I liked the price

I liked the price. But after I left eztaxreturn($984 federal refund) I did this one and only got $888. Anyways, the instructions on CONTINUE are a bit less easy to understand than eztaxreturn cuz it doesn't tell you what to do when you press the wrong button.

We apologize for any confusion with this. We do charge for our extension software ($29.99). All extension purchases include free software to file a 1040 tax return between April 20th and October 15th. I suspect this is where you saw the word "free". I am very sorry if this was misinterpreted. You can print a free IRS extension form and mail it here https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4868.pdf. This would not include our software to prepare your 1040. If you plan to print and mail your extension, we advise that you purchase certified delivery from the USPS.

Not user friendly if you have sales from like an eBay account

The format is reasonable, but if you have a tiny eBay business, good luck if you make a mistake! Schedule C doesn't appear to be deletable once you have it.

Considering how many people have small online sales on sites like eBay, there needs to be a separate guide that is clearly listed. I was guessing at

I had to print everything out, both State & Federal forms, and send these via snail mail in order to get rid of a simple mistake.

Your earnings from eBay, even though they were only a few hundred dollars, required you to file a Schedule C. Our software undergoes annual testing with the IRS to ensure everything is in compliance. Removing the IRS required Schedule C, while technically possible, would have resulted in an inaccurate tax return. I'm very sorry for any confusion with this.

You posted this for the wrong website/service. We are www.E-file.com, and do not charge $34.95 to file an extension (the fee for this is far less on our website and includes free software to prepare a 1040). Please double check your confirmation emails/credit card receipts and move this review to the correct company. Thank you.

We feel BLESSED to have known about E-FILE !

We feel BLESSED, to have known about E-File, as it was not listed in search for companies to file with.
They truly know their stuff, and make it easy to
get through the process.
Glad we took the premium, this year, as we felt
uncomfortable dealing with all of this year's changes..
So we did end up calling, near the end and got the most wonderful women, who was so knoweldgeable, quick witted, patient and kind...
it made it all worth while, to be able to talk to her and allow her to guide us to the end
It was worth every penny we paid, which was much less than the others asked for ( Husband said one of them wanted $500 ! )
We feel like E-File is our HOME, when it comes to tax time... :<))
I do suggest at the least to take the Delux for $25.49
It only takes a minute or so to be talking to someone who can answer any questions you have.
Filing taxes can be stressful, for most people, and they DE STRESS the time spent.. !!
Now we can rest easy, knowing exactly what to do next year ~ God Willing ~~~

Thank you for providing us with information through Trustpilot so that we could investigate this further.

Please note, we offer free federal filing for those who qualify for our basic software. There is a fee for our state filing software and also a fee for our deluxe and premium software which is often used with more complicated returns. In your instance, it appears you needed several forms that are not covered by our free basic software; this is why the system moved you to the software required to properly prepare your return. Those forms were the Schedule C, Schedule D and a form 8949.

The business/non-employee income you received last year will make you ineligible for most (if not all) free software options. E-file.com is generally less expensive than other comparable software options.

There is also a fee associated with the state tax return that you elected to prepare, although again, less than what most other comparable tax software providers charge.

As a courtesy, our support team reached out and provide you with a coupon code to cover the cost of your software this year. At this time, it does not appear that you have selected to use this code.

Again, I am very sorry for the confusion you had with this. Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

e-file failures

For two years now, I am very disappointed in e-file. 2024 Tax return rejected once received by the IRS, due to "signature verification failure" and 2025 for "additional required documentation failure" due to my overtime exemption. NEITHER TIME did e-file contact me about problems in either case, and both times, I had to find out from the IRS. I will never use this site again.

I am very sorry for the trouble with this. What you have described here are notices from the IRS after they have already accepted and acknowledged the returns. In 2024 it sounds like the IRS sent you a letter requesting you to verify your identity before your refund could be released. In 2025 it sounds like the IRS sent you a letter requesting documentation relating to the new overtime deduction. The IRS sometimes requests this sort of verification information to help prevent against fraud and/or overpayment. When they do this, they do not include the tax software provider in the communication (no matter where the return is prepared or transmitted). Once the tax return has been filed and acknowledged, no further information is provided to the software provider. It would only be directed to the taxpayer.
