Premium Fast Food

During my visit, I experienced a very strong start followed by a noticeable drop in service quality.

The beginning of the evening was genuinely impressive.
The welcome, atmosphere and overall attentiveness of the team created a warm and engaging experience. The staff showed real presence and care – something that clearly reflects a well-trained and thoughtful service culture.

However, once the food arrived, the level of attention dropped significantly.
Most notably, the drinks arrived after the food – which should not happen in a setting that positions itself at a premium level, as it disrupts the entire dining experience. Throughout the meal, I repeatedly tried to get attention, for example to have my water refilled or to order another drink, but was unable to establish eye contact with any member of staff.

After finishing, the table was cleared quickly, but no one checked back in. When I asked about another drink, I received a brief answer and no further follow-up. This continued afterwards, leaving me seated for an extended period without any opportunity to order, despite several attempts to make contact.

I had already shared this feedback directly via email after being invited to do so, but did not receive any response. I am therefore sharing it here.

This break in continuity significantly affected the overall experience.
What started as a high-quality, almost premium dining atmosphere ended up feeling more like a fast-paced service without sustained attention.

There is clearly strong potential here – the team shows what they are capable of.
The key issue is consistency throughout the entire guest journey.

Bland And Overpriced

Birmingham Dishoom. Well, my colleagues and I all ordered the chicken ruby and honestly it tasted like Heinz Tomato Soup with un marinated chicken. Absolutely awful overpriced food. I initially wanted a Biriyani only to find out it didn’t come with a sauce and the only sauce you could get was a riata sauce which was extra ???. The staff were clueless and unapologetic.

Too much salt in the food

So much is good, but was rather spoilt for us by excessive salt in the food. Remember that it can always be added, but the customer is helpless if there is too much.
The location is convenient, atmosphere makes a visit a special occasion, service was excellent. The food was tasty, but even when drinking water and beer with the meal we were very thirsty later, which we find only happens when a meal has too much salt.

Not Impressed Indian

Review from an Indian with an experienced palate for South Asian food. A hundred pound bill for two.Food was dry spice heavy which tasted powdery. Small portions. Expensive for a two main courses and two starters with no alcohol. Overrated. Can get genuine curries in so many curry houses where I would be happy to pay the hundred pounds but where I know the cost would be half. Disappointing. Overrated.

Very overpriced

Dishoom is already overpriced, but what really bothered me was being overcharged due to a muddled bill. I didn’t spot it at the time, but customers shouldn’t have to audit their receipt at these prices. Check your bill carefully.

Excellent staff help.

The staff were extremely accommodating, helpful, and complimentary.
We were able to move tables (out of the draft), and when our friend had a health crisis, they went out of the way to help her, calling security, the ambulance, finding her a quiet spot, and enabling her brother to come and escort us home. Hussain was especially helpful, assuring us and keeping us updated with the steps he was taking with our friend and why.

Dishoom, Glasgow. Total rip-off!

Dishoom menu is so pretentious and also confusing in its layout. Server informed our party of 4 that there are no Starters as such, but we should order 3 Small Plates each as our starters!! We didn't!!
The advice was also to order two dishes per person for mains.
We are glad we did as one would never have been enough.
When it arrived, the food did not justify the cost.
The Chef's Glasgow Special (Lamb) is available as a half-plate or full plate. I ordered a half-plate (£19.50) and it arrived with only 3 very small cubes of lamb! Rice was an extra £4.90!
A friend had the Charred Lamb Chops "Two chops of generous proportions.." NOT! These chops were not "generous" in the slightest, quite the opposite in fact, actually towards the smaller side of average. The cost, £20!! £10 per small, lamb chop!!
The Desserts are no better value. One small scoop of vanilla ice cream is £7.50 and was lost at the bottom of the little stainless steel bowl.
I could go on as not one of the many dishes we had was value for money.
They also add a 12.5% service charge.
There are many better Indian restaurants all over Glasgow that don't rip-off their customers.
My advice is to visit one of them and avoid this restaurant chain!

Extremely noticeable decline in both quality of food items and decline in level customer service

Initially from waiting & eventually being shown to our table we were guided through what was supposed to be the highlights on the menu which was not accordingly appropriate to what was served.
1. Poppadoms - outcome -was served and tasted like popcorn and was visually unpresentable to the point that we felt very disappointed, uncomfortable and let down for an opening to a meal which we had purposely saved all day our appetites for and we were very much looking forward to. When challenged on their service we did not get what we mutually thought would be appropriate of the outcome. Two £10 Dishoom vouchers were given at the time of the bill and it was offered was there anything else we would like. By this stage the matter was almost beyond resolving due to the fact both of us were extremely unhappy & dissatisfied. I gave back the vouchers in disgust as I will not ever be returning to any branch of Dishoom.
That is how I feel, that the whole experience was a major let down.
This was meant to be a very big celebration for myself and my partner, Mark because I had invited him all the way from Scarborough where he had travelled from (a 2 hour train journey into King's Cross Station) This was our second date as a brand new couple and I had personally chosen & recommeded Dishoom having been to King's Cross branch once before. Incidentally my first experience was very satisfactory, I was suitably impressed with the service and the uniqueness and found the food on that occasion to be delicious and impressive. The service was very good on that occasion and was generously tipped accordingly.
In my preference to my review which I have presented to you, I would have assumed on a professional level that we would not have been required to pay the £90.00 bill in accordance with our level of dissatisfaction. We were that unhappy and left the restaurant feeling very disgruntled, annoyed and let down.

Worst service ever from an eatery

We went to Dishoom Carnaby last night, have been there few times. There was long waiting time, we were ready to wait, however the guy at the reception, african descent who was taking bookings was extremely rude, arrogant and racist. He would give waiting time based on your looks, indians given longer waiting time, than other people. When asked why is it longer for us than couple just ahead of us, he said, you are two that's why? This is not the reason we said. He said if you talk the waiting time gets longer, so make up your mind! "Oh, it's now gone upto 50 min, what do you want to do"! It was obnoxios, stinking of arrogance and had attitude like he was a Sheikh talking to beggars. We saw another family behind us walk out due to his bad behaviour. I wonder if the owners are aware of this terrible service of the staff. Absolutely disappointing experience, one of the worst places we have visited worldwide. Beware of this s**t place, don't get lured by their marketing.

Overpriced food with a high service charge

Went to Dishoom a few weeks ago.

Overpriced food and naans were like poppadoms and small. At £4.90 each they're not good value and we needed at least 10 for our group. The curries and starters portions were OK but still high prices for what they are.

We spent nearly £400 and the service charge was nearly £50. While I don't have any issues with the service received but I don't think we should pay for this as the staff are paid to do their job !!!

Probably wouldn't go again because of the prices and service charge. You're paying more for the atmosphere and decor than the food.
