Amazing Experience with Eco-Africa Climbing!

I booked my entire Tanzania vacation with the locally owned company Eco-Africa Climbing, and it was the best decision I could have made. Every part of the trip was extremely well organized and exceeded my expectations.

For my Kilimanjaro climb, I chose the Rongai Route. My guide, John, was highly professional, knowledgeable, and supportive the entire way. The whole mountain crew was incredible — friendly, attentive, and always ready to help. I felt safe, motivated, and well taken care of throughout the climb.

After the mountain, I went on a two-day safari with Josephat as my driver and guide. He was amazing — very experienced, patient, and full of interesting information about wildlife and the parks. We saw so many animals, and it truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

On my last day, I enjoyed a bike trip with Onesmo and Awadhi. They made the tour fun, relaxed, and a perfect way to wrap up my adventure.

I highly recommend Eco-Africa Climbing to anyone visiting Tanzania. They support the local community, provide excellent service, and deliver unforgettable memories.

My friends and I had a truly incredible…

My friends and I had a truly incredible experience climbing the beautiful Mount Kilimanjaro with Eco Africa Climbing. I feel incredibly lucky to have had their team look after us for the entirety of our time in Kilimanjaro. We really did feel in very safe hands from the moment we landed at Kilimanjaro Airport. The communication with Frederick from when we booked the trip, all the way through to the conclusion of our time in Kilimanjaro, made the whole experience seamless and minimised any worries or concerns we may have had.

Our wonderful guide, John, collected us from the airport and dropped us off at our hotel. We had three wonderful guides looking after us for the whole trip; John, Jackie and Babusha. They checked to make sure we had all the appropriate gear and offered any rentals we may need. We had a total of 19 amazing porters on our team. They really are the kindest, most considerate and hard-working people I have had the honour of meeting. Nothing was too much trouble. They had such a big team looking after just five of us embarking on the hike.

Nothing was spared and they really went above and beyond. All we had to worry about was putting one foot in front of the other and keep going. They carried most of our gear. We only had to carry our daypacks. They set up our lovely tents and the rest of the camp. Chef cooked us the most delicious hot meals three times a day, every day. I honestly don't know how he did it! The lovely Emmanuel served us all of our meals in the mess tent, woke us up every morning with a coffee in our tent, brought us hot water to wash every morning and evening. They did a medical check on us every morning and evening, which gave us all peace of mind.

They thought of every detail, with Thomas taking the time and care to clean our boots when we got to camp, greeting us with refreshing tropical juice. Despite their tough working, they were all so friendly, kind and patient with us. They shared their knowledge about the local wildlife and zones of the mountain we were in. The brilliant DJ John kept us going with vast array of tunes.

Undoubtedly, I would not have made it to Stella Point if I did not have this incredible team. Their phenomenal encouragement and guidance got me to the peak. And I am so delighted we made it. It was a truly magical experience and I feel so fortunate to have reached the Roof of Africa with this wonderful team.

Climbing Kilimanjaro was a true once-in-a-lifetime experience. It can be overwhelming to choose which company to go with as there appears to be so much online. I would have no hesitation in recommending Eco Africa Climbing. Firstly, they are a KPAP-registered company, meaning they treat their porters fairly. This was one of my major concerns when researching companies. They are actually based in Moshi, and not a big international company. When speaking with many of the different members of the team, they all had only positive things to say about their company and were very proud to be members of Eco Africa. They were very transparent about everything.

Choose Eco Africa Climbing if you want to have a truly incredible experience in Kilimanjaro and support the local hard-working people who will go the extra mile for you.

We just finished a fantastic…

We just finished a fantastic Kilimanjaro trek with Eco Africa. We did the Lemosho 8 day route, and with the help of the amazing team, and our guides Onesmo and John, we both successfully summited. Eco Africa was incredibly easy to deal with from the beginning, with Fredrick being clear and consistent to communicate with. As for the team on the mountain, we are so grateful for all their help, their smiles, positive attitude and strength (literally, carrying 20kg of stuff each) day after day. They felt like a family and this helped us push through. David, the chef, did an amazing job catering for us being vegan and we were blown away by the food! Pizza, pancakes, pasta, porridge, salads, fresh fruit, amongst so many other things. The food was nutritious and there was always plenty so we were always full. Special mention also to Emanuel, our waiter, and Junie who helped us on the summit night. Another bonus was they set up a portable toilet and tent at each camp site which was great. I would highly recommend this company!

