Poor instructions

Poor instructions, the owner takes no accountability for any issues , 6 months into the house we are having leaks every where possible and to top it off we now have had a grey water line bust open somewhere under the house and it’s covered by corrugated iron so it’s an absolute hassle to try n fix , personally I’d never buy again nor advise anyone to buy n waste there money personally

Update!! no there is no confusion our name is a cover name so it won’t be in your system, we have seen and heard many things about your tiny houses ( we have one !!!) remember not all reviews are positive :) the positive here is you get what you pay for we guess

Hi John,

We’re sorry to hear about your experience - though after checking our records, we couldn’t find any customer under your name or any case resembling this situation. It’s possible there’s been some confusion with another tiny home company, as we often receive mistaken reviews due to being one of New Zealand’s largest expandable tiny home brand.

If this is a legitimate concern, please reach out to Taylor at info@expanders.co.nz and we’ll be happy to look into it right away and help resolve any issues.

– The Expanders Team

Update:

We genuinely want to help but without a real name or contact details, it’s not possible for us to verify your purchase or provide any assistance. We’ve checked our records and haven’t received any communication or service requests matching this description before this review.

If you do own one of our homes, please reach out to Taylor at info@expanders.co.nz with your order details so we can look into this properly. We stand by our products and always resolve genuine customer issues promptly.

Kind regards,
The Expanders Team

I have seen more ads like this…

I have seen more ads like this repeatedly, and once again, the greedy are making significant moves by cutting deals with China, profiting from the demand. Meanwhile, people across the country are still struggling with inflated prices. And the original prices of these container houses are not even close to what you would get from the manufacturer.

My best advice is to find a reliable supplier and order the same units—20-foot and 40-foot—that are fully customizable to your design standards and compliant with AU & New Zealand regulations, all at a very very low rates.

Hi Tebikei Tiune,

We appreciate your feedback and understand the concerns around affordability and sourcing. At Expanders, we take quality and compliance very seriously, which is why we work closely with New Zealand-based architects, engineers, and compliance teams to design our homes.

While our manufacturing is based in China to keep costs down, I have personally visited 11 different factories before carefully selecting a partner that meets our strict quality and regulatory standards.

One of the biggest risks when ordering directly from overseas suppliers is quality control. Many manufacturers cut corners to lower costs, which can lead to significant issues — especially when it comes to homes, where safety and durability should never be compromised. A one-off order from China might seem cheaper upfront, but if something goes wrong, returning a house or requesting a refund is nearly impossible. We have warranties and guarantees in place to ensure our customers receive a high-quality product that meets their expectations.

Additionally, the true cost of importing a single unit from China is often overlooked. Beyond the manufacturer’s price, you need to factor in:

- Shipping (~$5,000 NZD)
- Customs fees ($7,000–$8,000 NZD)
- Local transport and delivery costs ($3,000+ NZD)

This is why many people end up paying much more than they anticipated when ordering direct. With Expanders, we handle all of this for you and offer a quality, ready-to-go product backed by local support.

We are here to make portable homes more accessible while ensuring our customers receive a safe, high-quality, and affordable solution. If you have any further questions, we’d be happy to discuss!
