Leave or avoid Eastern Bank

I would give no stars if that were an option. I have been a happy Eastern customer write up until the “thoughts and prayers“ service I received today. I made a mobile deposit yesterday and I have to add that 95% of my deposits are online. This morning my account showed the check that I had deposited yesterday was free and clear and so I paid some bills with it. Then other local farmers market my check was declined. I thought for certain it was the vendors fault but when I looked at my online account suddenly that check that had been free and clear this morning was no longer showing. Apparently security put a hold on it, no email no phone call to me. When I got home, I called customer service and was on hold and off with them for 32 minutes before I asked to speak with a supervisor who told me that I should call the local bank because they could deal with it more efficiently. This was a supervisor at customer service who gave me that information. I called the local office and the woman who answered had no idea why customer service had me call. She did say that she would call customer service and then call me back which to her credit she did however, the fact that my account showed the funds were available this morning and then because of some unknown reason from the fraud people they have put a five business day hold on it and there is nothing anyone can do. According to them, I asked if they could understand how a customer seeing that funds were free and available. Would then use the card and then security for whatever reason put a hold on the card without notifying the customer. The customer is the one in jeopardy and I was told “I can understand why you feel that way“ it’s time to find a new bank.

Horrible, don't sign up!

Has none of the features of my previous bank that made managing things easy.
Can't freeze my card when I've misplaced it and need to instead report it lost (ik it's somewhere at my workplace but not comfortable leaving it working while not in my possession) they don't answer messages they don't want to answer (took well over a week maybe 2 (and even after responding they give zero help or alternatives) for them to answer one message but a different message I sent (not urgent in the least) they answer within a day if not less. It's super unreliable and I am not switching banks. Harborone was fine and this one they merged with is terrible.

Former Harborone customer here

Former Harborone customer here. I received a letter from the bank stating they were raising my interest rate on my credit card from 15 to 22 percent. My wife and I both maintain over 800 credit scores for years. Seeing how they prioritize corporate greed over their customers I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. (Along with my associates)
Now a former Eastern bank customer

Cash Out Loan

I approached Eastern Bank seeking a straightforward 20-year fixed cash-out loan against a commercial building my LLC owns free and clear. The property has been occupied by the same operating business for over 20 years, and I requested only about 50% loan-to-value.

Instead, after nearly three weeks of underwriting, repeated document requests, and constant back-and-forth, the bank presented a loan structure that was completely different from what I requested.

The offer was not a true 20-year fixed loan. It included a 5-year rate reset, a 10-year balloon, and a 25-year amortization that would still leave a massive balance due at maturity. After ten years of payments, I would still owe nearly half a million dollars and be forced to refinance again or pay a balloon. That was never what I asked for.

What made the experience especially frustrating was the underwriting process itself. The bank raised concerns over an old lien matter that had already been fully paid, resolved, and released. I offered certificates of good standing and supporting documentation from the relevant agencies, yet I still found myself having to walk the underwriter through how to interpret the LexisNexis reporting and organize the information into a spreadsheet so it could be understood properly.

Despite bringing a debt-free commercial property, modest leverage request, long operating history, and documentation showing the issues had been resolved, the final terms still came back with a high rate structure, a balloon payment, and multiple protections heavily favoring the bank.

Had Eastern Bank simply stated upfront that they were unwilling to offer a true long-term fixed structure, I could have moved on immediately instead of losing valuable time.

Overall, the process felt unnecessarily disorganized, drawn out, and far less transparent than I expected from a major regional bank.

Great wealth services; poor customer service on debit

Great wealth services. They provide no ATM fees and reimbursement of others' ATM fees when you use their wealth services in conjunction with checking. $500 overdraft permitting without any penalties - huge bonus if you make a mistake. Their customer service for your debit cards leaves much to be desired; they have very limited hours and are unavailable on the weekend except for canceling a card/fraud support

They bought my Harborone bank and I can't even get into my account. I called the bank and they can't get in either.....and I have them my account number and other credentials. Unbelievable!!!! I'm away for work and can't even get my money. I'm sitting here waiting for the customer service person to help. This is so like these banks these days. As soon as I get home, I'm taking my money out! Don't go with this bank.

