Ebay customer service does not reply

23.05.25 Ebay telephone rep lied about forwarding my query to the back office, saying someone will get back to me in 2 days. No response. Queried again 01.08.25. The rep first said she has no evidence that I had a telephone conversation with the rep, and nothing was sent to the back office. When I told her I had written evidence of the conversation, and told her where the find the evidence on her systems, all of a sudden she could find the records.

Rep told me the issue cannot be resolved even though I was told it could. I put in a complaint but the rep said she can only make a complaint on my behalf and could not give me a copy of the complaint, therefore I don't know what she actually wrote, and I have no record of the complaint being sent. I'm guessing I'm not going to get a response to this either. Contacting Ebay customer services has been a huge waste of time.

Ebay with you,just hold on

hello. I would like to share my experience.
I sold an item on ebay (LEGO), and the item was brand new. The buyer reported that the item had a missing part, and asked only for a refund, nothing more is suitable. The loss is 500£, but ebay did a professional job and determined that the buyer was cheating. I would like to thank ebay for not leaving me alone, because it would be very painful for me. thanks thanks thanks

Legal Conmen taking backhanders

Had a long conversation with Ebay today about 'Simple Delivery'. This is a total scam and in my opinion could be illegal. What they are doing is forcing you to use Evri or Royal Mail. Evri are becoming unpopular (don't trust their reviews here) and Royal Mail are incompetent and expensive for the crap services they provide. I assume they are taking kickbacks from both companies, there can be no other reason. I have done some research and found the following. Maybe we could start a class action, as anything that Ebay does is to benefit them, not the consumer!

In the UK, restrictive practice laws in retail and services primarily relate to consumer protection and competition. These laws aim to prevent unfair commercial practices, ensure fair trading, and maintain a competitive market. Key legislation includes the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, which address issues like misleading advertising, unfair contract terms, and aggressive sales tactics.
Key Areas of Restriction and Relevant Legislation:

Consumer Protection:

Misleading and Aggressive Practices: The 2008 Regulations prohibit misleading or aggressive commercial practices that distort consumer behavior or cause them to enter into unfair agreements.
Unfair Contract Terms: The Consumer Rights Act 2015 ensures that contract terms are fair and transparent, protecting consumers from potentially exploitative clauses.

Competition Law:

Restrictive Trade Practices: The Restrictive Trade Practices Act 1976 (and its predecessor, the 1956 Act) aimed to prevent agreements that restrict competition, such as price-fixing or market-sharing.

Resale Price Maintenance: The 1976 Act also dealt with resale price maintenance, where manufacturers would try to control the price at which retailers could sell their products.

Consumer Duty: The Financial Conduct Authority's (FCA) Consumer Duty requires firms to act in their customers' best interests, avoiding foreseeable harm and ensuring they are not unfairly pressured.

Consequences of Non-Compliance:

Legal Penalties:
Businesses can face fines, legal action, and reputational damage for violating consumer protection laws, competition laws, or data protection regulations.
Loss of Business:
Misleading or aggressive practices can damage consumer trust and lead to a loss of customers.
Reputational Damage:
Negative publicity surrounding non-compliance can significantly impact a business's reputation and brand image.

AVOID - SCAMMERS

After over 20 years of using eBay, it has gone from four down to zero stars. Sellers are no longer protected on eBay. eBay has introduced a buyer protection fee which is added to your selling fee. Buyers can easily abuse this system to get your items for free or for a free return leaving the seller out of pocket for posting it to the buyer & for the buyer to post back plus they add an advertisement fee! I sold an item for £8.99, brand new, with free postage to the buyer (cost me £2.94) and the buyer used a false reasons to return which eBay allowed within seconds, taking the money out of my account for the buyer to post back which was more expensive than the postage to them. I ended up losing £7.49 in total (item was only worth £4.75 to me once postage and fees deducted) on an £8.99 price item. So eBay refunded the buyer the full amount and left me out of pocket with the postage costs. I have it marked that I don’t accept returns yet eBay ignore this, what’s the point in having a returns not accepted section!? They are exploiting sellers by adding buyer protection fees onto sellers items sale price, scamming more money out of people. This is crazy and I can’t see eBay keeping any sellers happy who have been a victim of this bizarre scam they have created.
EBay has become a scammers paradise platform. Full of scammers wanting something for nothing. AVOID and don’t waste your time nor money.

