Run Away Now.....

If you’re looking for timely processing and clear communication, DORT is not the right place.

Our APPRAISAL took nearly SIX WEEKS — a timeline that should never exceed two weeks from contract execution. During that period, DORT provided no proactive updates. We had to repeatedly email them just to get basic status information on our own loan.

Even after the delayed appraisal, we closed two weeks later, and still have no access to our funds. We were never instructed to set up an online account, order checks, or access our line in any way. At this point, we’re still trying to figure out how to obtain the funds we were approved for.

Overall, an extremely frustrating and avoidable experience.

Automated system is a joke

I have been a customer for this credit union for several years. They recently put in an automated system and I went back and forth until I found someone who could help me. I was trying to get a new pin number for a new debit card, and I kept getting bounced around from one agency to another. And when I tried to push the button to reactivate or get a new pin number, I got hung up on. They need to go back to talking to a human because their automated system is not working and it's a complete joke.

Mixed Feedback!

Mixed Feedback!

When I stop into the Hill Road branch, the service is top notch A+. The team there is always so friendly, helpful, and efficient.

However, if you try to do anything online, this bank is stuck in the 1980's. I spent 20 minutes trying to find a full account number for a joint account I was on. The instructions say go to "Account Details". There is no Account Details on the website.

Also, I was trying to get added to a joint account. I tried e-mailing to understand the process, and they responded that I need to call, for security reasons. I don't need anything specific on my account, I just want to understand Dort Federal's process! So then I called, but when I stopped in the branch, I was told something different than on the call. And no one in the branch cared that I was told something different. Please note this was the Holly Road branch. However, I will say the employee that helped me get everything set up was very friendly and helpful.

In summary, they are wonderful in person, but terrible if you're not physically at a branch.

The absolute worst customer service…

The absolute worst customer service from Jerry. Extremely condescending, I had to ask three separate times about how to login to my new account and he was instructing me to just drive to the branch, instead of just helping me over the phone. It turns out the form I filled out was completely correct with my correct Email, but someone at Dort Financial typed it in wrong, So this caused a chain of events that I could not talk to anyone over the phone about this. And made it difficult to figure out why I couldn't access my account. So the Error was completely on Dort Financial. Jerry from customer service was extremely rude and talked over me multiple times when I tried explaining my issue with my account.

Do you have a Trust? Choose a different Credit Union!

My mother recently passed away after a 3 week hospitalization in critical care. My father passed away in 2019, and had 1 account with his name on it and my mom as the beneficiary.

My mother brought in my father's death certificate, but they never scanned it, just "made a note on the account." In 2022, she formed a Family Trust, and put it on record with Dort - they still did not scan the death certificate or change my father's account.

Then, when I came to the branch in December of 2025 as my mother's POA and stated that she was in critical condition, they asked me to bring in my father's death certificate AGAIN, which I did. For the THIRD time, nobody made the effort to say the account ownership needed to be changed to my mother's Trust... nor did they change it.

If representatives at Dort Financial had informed my mother in 2019 or 2022 (or me in December of 2025 as her POA) at the proper times when we brought certificates of death for my father to the credit union, I would have been able to grieve my mother's passing properly. Instead, I spent the next 6 WEEKS emailing and mailing notarized forms back and forth (55 total emails - I counted them - that lady was the ONLY person who showed even a shred of understanding...), before they FINALLY released the funds. This should have been handled immediately, per my mother's trust instructions.

The other thing they did was revoke all online access to my mother's accounts when I came in with the POA paperwork. The "legal team" said that it didn't say that I had "online or digital access" to her accounts. I pointed out the line that said "ALL banking privileges" and said "What does ALL mean?" They told me it didn't matter, and shut down access to her accounts, even though I live in South Carolina. This caused major issues in itself, because I couldn't tell what account money was being pulled from when I was paying my mother's bills. Then they had the nerve to charge NSF fees even though the money was there, just in a different account.

I have never had such a horrendous experience with a bank or credit union. My parents had been members for more than 50 YEARS - you would think that would mean something. IF YOU HAVE A TRUST, CHOOSE ELGA - They were the ONLY bank that handled my mother's Trust correctly and professionally.

The customer service is terrible

The customer service is terrible. The man that works in grand blanc is very rude and has no empathy for the human race or maybe white people. I am a manager of a loan center and no matter what I’ve never treated my customers in the way we were treated. Whether they owe me money or not!

Bank like it’s 1980

Opened two CDs for 10 months. You can’t change your distribution preference online to close out at the end of term like any other bank. Renewal is automatic and then you have to call to reverse. They claimed they sent notices of renewal and new rates but we received nothing. The renewal was at a garbage rate so wound up paying a fee to close out. The only way to request a fee waiver was to physically go to the bank and I am traveling. Ridiculous. Worse is getting your money OUT of Dort when you’ve had enough. They do not allow any incoming connections so you can’t initiate a transfer from another bank. Their limits on outbound bank transfers are ridiculously low, I guess this is really not a bank for people with any savings at all. The only other way is to wire which of course they charge for. The way to wire is a form on the site that sends a one sentence acknowledgment with no timeline at all. Still waiting on that wire. Basically unless you are a local customer who needs the most basic banking, just stay away. This isn’t a real bank.