Dont do it

Eastern bank has purchased a bank that I have been a member at since I was a child. I figured i would give them a chance but now after several phone calls emails and several letters from them this launch is an epic failure. I was on the phone today for the third time for 45 minutes and they still can't provide access to my accounts. I am beside myself and had to hang up on the sweet person on the other line before she received some words that she did not want to receive. I understand this was not her fault but just a terrible bank doing what they do best just. I hope to soon remove all of my accounts from this bank they can go to hell

Steer clear of eastern bank there criminal and your money will not be safe he worst service in bank history…

The worst service in bank history bordering on criminal. Eastern bank after knowing my account was being charged fraudulent it continues happening week to week turning my $750 check into a $ 167 dollar available amount! Now they have been making excuses why they won't pay me about $4000 that they know they owe. For example there excuses range from waiting for mail for my reimbursement check then it has to be signed but that manager isn't in for personal reasons I'm so pissed it's been months of this bullshit excuses. I'm currently homeless because of this bank not to mention my family has lend me money to eat has been sickeningly humiliated. If you're looking for a bank steer clear of eastern bank there crooked.......12/27/24 still waiting for my reimbursement. Didn't need the Grinch this year I got eastern bank!!!!!!!

The Tellers and Management of the Back…

The Tellers and Management of the Back Bay Bank are excellent; however, the Customer Service is beyond bad. When I call I am told that due to many calls I will have to wait to speak to someone. After 5 minutes I am then asked if I want a Call Back and not lose my place in Line. I agree; however, no Call Back. Eastern Bank is not interested in Customer Service.

Going backwards!!!!

It's more difficult to navigate. Not as easy to see what's what in a glance like the old app. Eastern Bank, if it isn't broken don't fix it. The old one was perfectly fine.

Focus more on your bank customers than promoting woke policies.

Last year Eastern started closing the day after Thanksgiving in order to give their employees a long weekend. Personally I have no issue with that. As a matter of fact I find it admirable that they do that for their employees.

That said, here's the issue I have with Eastern which is directly related to closing the day after Thanksgiving.

Not only are the branches and corporate offices closed but any transactions that are processed on that day, such as a mobile or ATM check deposit for example, are not posted until the following Tuesday morning.

So even though the day after Friday is considered a regular business day, it's NOT considered a business day in the eyes of Eastern Bank. What's disconcerting about this is that if someone makes a good faith check deposit whether through the mobile app or at an ATM, and is expecting to have those funds available for that upcoming weekend, they are SOL.

If that's going to be the "official Bank policy" then so be it but they do not mention ANYWHERE either on their website, social media, branch offices etc...the fact that any electronic check deposits will not post until Monday evening/Tuesday morning and something as important as that should definitely be relayed to the customers.

Frankly what Eastern should be doing is focusing more on the needs of their banking customers than promoting a woke agenda which they seem to be so preoccupied with lately.

There are many small banks and credit unions, competing for my business, that don't subscribe to such nonsense that Eastern Bank promotes.

Trying to keep my money

We have been unable to get Eastern Bank to transfer money from a 401k CD to another financial institution. They refuse to accept valid paperwork, Medallion Signature Guarantee etc etc. They ignored the transfer paperwork and renewed the three year CD at .015 % interest. That is correct really no interest on 4/10/23. Yes the Massachusetts Banking commission has a complaint filed about this.

I've been banking with EB for over 10…

I've been banking with EB for over 10 years now. The last year has been an absolute nightmare, causing me to open up a bank account with another banking institute.

During the pandemic my account accrued over $3,000 fees. While many people were losing their jobs, homes, and livelihood, EB was robbing me blind with fees.

Most recently they had large fraudulent activity across their institution. My account being one that suffered from this. I had to close my accounts and open up new ones. Ever since, it has been a complete downhill battle.