Warm-Hearted Team and Great Memories with Eco Africa – Kilimanjaro and Safari

Choosing Eco Africa Climbing and Safari was really the best decision for our trip to Tanzania. From the very beginning, we felt warmly welcomed, perfectly looked after, and supported by a professional and very kind team.

We are from Switzerland and had an absolutely unforgettable experience. We climbed Kilimanjaro via the Northern Circuit in 8 days, and everything was perfectly organized and adjusted to our needs. A huge thank you to our amazing guides Onesmo and John, our cook David, and the strong and always smiling porters – Vincent, Emanuel, Thomas, Jonas, Philemon, Okini, Davis, Mussa, Richard, Ramadan, Thorsten – you made this adventure possible! The food on the mountain was outstanding, especially considering the altitude and circumstances. We had requested a fully vegan menu, and David managed to create delicious, varied, and nutritious meals every day – it was fantastic.

After the climb, we went on a 4-day safari through Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Lake Manyara. It was another highlight, and we saw an incredible variety of animals. Our safari guide and driver Joseph was knowledgeable, attentive, and very committed. When we had a problem with the car, he immediately organized that we could continue the day with another group, and by the next morning the vehicle was already repaired. It was all taken care of in such a good way that we always felt comfortable and in good hands.

We can wholeheartedly recommend Eco Africa Climbing and Safari to everyone – not only for their excellent service and warm-hearted team, but also to support a truly local Tanzanian company.

Can’t recommend Eco enough!!

I cannot recommend eco Africa enough!!!We did the 7 day Lemosho climb and Tarangire safari day trip — both went incredibly smoothly thanks entirely to eco Africa. From the minute we landed at the airport til we flew out, they ensured we were able to do everything we wanted to within a tight schedule and that we felt safe & comfortable while doing so — they transported us to and from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to our hike and safari. They were easy to contact ahead of time & during the trip.

On the hike: hands down one of my favorite experiences ever. The climb itself was incredible — fantastic views ranging from the rainforest zone all the way to the arctic zone on the summit and effortful but very doable & rewarding hikes.

That said, it was really our Eco-Africa team that made the experience so remarkable. We had four FANTASTIC guides (Onesmo, Everlyne, John, and Vincent), a chef (the meals were consistently astonishingly good in addition to being great fuel for the hikes), + ~ 25 porters that carried our things + stuff for the camps in addition to fulfilling other roles (e.g. bringing hot tea to our tents each morning, providing support especially on summit night).

The attention to detail was unmatched— the guides checked over our gear at the hotel before starting, checked our blood oxygen level and altitude symptoms every morning and night, thought through the best meals and snacks for the trek, checked our daypacks to make sure they weren’t too heavy, told us how much water to drink, etc etc.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the camps — in addition to our personal tents, the team set up two bathroom tents and a dining tent at each site. The food was somehow delicious all the way up the mountain, with fresh fruit, protein, carbs, etc served hot and well seasoned.

What really made all the difference, though, was the way the team made us feel like we were part of a community— in addition to being skilled & knowledgeable, their kindness and energy went above and beyond.
I can easily imagine how hiking Kilimanjaro could get stressful and overwhelming, particularly as it gets closer to the summit, but the team’s support, smiles, and inclusivity made even the most strenuous parts feel super manageable and made the experience on the whole enjoyable & nearly stress-free.
To give just one of many examples — one of the people in my group accidentally broke his sunglasses a couple of days in and Onsemo immediately offered up an extra pair that he had. As another example, when I got mild nausea from the altitude, John and Everlyne alternated carrying my daypack.
I could give tons more examples, but suffice it to say that I can’t imagine a way the team could have done more to make us feel safe and comfortable.
(Also, as a side note, Eco Africa is a KPAP member which was important to us for helping ensure that the porters are safe and fairly compensated. Multiple companies are members, but not all)

On the safari: Again, wildly exceeded expectations. Eco picked us up from our hotel, timing it so that we’d get to have as full of a day as possible while still getting us to the airport at the perfect time that evening.

Living, our driver and guide, was awesome— very friendly and knowledgeable. He answered all our (many) qs about the animals (plus our more general qs about the cities and areas that we drove through on the way to the park).

We were able to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and even lions (!!), plus various birds and smaller animals (all of which Living was very impressive at finding, identifying, and sharing facts about).

All in all, this was a once in a lifetime trip and I can’t imagine a group doing a better job with it than eco !!

Kilimanjaro Climb

Kilimanjaro Climb
The Kilimanjaro portion of our trip was nothing short of magical. As a locally owned and operated company (with no international middlemen), EcoAfrica delivered an authentic, culturally immersive experience that many other tour operators simply cannot match.

