Bilateral Cataract Treatment

A standard Specsavers eye test revealed that my cataracts should be removed, and I was referred to Dr Andrew Tatham at Eye Surgery Scotland. Response was very rapid and within 3 weeks and after a very thorough and interesting consultation, I had the operation for both eyes on the same morning. I had opted for this as it is now low risk, and I am very glad to have done so; I avoided the wait for glasses for each eye separately and the period when one eye is improved and the other still in its previous state, which various friends told me is quite upsetting.
The operation was amazingly painless at all stages – yes! Totally Painless! It was a delight to be awake and seeing and feeling what was going on. The mix of fantastic technology and skill by Dr Tatham, and the smooth support team is something that still amazes me – so many generations of surgeons, pharmacologists, surgical equipment manufacturers and nurses and support staff all working at the frontiers of knowledge to make the operation fast, safe, painless and wonderfully successful. Immediately after the operation the world is uncomfortably but wondrously bright (I forgot to take the recommended dark glasses). I arrived at a little after 8 a.m., and was home by 12:30, well able to make my way through the garden (What gorgeous bright colours!) and through the front door, and move around inside and make coffee. Initially the lenses felt perfect, with clearer sight than previously with my glasses, but the follow up consultation with the excellent optometrist, Mrs Keith, revealed that a small correction would make it even better. She was absolutely right as I found when I got my varifocals 6 weeks later.
It is known to be a miracle operation, but just how miraculous is impossible to believe. Cataracts grow more opaque very slowly, and so I had no idea how bad my sight had got, nor how that was robbing me of the beauty and colour of the world around. Nor would I have believed how poor my night vision had become. Nor would I have believed that this transformation would be completely painless.

I had an emergency situation arise…

I had an emergency situation arise before my departure from Canada to Scotland and was referred to the clinic for immediate attention. The clinic responded promptly and was able to accommodate me on the day of my arrival! I was so pleased and so grateful!

The service was very prompt, thorough, and extremely professional. The office/clinic environment was spacious, clean, bright, and very inviting and the staff were friendly. It was also very convenient for public transportation. I must honestly say that this clinic "ticked all the boxes".

Thank you for your great service!!

Kim (on behalf of my husband, Paul Donovan)

The outstanding Dr Andrew Tatham…

The outstanding Dr Andrew Tatham resolved my acute eye condition with brilliant care and precision. I have had angel closure where pressures were so high I nearly lost my sight. Resulting test revealed that my eyes were extremely small which made closure possible and meant that the a double cataract procedure was required to help resolve matters. This procedure given my eye geometry carried a number of significant additional risks which caused me a great deal of anxiety.
Following consultation with Andrew I had both cataracts done within weeks. The procedure was a complete success with no complications and my condition has been resolved, in addition my vision has significantly improved. The risk of severe angel closure has gone, cataracts gone and my eye pressure are now so low that I no longer need eye drops.
Andrew is an outstanding profesional, brilliant surgeon and will take care of you from start to finish. You can have a great deal of confidence in him and be assured that he will always be in touch with you throughout particularly in aftercare and that he will support you until your condition is fully resolved.
Andrew thank you for your kind consideration and care and the constant reassurance. Above all thank you for resolving my condition and allowing me to move forward positively in terms of my future with a significant risk removed from my life. I’m looking forward to my first grand child arriving early next year confident in the fact that I will have my sight in order to enjoy the experience. That as you can imagine means everything to me. Thank you.

Recently attended the Edinburgh clinic for a cataract procedure carried out by Dr Jas Singh. Simply incredible experience and delighted with the result. Beautiful clinic comfortable and welcoming with passionate staff working tirelessly to provide a world class customer experience. Dr Singh was calming, reassuring and highly professional giving complete clarity and information during all consultations. He and his team made the operation easy and the aftercare and support was brilliant. Incredibly impressed with the whole journey my thanks to all involved.

Calm and professional.

I am originally from Scotland but I am now normally resident in Cyprus. In April of last year I suffered an unexpected Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) in my right eye. Whilst my initial treatment was here in Cyprus I returned to Scotland for Christmas to visit family and essentially found myself trapped there due to various Covid measures. I was distressingly aware of my need for ongoing treatment to my right eye in the form of Eylea injections, without receiving treatment my eye condition could have become considerably worse and could ultimately have resulted in loss of vision. Unfortunately despite having an urgent referral stating that my case was extremely serious I was finding it terribly difficult to arrange a prompt appointment within the NHS. I was facing a total nightmare.

Through serendipity I was able to find the details of Dr Das, a consultant ophthalmologist and specialist in this field, and of “Eye Surgery Scotland” at The Edinburgh Clinic , and thankfully was able to receive immediate professional first class treatment before further delays caused permanent damage to my eye. It was a huge relief to be in the professional hands of Dr Das and to be able to undergo tests and treatment using the very latest equipment and techniques. From the reception staff to the medical staff I found the attitudes to be friendly, helpful, kind, and considerate, all practiced in a calm and professional environment.

Ill health is always worrying, but eye health has the potential to be even more concerning. Dr Das is clearly an expert in her field and as such is able to explain matters in a way which brings security and confidence. You cannot put a price on health, and compared to the normal costs I pay for healthcare I believe that the schedule of fees offered by “Eye Surgery Scotland” to be fair and reasonable. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr Das and the services of the team at “Eye Services Scotland”.