To note, I reported the buyer to eBay as soon as they tried to get a full refund. I spoke with 3 people on 3 different days. The Second Lady was very helpful and agreed with me that this shouldn’t be allowed. But the third time once eBay took the money out of my account, it was a waste of time as sellers are not protected and buyers can scam as they please.
But I suppose if as a buyer your being charged extra to buy an item to pay for an insurance, you might as well abuse it until eBay realise what a stupid idea it was and lost a lot of business by someone’s embarrassing idea of implementing a buyer protection fee to make more money that hasn’t been properly thought out. Remember eBay, it’s harder to get good feedback than it is poor feedback. So if you’re going to implement an idea, make sure it is fool proof and doesn’t hit the pockets of genuine people trying to honestly sell an item and then being financially scammed out of money. Without sellers, you don’t have a business.

Punishment for privatecsellers

As an experienced seller on eBay for 16 years I rarely paid any seller fees. I was able to set appropriate postage costs. With the new management decision to apply " buyer protection" fees and being unable to decide on postage has made it impossible to sell anything as a private seller on Ebay. Unless of course I sell it for 99p. You might as well call it vinted now. A waste of time and effort

Ebay charges a fee now called buyer orotection. So seller sells for less as the fee ebay pockets ups the price. If item sent untracked (very low value item) and post office lose, seller refunds. Ebay pockets the price for doing nothing. Buyer ca leave negative feedback sellers can't do same. Biased 1 way selling platform. Jargon auto replies from agents. Used to be great now way too complicated platform.

Very happy seller Case #5360042933

I’m giving Ebay 10 stars because I sent an item to the Netherlands and the buyer requested a return as they said that the bottom of the jug had grazing and it was lies, he had amplified the the photos so much to make it look like that but when eBay’s team saw my photo of the item I sent they knew that the buyer was lying trying to get some money back . The buyer’s name was derbyjfm and of course I blocked them. Ebay closed the case in my favour and I’m very happy that they also help the seller as well.

They make up the rules as they go. Everyone has a right to return items due to distance selling rules but eBay will not always honour this. All call centres are abroad and a nightmare to explain things to because they don't understand the laws

Bamboozled by eBay error

Been a member of eBay for over 29 years.

At the end of may I sold a low value item to a buyer 300 miles away with a countryside postcode.

I securely packed the item and royal mail picked it up from my address. This was Friday late afternoon at 4.15pm. I have the collection receipt.

On Tuesday morning the buyer opened a case. Complained they had not yet received the item.

I responded by explaining the item had been dispatched late Friday and was unlikely to reach his remote address by Tuesday morning. I was polite (no sarcasm).

I asked the buyer if he would give the item 7 clear days to arrive.

It was dispatched royal mail 2nd class and probably wouldn't leave my home town sorting office until Monday. Then it needs to travel 300 miles to a remote location in the countryside.

On the Thursday I messaged the buyer asking if they had received the item. No response from buyer at all.

On Friday eBay refunded the buyer in full. BUYER HAD NOT REQUESTED A REFUND.

Estimated arrival time provided by eBay on the listing page was still fully 14 days away.

So obviously this is a mistake. They will apologise and backtrack?? No chance.

I contacted eBay instantly but got nowhere. It was as though they didn't understand.

I have since emailed the buyer 6 times more. On each occasion I ask the same question, HAVE YOU RECEIVED THE ITEM?

The buyer (fully refunded buyer) never responds at all.

In the past 12 months I have sent over 500 items via royal mail. Every single one has successfully reached it's destination.

This item may not (always a chance) but the buyer refuses to say that.

eBay refunded the buyer before item had a chance to be delivered. Well over 2 weeks before their estimated delivery date. The buyer made no request for a refund.

How the hell can this happen?

eBay just carry on, with swaggering arrogance, showing total disregard for thier customers / sellers

This is an eBay error. However it is also a crime

I would say something like I hope eBay read this and investigate their error. That however is pointless because they simply don't care.

FRAUD BY EBAY

I won a music centre from seller PAAKEH98, who then went to ebay to falsely claim I had cancelled, issued refund. Several emails between seller and me, I left neg feedback. Ebay slyly removed it! Several exchanges with ebay, who will NOT DEAL with reported fraud even with documentary evidence. Shown to be lying several times to me and challenged, they suddenly cancelled access to ebay online complaint. Thanks Raj and Leon, 2 of most corrupt individuals in the corrupt ebay company AND COMPLICIT IN FRAUD BY SELLER. EBAY IS NOW A DISGUSTING COMPANY, nothing like it was when I started buying 20 year ago! IF I COULD GIVE NO STARS I WOULD.

Ebay is truly disgusting and heartless, they have indefinitely suspended my account after I provided ALL documents they requested and I have 100% feedback. They are happily withholding my money for 190 days while I suffer to make ends meet. Customer service agents are heartless and robotic. Shame on you Ebay, I have no idea how these people sleep at night.