The credit union from hell

They are the worst credit Union ever they are rude they don't help people out my grandparents have been with Dort Federal for 50 some years since they opened they let somebody scam all their money out of their account my grandparents are 90 years old and we live 2 hours from there they wouldn't switch Banks because that was the first bank that they ever had and everything was good until about a year ago when somebody scammed all their money out of the bank account now they are in debt due to door federal because they locked their accounts took their debit and credit card away from them refuse to send them another debit card or credit card then they started writing checks so they could pay their bills and stuff and get money out of their account and dart Federal started denying the checks to a few places that they were cashing checks at checks got denied and brought back so now they're having to pay that back the money they got for cashing the checks and interest and they didn't even know they didn't have any money in their account so they end up having to pay like $2,000 in overdraft fees and every time we try to get information on the phone they hang up on them or they tell them that they need to come in the office they're 91 years old my grandma's on oxygen 24/7 and my grandma and my grandpa can barely walk they both can't ride in a car for 2 hours down there to get information about their account they have cost them and ran up debt for them over $2,500 and they're still paying for it now every time they even try to get a loan or something from somebody out there denied because Dort Federal put something on their account they're a horrible credit Union for treating her customers like that that have been with them since day one my grandpa's picture is on the wall at Dort Federal and Dort highway and all because they don't pass the voice thing for security they hang up on them they never updated it their voices are not going to sound the same as they did 15 years ago they're 91 years old and then even if they still answer all their security questions right they still tell nope you need to come in the office and hang up on them we have no idea where all their money went they have not offered to pay it back they just keep making them run up and debt because they have to pay their bills so we don't know if they're going to take a check or deny a check or in the process of switching all their money their checks are direct deposit in there to another bank they're assholes and I would give them a zero Stars you want your money to be safe don't go to Dort Federal they don't care about you or your money

I emailed a finance advisor Kaitlyn…

I emailed a Dort Federal finance advisor Kaitlyn Schulz pertaining to a fraud alert issue via email. She denied my request to initiate an investigation as well as deactivating my card. My point is if you can validate my identity via provided Information per my account, and send e-signature pdf's via email you should oblige my security requests via that same verified email.

I would like to request a service change given the activities of loyalty and interactive business as a long standing member of said Credit Union to handled my financial business and non-Payee ! Thank You -Ja'Lisa Smith-Harrison

Do not use this company for a lease

Do not use this company for a lease. The interest rate was extremely high. Bought out the lease and the didn’t include the state taxes and I have a $1500 tax bill I have to pay. I’ve had five leases and never on another lease. Have I ever had to do this and I have bought more than one. Stay away from this company stay away from this Credit Union , they’re going to screw you royally.

Stay away from DCU

Stay away from DCU. Don't be tempted to deposit your money in any promotions with a high rate because you may end up regretting it like we did. One of our CDs expired, giving us a week to decide what to do or they would reinvest it for another 3 months. The seventh day and the first day of the expiration fell on a Sunday, which is for us a holy day of obligation due Christians where we do no work and focus on our Faith.

I began the process of trying to wire the substantial CD funds on my own, only four days into the allowed week and experienced a great deal of difficulty. Their telephone answering machine does not take messages so I was forced to push everything over to the following day. It seems like no one had an answer on how I can send a wire through the app or online.

Finally, our CD expired on the seventh and last day which was a Sunday. And on Monday I finally got hold of CustomerService which told me that they would not allow a withdrawal for a wire, even if I was only 1 day late and the expiration actually fell on a Sunday. They threatened to charge me $1600 if I took our money out of the their Credit Union and move it to an external bank. This was outrageous. Very unnecessary and consumer unfriendly. Even the IRS and many businesses customers to transact on Monday if an expiration date falls on a Sunday.

We appealed to a supervisor who turned out to be a stiff necked jerk. There were no government regulations preventing them from treating us better. Inflexible? You bet!!! This is the most unfriendly company I've ever worked with. I was appalled at the unwillingness to bend. We only asked for what work would seemed sensible to any reasonable person. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would grade Dow Credit Union a '0'. They are not worth the trouble or your time. Line us, you may end up with a sour taste in your mouth. Like I wrote at the start — STAY AWAY FROM DOW CREDIT UNION.

Delighted with This Experience

I went to Dort Financial with trepidation as my previous experience at the Grand Blanc location more than a year ago was not good. Bottom line, I was delighted with the service and professionalism at the Orion Township location. Elizabeth, who helped me complete the transaction, was outstanding. Everything was done to my satisfaction and was completed in a very reasonable time. I could not be more pleased!

Owosso Customer Service

Owosso Customer Service
I have been a customer of Dort for 3 years. During the time I have ran into minor and major problems mostly your online system but with also my debit card being used illegally. At times I considered to transfer to another financial company. However, I discovered that you and I, are lucky to have a person consider right in the Owosso Dort to share a problem with customers such as I. The Customer Service lady, Vanessa, has always been outstanding help. Always very friendly and welcoming regardless how her own concerns are. Vanessa certainly is a value employee for you and your customers. Gary Coe

I've been trying to pay my loan for…

I've been trying to pay my loan for nearly a month now. The website wouldn't work. I finally had to trade several emails, and they told me the app would let me set up the account. Set that up. Now it won't take any information to pay the loan they gave me. And I got an email saying I had to verify my identity. TO GIVE THEM MONEY. Did I mention the nearest branch was 3 hours away from me? I was told they were local. And frankly giving away a loan at that distance is just stupid.

No one has contacted me to explore…

No one has contacted me to explore options on a new home mortgage. I even spoke to a gentleman that had called to inform me that another loan through your bank hasn't been getting automatically paid through my other banking account, I expressed to him how this is the 3rd time my credit has taken on a bad hit due to your loan officers not following through what I had asked. Anyway, that gentleman was also supposed to give me an email about contact information for a mortgage person. Nothing has ever happened. More then likely will be paying off my loans with you, and going elsewhere due to customer service is so bad. I've been banking here for 10 years, and has gotten worse every year.
