated hens from death. People take them to be pets and to live out their days with room to roam and enjoy their retirement. Have got hens from them before. They do a magnificent job.

I have re-homed hens from FSFH on several occasions from the Coventry collection point.

The company does excellent work and the volunteers at the Coventry collection are absolutely wonderful ladies, who couldn't be more helpful.

Thank you FSFH so much for continuing to rescue hens who have had a traumatic life until their re-homing and thank you to the volunteers who are simply wonderful people.