Guides & Staff
Our guides Onesmo, Gewah, and John were extraordinary. While other groups rushed past beautiful scenery, our guides took time to teach us Swahili, identify native plants, and point out wildlife including giraffes, various monkey species, springbok, and countless birds. Their flexibility allowed us to savor each moment and capture photos without feeling rushed, all while keeping our safety as their top priority.

The porters (or "Kilifighters" as they're known) transformed our trek into a familial experience. This incredible team included Alfonz, Magdalena, Jonas, Philipo, Ernest, Okinyi, Peter, Thomas, Richard, Faustine, Emanuel, Gewah, Vincent, David, Musah, Edward, Filamon, John (Walker), and Latifa. They went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, singing beautiful traditional songs that echoed through the mountain trails.

Special recognition must go to our chef Magician Mathew and his assistant Emmanuel, who created culinary miracles at high altitude. On summit day, we were especially grateful for the support of John Walker and Ernest, whose encouragement helped us reach the top.

What impressed me most was that there was never an "us vs. them" mentality—we truly became one unified group experiencing the mountain together.

It's worth noting that EcoAfrica is a proud member of KPAP (Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project), demonstrating their commitment to ethical treatment of their staff.

Environmental Commitment
One of my most meaningful experiences on the mountain came at Shira II Camp, where our guides organized an impromptu trash cleanup initiative. Together with our team, we collected an astounding 18kg of garbage left behind by previous climbers. One of our dedicated porters then carried this waste off the mountain for proper disposal. This wasn't just a photo opportunity but a genuine commitment to preservation that truly showed EcoAfrica living up to their name. Their push for sustainability and respect for this natural wonder sets them apart from many other operators on the mountain.

Cuisine
The food deserves special mention—it was unquestionably the best mountain food I've ever experienced. Magician Mathew lived up to his name, conjuring up generous portions of traditional Tanzanian cuisine, prepared with care at high altitude. Despite bringing plenty of snacks, we rarely needed them as the meals were so plentiful and satisfying. In fact, we only managed to finish all the food served once during the entire trek!

Throughout our climb, we passed many other groups and camps, and I can honestly say I never once wished we were with another company. In fact, hikers from other groups frequently approached us to ask which company we were with, as our joy and camaraderie were evident to all.

Safari Experience
Our 5-day safari in the Serengeti, Ndutu and Ngorongoro was equally impressive. Our guide Josephat was encyclopedic in his knowledge of the ecosystem—from large mammals to birds, insects, and plants. We literally could not stump this man with our endless questions. His expertise took us to places other drivers wouldn't venture, resulting in extraordinary wildlife encounters.

The highlight was witnessing a cheetah kill just three minutes from our accommodation one morning! We successfully spotted the "Big 5" and countless other species - 89 different animals to be exact! The Land Cruiser provided was perfect for our group of five, with a pop-top design that allowed for excellent photography opportunities.

The accommodations arranged by EcoAfrica enhanced our connection to the landscape. The luxurious tents were spacious and comfortable while immersing us in the sounds of the Serengeti—from distant lion roars to zebras grazing just a few hundred feet away. The sunrises and sunsets viewed from our camp were absolutely breathtaking.

Conclusion
If you're considering a Kilimanjaro climb or Tanzanian safari, I cannot recommend EcoAfrica strongly enough. Their locally-owned operation, led by Fredrick, provides cultural authenticity, exceptional guides, ethical treatment of staff, and attention to detail that made this the experience of a lifetime. From the moment we booked until our reluctant departure, EcoAfrica transformed what could have been simply a vacation into a profound, life-changing journey.

Kwa shukrani nyingi (With much gratitude),

Justin

8 day Lemoshoo and 5 day Serengeti

We (5 friends and family) climbed Kilimanjaro and went on Serengeti safari with Eco-Africa. The service and experience exceeded expectations and has shifted my opinions of guides forever. Not all guides are created equal. Use a KPAP only guide to climb. KPAP ensures the porters are well paid and have enough food and accomodations on the mtn. Eco-Africa is head and shoulders above the other guides. We got 3 hot meals a day, AM coffee and hot water for washing and a hot towel when we come into camp. From the moment we landed at the airport to when they dropped us off at the airport at 0500 they were with us every step of the way. Top 5 musts: 1. Call Eco-Africa, 2. Donate all you climbing gear to the guides, 3. Tip big, 4. Learn some Swahili before you go, 5. Hakuna Matada.

