Tax Collector's Best Friend
I paid more than $17,000 in additional taxes as a result of filing the return that these folks prepared. When they asked for my signature on the tax return shortly before the filing deadline, they failed to mention that they changed (from the prior year return) a key aspect of the return which increased my tax liability by the $17K. Even my tax collectors told me that DK screwed up. When I asked to schedule a call with a partner to discuss the matter, they refused to even talk it over. Instead, they took an totally adversarial approach, and cited this language in their engagement letter:
“You have the final responsibility for the income tax returns, and therefore, you should review them carefully before you sign them.”
Simply translated: 'You pay for our screw-ups.'
So if you are an accountant and can ensure their work is proper, maybe you are in a good position to hire them. For everyone else, know that their work quality, in my experience, is far below what you can get from India.
