Really mixed experience

Really mixed experience. We first learnt about Eco Flooring at the Grand Designs show in late 2021, then we had the flooring installed in March 2022.

The flooring is lovely and we really like the look, but the experience has been rather mixed. Arranging installation was done in very friendly way and very accomodating as we had other works going on and some delays with contractors.

We were told that underboarding would be required and this would be extra but provided at cost, with the installers going to source this when they arrived at site. Installation took place over a couple of days, but unfortunately seems to have been rather rushed (a flooring restorers view) due to a fitter needing to attend a funeral. There are a large number of gaps between the boards that now need to be filled. Considering the floor definitely 'settles' for weeks after install I'm slightly surprised a repeat visit isn't performed later after install to remediate. At the end of the install we paid the installer directly and were told the boarding was an extra £900 which definitely isn't 'cost' and we regret not asking for a supporting receipt. There were some marked/dark pieces of wood that really should have been discarded or installed to the sides ready to go under the kitchen units rather than installed in the visible area of the middle of the floor. I highlighted 2 of these and they were replaced very grudgingly by the installer who was very keen to just get away, didn't remove the rubbish and offcuts that which were just left in our garden. There was also some unpleasantness around the leftover wood - we had paid for 38 sqm (to include 20% wastage) and at the end the installer insisted that the residual wood bundles were not ours and would be removed (we thought we would keep some for future repairs if needed). Some phone calls were required, they were removed and at the end of it all I'm still not sure what the situation was or whether it was just mixed communications.

Due to other works going on and wanting to match up looks I've enquired on what treatment was applied to the wood and yet to receive a response several weeks later.

Summary is - it looks good but really requires some post install correction, the install left me feeling on edge and after sales seems disjointed. I feel a bit torn about it all, which is a shame as had really good feelings from the first interaction and the installation scheduling etc, let down after that.

Amazing company, highly recommend

We have had a great experience using Eco Flooring UK. From my first contact with them they have been friendly and helpful and it has felt like nothing is too much trouble. The guys who came to fit the floors were punctual and efficient and the floors look absolutely stunning. In the midst of a stressful renovation, this company has been a breath of fresh air. Excellent product and customer service, I am so happy we used them and highly recommend.

Look No Further

Amazing reliable company to deal with from start to finish. So in love with our beautiful reclaimed chevron oak floors. They have added so much character and class to our rooms. The whole team really know their stuff about flooring. Proper craftmsmen that want to do a good job. Cannot recommend them enough. They have made a fussy customer very happy!

We bought about 70m sq of reclaimed oak…

We bought about 70m sq of reclaimed oak for a chevron floor. The wood turned up and about a 1/3 of it was unusable - cupped so that it wouldn't lay properly. We then had a ridiculous amount of to-ing and fro-ing trying with them to get it sorted when variously the head guy (it's a small family business apparently) refused to take our calls because he was ''in the workshop'' - all day, every day, for weeks apparently! Eventually our (hugely experienced) floor layer had to speak to an intermediary who knew the firm whose call the owner would take, and reluctantly agreed that some of the wood may have been cupped. (Up till then he was apparently refusing to accept that there was anything wrong with it, or speak to our floor layer.) Eventually, they agreed to supply some additional wood - having initially said they didn't have any more. But even then we had to pay for it - albeit with a discount. (Again there was lots of to-ing and fro-ing about the fact that they couldn't - or wouldn't - cut the wood to match the same size as the previous order.) To be fair, we had been recommended them by friends who had been happy with the wood they'd received. But our experience was never again. Sadly, having spent a lot on the house it is largely ruined by the floor across our living room that still doesn't look very good - with large gaps because the wood was not cut evenly or to the same sizes etc.
