Difficult root extraction

I attended Edinburgh Dental last week to have a surgical root extraction, that my own dentist couldn’t remove. All staff from reception to dental nurse and especially Dr Kelsey Shortiss were excellent at their job. Thank you so much for your care. Would not hesitate to recommend your practice!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience Lilian.

We're so pleased we were able to help with your surgical extraction, particularly when it was a bit more complex. Cases like these require a calm, experienced approach, so it's lovely to hear that you felt well looked after by Kelsey and the entire team.

Your kind words about our reception and nursing staff mean a lot too as providing supportive care from start to finish is something we take great pride in.

Thanks again for your wonderful recommendation and for placing your trust in us, we truly appreciate it.

From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and at ease. The staff was incredibly friendly and professional, making the entire process smooth and stress-free.

What truly stood out was the level of attention and communication. The dentist took the time to explain every step of the procedure, answered all my questions patiently, and ensured I was comfortable throughout. I never felt rushed, and their genuine concern for my well-being was evident.
The treatment itself was painless and efficient, and the results exceeded my expectations. They even provided helpful tips for maintaining oral health, which I really appreciated. It’s rare to find a practice that combines expertise with such a warm, caring approach.
I highly recommend this dental practice to anyone looking for exceptional service and a team that truly cares about their patients!

Wisdom tooth removal

I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed by Dr Kelsey Shortiss, and I am very happy with the whole process. From the initial consultation through to the procedural date, Dr Shortiss explained everything thoroughly and I would highly recommend anyone with a dental issue to attend Edinburgh Dental.

Incorrect assessment, lost a tooth prematurely

I went to this dentist (the general dentist) with NO PAIN, just a check-up. I got told I needed replacement filling as soon as possible (they later denied expressing the urgency) despite me saying I did not have the funds right now and jaw tension. They physically pointed to a dark spot on the X-Ray saying that was the problem… turns out this was b.s.

The new filling felt bad straight away, I went back twice. I said something was wrong and they insisting the filling was too high and basically made it totally concave. Food kept getting stuck in. At this point I didn't trust their expertise and got 2 second opinions from dentists who said the X rays were very poor quality and the dark spot was a normal impression of a molar. They would not have interfered at this stage. Moreover, the new dentist knew within 5 seconds (using a small test) that something was really wrong.

Long story short, I had to have the tooth extracted. There was big crack which according to my dentist was only a few months old (same time as filling was replaced - hmmm). Something the dentist at E. Dental said wasn’t proof of anything they did.

After a written complaint to them requesting they pay for the damage done (just to cover the new bill), I did not even ask for compensation for losing my tooth. I got a letter in return basically saying "sorry you feel that way but here is a list of all the things we did great". They gave me a refund "because they don’t like unhappy patients". However, this was only part of what it cost me.
It still cost me more than 350 and many months of severe pain and not being able to chew.

It wasn't the perfect tooth - I am in my fourties after all - BUT backed my second opinions I believe that I lost this tooth prematurely.

Legally, I cannot prove anything – it’s their word against mine and all the problems could theoretically been caused by something else. And the damage is done now. All I can say is that I believe this dentist does not have the experience to deal with complex issues and make a balanced assessment, nor the skills to listen to their patient. I believe their equipment is not up to standard (there is better out there). So, no, I would not recommend as a general dentist.
