Just avoid Europcar - it’s such an unpleasant and stressful experience

Collected a car from Alicante to be met with an arrogant, unhelpful assistant.
Provided with a car different from that booked, which had 18 areas of serious damage. Advised the excess would be 6000€ and any other damage that I failed to identify at pick up would definitely be billed - so helpful!
One day before return , Europcar claimed a further 8.42€ on my credit card - which I was later told was an airport supplement?!
Returned car and advised that there was no point in inspecting the vehicle as it was so damaged, but that holding deposit of 808.42 would be credited - despite contacting europcar this took a further 19 days.

Stay away from this Europcar outlet at LPA

This Europcar outlet at LPA was so bad and sneaky. I booked a car with them through Expedia at a total cost of CAD $270. At the final step I was asked to pay by credit card but the woman did not tell me the amount. I asked and the charge was over CAD$400. Their excuse was I arrived 1 hour earlier than the pick up time. I walked away from them and booked a better car at a much better price with another company. Stay away from these thieves at Europcar.

Complete hassle-free experience

Complete hassle-free experience. This was our first time and when we read the reviews... we were even more skeptical. Once the lady on the counter explained and we made the booking... it was seamless thereon. The block on deposit was removed within 12 hours of returning the car

Absolutely disgraceful customer service…

Absolutely disgraceful customer service in Tenerife. When confronted with photographic evidence that damage (which had clearly been caused weeks earlier given the weathering) was on the car when it was picked up, the customer service representative hardly glanced at it, shrugged his shoulders and said 'I can't see it'. He then said he wasn't customer service despite serving a customer, scribbled an email address on a piece of paper then looked at me as if was stupid for asking how I should pay for the damage. My conclusion is that they are being trained not just to be thoroughly unpleasant and disrespectful, but also to deliberately invent faults. This is my first ever review on Trust Pilot and I am a very calm person who was decent, reasonable and moderate throughout. In the interests of balance, the rep who gave us the car when we arrived was excellent and the car very clean and in great condition, but the fact remains we were taken advantage of in a deliberate and cynical manner.

EDIT: I got a refund. After emailing customer services with photographic evidence, they have refunded me. That is good, but it should have been sorted at the desk. Strangely, they haven't accepted they were wrong; just the 'gesture of goodwill' thing. Also odd is that if you take a video on an Apple phone, they won't accept the format despite any modern browser being able to render it, so be prepared to have to reformat it in a way that doesn't lose the metadata.

Landend safe in Barcelona!

Landend safe in Barcelona!
Picked up our rented car and got great advice from their employee named Sol at the airport in Barcelona! The service was excellent, and we had a great car that we drove for miles.🤭

So, going to Barcelona? Rent your car at EuropCar, Terminal 2.

Hidden costs and unfair charges

0 stars. Very disappointing experience with Europcar.
They charged me for 13 liters of fuel, even though the actual difference based on the dashboard indicators was clearly no more than 3 liters. I provided photo evidence taken at the moment I returned the car but they still issued an incorrect invoice.

On top of that, they added a 30 € “refueling service” fee without clearly informing me in advance and they were unable to provide any receipt to justify the fuel price of 1.74 €/liter in Cádiz, Spain :)))

This is unfair and unprofessional. There are many better car rental options available so I strongly recommend avoiding this company.

Hidden coast, not to many options on their cars, and on top of that I got a parking ticket what i paid it few days later online because nobody at the police station where I called was speaking or understanding another language, but europecars keep sanding emails to pay them even if I send the proof of the ticket being paid
I will not recommend them to nobody!

Got completely scammed by Europcar

Got completely scammed by Europcar in Charleroi, Belgium! Avoid! Rented a car that had various scratches and dents on it. I was recomended to take a video which I did. Upon return, they said I caused some of the damage. We reviewed the date/time stamped video and the local staff acknowledged it was indeed present at pick up and let me go. They then still send me an invoice for nearly 800 eur for the damage I did not cause. Customer support has been horrendous and they flatly refuse the re-review evidence or willing to accept the possibility they made a mistake. Tehy continue to pursue me with invoices and emails for something I did not do. Absolutely terrible. be very careful when you rent here.

