BE WARNED

BE WARNED! They continue to push you to sign up for Evie mates their so called loyalty program and fail to adequately warn you that any active vouchers become void and unusable unless you cancel the Evie Mates plan. Easy done to cancel but then you MUST wait 30 days for the first month of this ‘free’ plan to end claiming you can continue to enjoy the benefits only for your potential vouchers to sit their unused and potentially expire within that time. Speaking to them is useless! They pull things out of thin air repeatedly telling me I have no form of payment on my account yet clear as day I can see my Visa Credit Card loaded but claim I’m in the wrong and that Visa is apparently not a credit card… odd, considering the Visa and Mastercard logos are presented as options and it hasn’t been an issue for the nearly 12 months. Will not be using Evie after (if) I get my voucher access back. Better services and options to use.

I am disgusted by EVIE's lack of maintenance of its chargers and inaccurate web info

I am very disappointed in EVIE. I have tried several times to use their fast EV charger in Macksville (mid north coast of NSW).
I have reported on 3 occasions since Dec. 2025 that between 1 and 4 chargers were out of service. Today I drove there (10km) to recharge. It said one CHADEMO was available (other out of service). When I arrived, another car was charging on that port BUT it was only charging very slowly. This is a 350kwh charger, but the other car was only up to 35% after 50 minutes. No point in my waiting.

Incorrectly charged payment and ignored

Had charger break down when attempting to use, thankfully had enough left to reach the next town and plugged in there. Was having similar issues with a plug there so moved to the next plug and finally it started to charge. Whilst charging someone else must’ve plugged into the first plug I attempted to use that was playing up and charged their car and it was billed to my account. I immediately rang their helpline and explained the story. They assured me it would be escalated and I would hear back from refunds. After 1 month still heard nothing. So rang again, had to explain it all again, was told again it would be escalated and once again after 1 month heard nothing. So rang a third time and same again… nothing. Contacted consumer affairs, they told me to write an email quoting sections of the act etc and give them a final demand. Which I did and they finally replied and refunded it after 2 and a half months of ignoring me. I would advise to avoid where possible, they have many faulty chargers and their customer service is pathetic as when they incorrectly take your money then ignore you and try to wait to you out until you give up or forget.

Avoid EVIE

On a EV Easter holiday drive, I attempted to charge a brand new 2025 Kia using the EVIE network. I followed all instructions, found the charging station and signed up successfully via the Evie app. However, I was unable to set up Auto-charging because my vehicle model wasn’t listed — and for some unknown reason, the station simply wouldn’t initiate charging. I suspect there was an issue with the OCPP protocol.

As patience was running out, I decided to call EVIE’s support team, and while they were helpful, it required backend intervention to get the charging session started — the support person had to trigger a REST API command manually. Despite the app not recognizing my car, we eventually managed to get a charge going.

Once charging was complete, I received a notification from the Kia app confirming the session had ended. The EVIE app also showed that my credit card had been charged. However, when I went to unplug the charger, the cable was completely stuck. I’ve completed many charging sessions before with other charging networks and have never encountered this issue before. It took hours of frustration before the connector was finally released.

While I was dealing with this, another EV driver arrived and experienced similar issues - his EV vehicle also failed to connect to nearby Evie stations. After witnessing what happened to me, the driver wisely chose not to use EVIE.

In my opinion, EVIE needs to conduct serious end-to-end user acceptance testing. Their network is unreliable, poorly integrated, and unfortunately not ready for real-world use. I do not recommend the EVIE charging network.
