Empower is good, but lacks the customer service of other rideshare apps (I guess you get what you pay for)
I like a lot of things about Empower. I like that it is often cheaper than Uber and Lyft (not always, Lyft is often slightly cheaper) and that the driver keeps more of the revenue. I have had a couple of issues. In early February 2026, the driver passed my drop-off point. He was using an external map app and I guess put the wrong address in. The Empower app indicated the correct drop-off point. I was charged extra for the extra time and mileage. Unlike Uber and Lyft, Empower's customer service is almost non-existent. You have to send them a message through their website. You get no transcript of the message. Just a message that they got your message indicating: "Due to the rapid growth of the platform, customer support response times may be a bit higher over the next few weeks as Empower is currently in the process of hiring more customer support team members." I just had another issue in early April 2026 and got the same response. In the second incident, the app quoted a fare of $15 and change. Immediately after the ride was assigned to me, the fare changed to $21.11. They authorize you for a few bucks over the quoted fare and I was authorized for $18 initially. I ended up paying $21.11. Very annoying. Feels like a bait and switch. Waiting for Empower to respond or I will contact my credit card issuer.
