Not great!
My son is a haemophiliac and is meant to have injections subcutaneously wherever possible. I provided this information ahead of time when booking the vaccination. I also said that if the vaccine absolutely had to be given intra muscular then he would require an ice pack to limit bleeding. When he arrived for his vaccination he was told they couldn’t give it subcutaneously (although I have it on good authority that it can be given this way) and no ice pack appeared for about 30 mins. As a result he now has a large painful haematoma from bleeding into the muscle. Not very impressed.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and I’m truly sorry to hear about your son’s experience. We understand how important it is to follow the specific medical needs of every child, especially in cases like haemophilia.
Unfortunately, our nurse was unable to provide the vaccination subcutaneously, as this is not the standard method for the flu vaccine in our setting. The nurse did wait for an ice pack to be brought from the school’s medical centre before administering the vaccine.
I want to reassure you that our nurse did not administer the vaccine until the ice pack had arrived from the school’s medical centre, as per your instructions. While there was a delay in getting the ice pack, we waited for it before proceeding with the vaccination. Your son was also observed afterwards to ensure his wellbeing. Once he felt comfortable, he was allowed to return to class.
We have tried to reach out to you privately to discuss this further but haven’t heard back. If you’re open to it, we would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly to better understand your concerns and see how we can improve our service. Please do get in touch at your convenience.