A bitter aftertaste to our trip.

My partner and I rented a car from Europcar at Santander Airport last summer. About a week after our trip, a large amount was withdrawn from my bank account without any email or message to inform me. There was also no mention of this on my invoice, as we had paid everything in advance.

After contacting the Spanish customer service, who described the action as a “technical error,” the original invoice was deleted and replaced with a new, more expensive one.

In the months that followed, we remained in contact with the Belgian customer service. Their explanation changed several times. After a long time, they admitted that the mistake was due to their administration. They informed us that the amount had been refunded, but this never happened.

My emails are now barely being answered, and when my partner called customer service again, the call was abruptly ended.

In summary: an unexpected withdrawal, contradictory communication, and a refund that was never actually made for a mistake Europcar itself admitted to. A bitter aftertaste to our trip.

If I could give no star I would

If I could give no star I would, picked up and very badly damaged car from the Palma De Mallorca airport, was told to send a email with any damages that wasn't listed ( the list was so big ). Send this within 2 hours. And they are saying it was damaged even though we sent them a big long list of everything that was wrong with the car. After sending endless emails and proof of this, they have still took money from my credit card. Do not touch this company. They will make you pay for damages that are already on the car. I'm now going to speak to solicitor about this. I'm not leaving them get away with it

Asking for extra money but not invoicing customers

We rent a car from Europcar Mallorca, everything was good from experience perspective with car and rental process until we got a parking fine. They said once they receive the fee from government, they will let us know. And we got the fee from Europcar to pay through a website link, we paid the fee + administrative cost and we got reply from Europcar that all payments are done and nothing need to be settle anymore. 1 month later, we received an email with excel line states we still need to pay 40 euro administrative cost to them with IBAN details. They said, they couldnt charge this money from the credit card we gave to them earlier. We asked multiple times invoice for this service but nothing.... Then we got threated by them to be on black list for future both national and international rentals from Europcar and our case will be handled to their attorney. I asked them to send me an invoice then we will pay for it, but nothing... To not complicated, I paid the invoice of 40 euro (yes for 40 Euro, Europcar put us on black list), they still didnt send me an invoice, now I'll file a formal complaint to Spanish customer Authority to inform them that Europcar is charging fee from customers but not creating invoice and not following the Spanish tax law requirements. NEVER again Europcar.

TO AVOID!

TO AVOID!
Europcar Girona Airport lied to me and sold me a premium insurance that was more expensive than the actual rental. They insisted verbally that this amount was only a deposit that would be released later. But a week later, I received the invoice!
I negotiated several times and even threatened with legal action, but they remain extremely rude and show no sense of responsibility whatsoever.

Avoid! They have "NCIS" agents looking for damages on the cars

Avoid! Unfair damage claim and very bad experience at check in. Though I managed to register online for the check in, I had to go thru the complete process at the counter. The two ladies at the check in were not nice, and though I speak English and Spanish, the lady called Alma insisted to speak to me in French. Upon returning the car after three days and only 130 kilometers, the lady at the drop off scrutinized the car like she was working for "NCIS", and found a small scratch of 6 centimeters and charged EURO 140. I complained to Europcar Spain who said that they would not levy the charge. I have been renting from Europcar for the last 20 years. I will definitely avoid next time. Best rental car company in Tenerife is CICAR.

