Better to stay away from Dodo payment and find other alternatives

Honestly didn't expect to write this. But after what happened, I feel like other founders deserve to know.
My account got suspended with the reason "generating NSFW content." My product is an AI video studio, and one of the first things I built was a filter that blocks users from generating NSFW content. So the reason made no sense at all.
What hurt more: they refunded all my active subscribers without telling me. Customers I worked months for and spent real ad money to get just gone. One of the refunds was from my own test account and the money never even came back to my bank.
I reached out through email and Discord trying to understand what happened. Two days of nothing, then a generic reply about "confidentiality obligations" and that they "can't reverse the action." No evidence shown. No real explanation.
When I kept following up on Discord, they blocked me.
Stripe is not work in my country. Dodo felt like the answer. Maybe it works fine for others, but if something goes wrong, even something completely out of your control, there's no one to talk to and nothing you can do about it.
I would suggest to stay away from them.

Dodo Payments operates under strict compliance and partner network requirements. In this case, the account action was taken following a risk and compliance review, where the platform was flagged for potential NSFW content generation. These decisions are not made lightly and are based on actual testing, third-party signals, and payment partner requirements, not assumptions.

Regarding refunds, when a business is found to be in violation of policy, we are required to wind down processing and reverse recent transactions. This is a standard risk mitigation step across all Merchant of Record providers, and not something we can selectively override.

On communication - we did respond via email. However, certain details cannot be shared publicly due to compliance and partner confidentiality obligations, which are standard across the payments industry.

We also want to clarify that:

1. Refunds are issued back to the original payment method, and timelines depend on the customer’s bank

2. Test transactions follow the same refund flow as live transactions

We understand that this may not have been the outcome you expected. However, these actions are taken to ensure platform integrity and compliance with global payment regulations.

They blocked account right before…

They blocked account right before payouts without any explanation. They collect taxes but when I asked for proof of payment they did not have anything. They are scammers, collecting tax money and not paying it to the respective authorities. The never replied to my support query. RUN!!!

Account actions - including suspensions - are only taken following a compliance and risk review, in line with our policies and payment partner requirements. These decisions are not arbitrary and are communicated via email with the relevant reason.

Regarding payouts, in certain cases (such as elevated risk, disputes, or policy violations), funds may be placed under a mandatory hold period as required by card networks. This is a standard industry practice and not unique to Dodo Payments.

On taxes - as a Merchant of Record, we collect and remit applicable taxes directly to the relevant authorities. This is handled as part of our regulated obligations. Tax remittance is not something we withhold or misuse.

We also want to clarify that our support team does respond to all queries, though response times may vary depending on the complexity of the case and the need for internal review.

1) Product Subscription Management…

1) Product Subscription Management Improvements
I would like to see more flexibility in the Product Subscription feature, specifically regarding the ability to group and edit subscriptions. I need a way to classify them by certain attributes. For example, I have a tiered subscription system that also operates in cycles.

Currently, I have 3-5 variations for "Tier 1," and so on. Instead of having a single group with shared fields and specific dividers, I have to create separate products for every single tier and cycle. This results in a lot of duplicated content. Since the only difference between tiers in different cycles is the duration—while the description, functionality, and even add-ons remain the same—it creates a significant amount of redundant manual work.

2) Checkout Status Visibility
The status "Checkout was started but no payment method was added, or the customer left before completing" is not something I want to see by default. I don't see the value in having this in the default table sorting/view. I would prefer to hide this status and have the table display more relevant data by default.

3) Filter UI/UX
I noticed the UI for filters was changed from checkboxes to radio buttons. However, I would prefer to keep the checkbox functionality. I need the ability to select multiple fields simultaneously, especially on the Transactions/Payments pages.

4) Persistent Table States
I want the ability to save the state of tables, including custom sorting and active filters. Ideally, my custom configuration should become the default view every time I navigate to a page.

We completely understand how managing tiered subscriptions across multiple cycles can feel repetitive and time-consuming. Our current architecture requires individual products per payment link to maintain accurate billing history, which we know creates extra manual work when your tiers share the same description, features, and add-ons.

In the meantime, two workarounds that may help: the duplicate feature lets you quickly copy a product and adjust only the duration, and product collections allow you to group related tiers under a single checkout flow to reduce storefront duplication. That said, we hear you, subscription grouping and editing flexibility are already on our product roadmap.

For points 2, 3, and 4, your feedback has been flagged directly with our product team. We agree these affect day-to-day usability, and our team is actively working on improvements across checkout status visibility, filter behaviour, and the ability to save custom table configurations as default views.

They charged me TWICE when I bought a…

They charged me TWICE when I bought a service and then started ghosting me. I've been trying to resolve this issue, but the workers keep on ghosting my emails. I've tried for over a month and sent countless emails. I would never use this company again and will warn others about this. Please don't use this company in any way!!!

Started off okay

Started off okay, but quickly ran into issues with delayed transactions. Customer support was unhelpful and took too long to reply. Overall, not a reliable payment solution.

Exactly what i needed

Destructive experience – They mass-refunded my happy customers

The integration was easy and they were responsive, but after a month of working with them, they sent us a message saying our business violates their compliance policy, while they approved us initially. Not only it paused our business completely, as we were running with marketing and live users on the website, the worst thing was that they refunded all of our happy customers without any warning, even though not a single customer complained about the product. One day before it happened, they sent me a request to give them a good review on Trustpilot.

Your platform was not “misunderstood”, it was caught.

Our risk team directly tested your product and confirmed that it generates explicit, NSFW content with zero effective safeguards. There were no filters, no moderation, no attempt at compliance. The only real restriction was whether a user had paid for credits, meaning you were quite literally monetising prohibited content.

To remove any doubt, independent third-party risk systems also flagged your platform as high-risk for deepfake activity. So this isn’t just our assessment; it’s consistent across external risk intelligence as well.

On prior approval and termination: Approval on Dodo Payments is conditional upon adherence to our Acceptable Use Policy. The moment we detect the facilitation of prohibited activity, that approval ends. There is nothing ambiguous about this.

On refunds: we will not act as the seller of record for businesses operating in violation of our policies. Any actions taken are fully aligned with our Terms and regulatory requirements.

To be clear, the evidence on record is unambiguous. Your account is terminated, and this decision is final. Dodo Payments does not, and will not, support platforms built on prohibited use cases.

The amount (₹15,000) you’re seeing is a maximum mandate limit set by the bank/payment network, not the actual charge. The system sets an upper cap to allow future renewals or variable billing without needing repeated approvals.

Customers are only charged the actual subscription amount, not the mandated limit shown.

That said, we agree this can cause concern, and we’re actively working on improving how this is communicated during checkout to make it clearer.

As a Merchant of Record, Dodo Payments is responsible for collecting and remitting applicable taxes (such as sales tax, GST, or VAT) based on the customer’s location and local regulations.

This isn’t optional - taxes are applied where legally required, and we’re obligated to collect them to stay compliant with global tax laws. Because of this, there isn’t an option to “turn off” taxes.

The benefit of this model is that merchants don’t need to worry about tax calculation, filing, or compliance across different regions - we handle it end-to-end.

We understand it may feel restrictive, but this is standard practice across all Merchant of Record platforms.
