I've been collaborating with KERN and providing translation services to them for years now. They are fully legit, and they will never demand an upfront payment from their vendors. Their project managers are professional and competent, and they usually cooperate with reputable end clients. The downsides are their extended payment period (60 days after the invoice date) and relatively low rates, given the fact that they're based in Germany and collaborating with major market players. But the overall experience is positive. After all, it is the vendor who decides whether to accept the rates and payment terms or not.