They will scam you

A trip to mallorca was supposed to be nice and comforting with the car that you had prebooked. It is not with Europcar. I don't understand why I fill in information online to then be registered from the very beginning when we arrived at the airport. Just that took more than 10mins. Then you have to walk out and across the airport to find the platform where Europcar is. Go in and get keys, find out your baby seat is not even installed yet, figure out where I can get my child seat. Go further away to pick it up, go back and take pictures of the car, pack and install car seat. Completely not a service to the customer. I will say, the VW touran I drove was completely fine. Just until I delivered the car back, with even more waiting and process that took forever. And then apparently there were a few scratches on the bonnet of the car. You could really not see the scratches, unless you stuck your face right onto the bonnet with a flashlight. And in the garage you are, it's very dark with poor spotlights glaring. So you can't see anything. I think it's a scam directly, because I drove the car and that's it. Nothing in my time came in contact with the bonnet. Will never use Europcar again.

Hideous Experience

Absolutely hideous experience with Europcar.
Firstly being forced to wait for over an hour at the airport (we also have a 1 year old so I was getting quite anxious at the wait) but this was not by any means the worst of it.
Realized that the reason why they were taking so long was the up selling of supposedly upgraded cars and then insurance which was the same price as the car itself!
I went for a bigger car as we did have a bike box so was happy with that even though I paid an extra 179€ !
Anyway apparently their card machine was down when I tried to pay the 500€ deposit (yes €500 deposit!!) so I couldn't pay it but they took my card details to take the payment at a later date.
When such payment gets rejected I phone my bank and they told me it's the fault of Europcar.
I send Europcar the email from my bank informing them it's a problem at their end
Then I get an email back threatening to report me to the authorities!
I then read other reviews about them and it's the same story.
Not what you want on holiday.
I usually go to the Canaries and use Auto Reisen who are amazing.
Will be returning this car to Europcar early and not paying them any further money.
Watch out. Do not use.

Mistake #1 booked Eurocar

Mistake #1 booked Eurocar. The car was ok, reasonably priced, but all scratched and dinged up… over a dozen different areas… They require you to do your own inspection and to call to ensure that they have catalogued all the issues. So, I took a video of the whole car. When we returned it, the inspector made a bee line for a spot that can only be seen from about 6 inches from the ground, my video was blurry and didn’t clearly capture this spot, the guy says sign here, I say ‘no, it says “one new damage”, I don’t agree’… he leads me to believe that if I sign they will fix everything and the office, just show them the video (mistake#2 I signed). The office guy says that charging customers for dings is a revenue stream for them… at least he was honest… DONT USE EUROCAR.

Full payment - no car

I arrived on time to pick up my car in Alicante. The office was closed due to weather. I called and was told it was not possible to get the car. The lady I talked with said she had cancelled the booking, and that I would get a refund, and that she would send an email confirmation for this. I rented a car at another company. As I did not get any email confirmation, I called again the day after and talked with a different lady. She said it was not cancelled and that she could not help me at all. I wrote to customer service. Now 4 days later they have not replied. The full amount is drawn from my account. Very frustrating experience, and it is not over yet.

Charging for fuel

We gave back a seat panda in Sevilla with full deposit and they mentioned that our car is missing almost half of it, 5/8 to charge 20 euros extra. As we gave the keys at night, we could not have a word with them about it. Avoid this company if possible. Very bad experience

Europcar Can’t be Trusted

When we collected the car the counter agent indicated we need to check the car carefully as they don't accept post collection videos or pictures
The person at vehicle collection was visibly irritated and annoyed that we wanted to check the car carefully
She was rushing, ineffective and wanting to get back to whatever she was doing In her rush she was also indicating if there is one damage on a body part there is no need to check for others
On returning the car the super diligent and friendly drop off checker indicated there was a less than 5 cm scratch under the car front fender But as there were other preexisting scratches there should be no charge but we needed to pass by the terminal office to close off the contract.
Herr the lady took a long time and only to inform us that we needed to pay €194 !!!
Other than being delayed for our flight It seems they're running some type of scam for people who don't take out extra insurance cover
This doesn't happen at other companies or other Europcar offices
DONT TRUST Europcar T4 Barajas