Excellent Company Doing Things Differently!

We chose Eco Africa to climb Kilimanjaro and were incredibly pleased with the experience!

The company is a family business and you are absolutely welcomed into the family from the start.

We took the Northern Circuit to climb Kilimanjaro, which we would highly recommend. It was quieter than other routes and gave you panoramic views of the mountain.

Our guides Gewa and Onesmo were fantastic. They were knowledgable, supportive and made the climb very enjoyable!

The food was delicious and the Eco Africa team went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable.

Eco Africa has a particular focus on ethical tourism, treating their staff well and making efforts to be sustainable. This really sets them apart from other tour companies.

We cannot recommend Eco Africa enough for a Kilimanjaro climb!

Amazing company that exceeded all expectation

If you're looking at this review then there is a fair chance you're considering a climb or safari with Eco. In short, if we could have given 7 starts we would have.

Who are we?
We were team AUG (Instagram page). Prior to booking this trip we had never heard of Eco-Africa.

Our criteria for booking a company to climb Kili, was for the company to be a KPAP member and a local business from Tanzania. The rest of it was dates that lined up and professional communication.

We arranged everything with Frederick online, paid the deposit, flew into Tanzania and from that moment on we were treated like rock stars. The whole team, 2 guides, chef and 10 porters were enthusiastic, fun, approachable, fit and keen to make us feel welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. The porters are not just porters, they all have their own specific jobs including Matthew our "waiter' who woke us each morning with hot coffee and was a smiling face at every meal.

Each day we were given a briefing and had a health check completed. Both morning and again every evening.
Prior to leaving camp each morning we knew what to expect and how the day would go.

The food was next level, silver plater service, incredibly tasty and plenty of it.

On summit day, one of us suffered some nausa from the altitude and upon reaching the summit, chose to descend quickly. Eco-Africa sends 2 guides plus an additional experienced porter to the summit so there is flexibility for 2 to assist with the descent, leaving 1 to come down slowly with the remaining client. We saw a few companies with 1 guide and 1 climber struggling to descend quickly as there was no additional support.

Following the end of the climb were taken back to town to shower before being collected for a ceremony back at the office. There was a table on he lawn where we celebrated, enjoyed a last meal together and presented the tips to each member of the team. Some companies do a quick hand over of tips in the carpark with no chance to say thanks and finish on a good note.

A long review but to finish up, Thankyou Eco-Africa and for anyone looking for a great local company, these guys hit the mark on every occasion.

A wonderful trekking and safari on the Kilimangiaro

/* Italian */

/* English */
A great emotion, the one I experienced on June 15th at 6:12 in the morning, when I reached Uhuru Peak, the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Five days of ascent, to reach those 5895m, done every now and then with the doubt of not being able to make it, of being overcome by altitude sickness. But, pole pole (slowly in Swahili) we arrived to enjoy the dawn of a new day and, why not, of a new me.
All of this would not have been possible without the fantastic Eco Africa Climbing Team. A group of guys who made us feel part of a family from day one, people always available to help with any difficulty or need. Throughout the trek they spoiled us with abundant and always different meals, which was certainly not easy for them from a logistical point of view. Every time we reached the camp they were ready to wait for us with hot tea and the tent ready, even when the weather conditions were not the most favourable. They always supported us morally with songs and dances and this too certainly helped us achieve our goal. Each of them deserves a big THANK YOU, with the hope of being able to meet them again in the future for a new adventure.
Thanks also go to Fredrick for all the availability shown in supporting us with the transfers and for having changed the Safari program at the last moment to allow us to take our return flight, without giving up anything of our adventure.

Amazing - trip of a lifetime!!!

Our trip with Eco Africa was absolutely amazing. We completed the Kilimanjaro climb via the 7-day Machame route, followed by 4 days of Safari at Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park.

Eco Africa took care of EVERYTHING for us, absolutely seamlessly. This included transit from airport to hotel, pre-trek briefing, getting to the mountain, all aspects of trekking Kilimanjaro (including 3 meals of AMAZING food daily with various dietary restrictions), transition from mountain back to civilization, and every aspect of the safari.

Kilimanjaro Trek: we could not have been asked for better guides, chefs, and Kili Fighters. They were all so knowledgable, experienced, cooperative, and motivational. We would not have been able to peak Kili without their amazing support.

Safari: our safari guide, trainee guide, vehicle, and accommodations were all second-to-none. We were so impressed with the knowledge and experience of our safari guide who found us the Big 5 throughout our trip in addition to HUNDREDS of other animals. He was so passionate and knowledgable about the animals (not to mention the parks and local customs). He seamlessly got us to and from each park, got us fed each day, and got us to our nightly accommodations which were spectacular.

Eco Africa gave us the trip of a lifetime, and we truly could not have asked for a better company to help us see all of the beauty Tanzania has to offer.

Experience of a Lifetime- Truly Unforgettable!

Eco-Africa Climbing welcomed me to Tanzania like family and created many unforgettable moments for me on Kilimanjaro, Safari, Making coffee with the Chaga tribe, visiting with the Maasai Tribe and swimming in the most beautiful Hot Springs.

My experience on the mountain was truly remarkable due to my amazing Guide Alex and incredible team of check and porters. Everyday my team woke me up with hot tea and water to wash the most amazing breakfast you could imagine and c lear plan for the hiking, elevation changes and oxygen check. Safari experience with Eco-Africa that exceeded expectations

After the trek of a lifetime successfully summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro with the Eco-Africa company, we proceeded starting the next day with a 2 day all-expenses included safari first to Tarangire National Park and then to Ngorongoro Crater, also led by Eco-Africa. This was my first ever safari and although it wasn't expected, it was every bit as memorable to me as our climbing trip. The afternoon of our return from Kilimanjaro, at the Eco-Africa headquarters, Fredrick, the proprietor of Eco-Africa, and Josephat our guide queried us about when we wanted to leave for safari the next morning, patiently explaining that it was up to us but that if we wanted fully to benefit from the experience, they recommended that we leave at 4:00am the next morning to maximize our daylight time at our first destination, Tarangire National Park, which was over a 3 hour drive from Moshi. We wholeheartedly took their recommendation, and we were very glad that we did. We arrived at the park not long after sunrise and had a full educational day of amazing sight-seeing of large and small animals. The knowledge of the flora and fauna and local geography of Josephat was inexhaustible, but in addition he pointed out pictures and other information about particular species in excellent guidebooks that were at our disposal in our typical adapted Land Cruiser safari vehicle, the perfect vehicle for the experience. Earlier we had stopped in Arusha on the way to get morning coffee, and Fredrick had arranged to pick up our lunch and we enjoyed it picnic-style in the open air in the park, but with so many good dishes it was one of the best meals I had during the entire trip. At Tarangire we saw many elephants, giraffes, wildebeest, zebra, a pride of 3 female lions, a leopard, 2 pairs of cheetahs, a rock python, waterbucks, dik-diks, buffalo, vervet monkeys and more. The lodge the drove us to and that we stayed in that night was comfortable, very spacious and stylishly decorated in a very pleasing, artistic African style, and the dinner and breakfast we had there were also excellent and satisfying. Ngorongoro Crater the next day was a very different but just as rewarding experience, and to round out our successful sightings of the "big five", (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo being the 4 of the 5 we had seen at Tarangire) by spotting an elusive rhino, but we also saw ostrich, hyenas, and many hippos in a hippo pool, as well as many more bird species, including the heaviest bird capable of flight, the Kori Bustard.
During our daytime safari experience, we also had the company of Hussein, who helped with navigation, spotting animals, and overall, as well as Fredrick who also came along and both of them were very enjoyable to be with and contributed to the success of our experience in many ways,
I would highly recommend a safari with Eco-Africa, and in fact I will return one day to have them take me to the Serengeti.

7 day Lemosho Trek with Eco-Africa

If you are looking to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro I definitely recommend climbing with Eco-Africa. Kili had always been on my bucket list and Eco-Africa helped make that dream come true. We chose to do the 7-day Lemosho Trek and the experience truly exceeded expectations. From the time we arrived in Moshi until the day we left Eco-Africa made sure we were taken care of, even showing us around Moshi and eating at local spots. On the trek, the guides, chef & porters were all fantastic. Every meal was delicious (you will not be left hungry) and the chef even surprised my buddy with a cake on his birthday. Overall it was an unforgettable experience working with Frederick & the Eco Africa team. I highly recommend and look forward to reconnecting one day in the future.

I climbed Kilimanjaro with Eco Africa Climbing and 12 other climbers. The attention to detail was wonderful; each team member - the guides, chefs, and porters aka kili fighters - presented an air of joy, care, and total love for their jobs. They helped us every step of the way and went above and beyond to make sure we had a lovely experience. We could not have done this with better peoplw or a better company, and I definitelygot to the top because of their expertise and care. I'd recommend the company to anyone looking to climb!
