Only stress!!! Very bad service!!

In 1 word....only stress!!!!! I will write my review in English so everyone can read it. I have rented a car through Doyouspain.com. In order to prevent I had to pay 950 euro's deposit I took a insurance with doyouspain/alliance.
AFTER I had paid I got a message from doyouspain that this insurance will only go through them and was not refundable anymore. For me no choice then to go to the airport and rent a car, I was send to Dickmanns Alicante. I had to pay the deposit of 950 euro, 98 euro gasoline, 35 euro service costs. After 5 days (!) this amount was taken of my running account!! Not blocked on the credit card but just taken of the account!!
I returned the car washed and in perfect condition, I was promised the money would be returned after 4 weeks. After almost 3 months, I still did not get my money back. Still waiting.........
I always send my clients to doyouspain but will never advice them to go there anymore, also not to Dickmanns....as they are causing a lot of problems, not only for me but for many people!! It has to be stopped!!

avoid this company like the plague or book at your peril

I booked a car hire from alicante airport using a third party agency,also in spain,looking back that was mistake number 1,I should have used an english agency.
Online I booked the fuel `full to full`option and also purchased the `platinum` insurance,(thats a joke in itself,more like brass but not worth as much)
When I went to collect the car the whole office was a shambles with only 2 staff trying to deal with about 12/15 peoples bookings,and they were clearly distressed and under pressure,and so didnt really give a toss.customer service clearly has not reached spain yet.
When asked for my credit card I assumed that they were going to take the fuel deposit ,as I had been told on the phone 3 days earlier by a person I spoke to at the booking agency.Apparently they take the deposit and then refund it when you bring back the car and it is checked by the office staff as full.
At this stage all did appear ok,but then when I returned the car ,full of petrol and checked as so by the office staff and I asked when I would get my deposit back I was then told that the charge was for insurance and not a fuel deposit,and to be quite fair he couldn`t care less and told me to phone the office in the morning.
As I had already booked and paid for the car and the insurance via the agency then I would like to know why it did not show on the computer screen at the car hire office,as ,had it have done so then why would they charge me for more insurance.
I have booked car hire in spain and at alicante airport in the past and I have also paid for the extra insurance to cover all eventualities,but never have I been charged 23.11 € per day for this type of insurance,let alone been charged twice.
Having read the reviews on line about this car hire company,it would appear that I am just another in a long line of dissatisfied customers,in fact I have not seen a satisfied customer yet.complaints about their staff and the way they operate are abundant on line.Clearly the company has no regard for the customer whatsoever,take their money and ignore them is their method of operation it would seem.
I heartly agree with all the other reviewers and advise everyone to avoid this company at all costs or use them at your peril.
To make matters even worse for me I have written 4 emails to the booking agency ,asking them to clarify why I was charged twice for insurance and why it was not shown on the car hire companies computer screen,but needless to say to date I have had no reply ,obviously,nor would I expect to now.
I do fully appreciate that this is spain and so would never expect the same level of customer care as I would expect to get back home,but that said even a small amount of care would be nice.
As we say `pigs might fly!!!!!
Dreadfull companies ,dreadfull service and an expensive lesson has been learnt.
The main lesson I have learnt though is read the reviews first,had I have done so I would never have booked with these companies in the first place,and would not be over 100€ out of pocket.

AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE!

As others have already reported, this company are appalling. Their policy of keeping your €950 for 28 days after you return the car is bad enough, but they don't even refund the money then. Despite numerous calls and emails, I only got my refund processed when my solicitor got involved.

Don't rent from Dickmanns is my advice

As an update to my previous review, I can confirm that Dickmanns policy is out of line with another major rental company in Alicante airport. I recently rented from RECORD and they told me that if I did not take their full insurance then I would be liable for any dents or scratches longer than 2 cm. This is fine by me as that takes into account minor stone chips etc. By contrast, Dickmann confiscated 600 euro of my deposit for a pinhead sized stone chip. I will say again to anyone thinking about renting from Dickmanns that you must take out extra insurance otherwise you will be charged for the most minor of chips or scratches. Better still, don’t rent from Dickmanns.

Stay away from Dickmanns

I am still waiting for a return of 950 euro from a mid February booking. Dickmanns have not responded to emails and I cannot get beyond the receptionist when I call head office. I have now referred this with all the documentation to the Credit card company chargeback section. According to the Credit card company they cannot delist them as customers hand over their card details freely. I don't believe that they would be allowed operate this way in any other European country.

Deposit

Hi all
First time I rent car from Dickmansin Alicante few days ago and everything was really great no issues with car and nice people too. After returning car recieve my complete full fuel deposit and my 950 euros from rental deposit as well after 2 days I return car . Can't complain at all and will rent from this company again by sure. Thank you

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!

The staff are rude, all they want to do is con you out of more money! The fact that all four people in line were having the same argument with them tells it all, all they did was shrug their arrogant shoulders knowing you would pay and take the car anyway! The fact they take money off you and do not refund it for 21 - 28 days is daylight robbery! DO NOT USE THIS arrogant rude company.. you will be far more than disappointed with the service and the fact you WILL have to pay them more money than you think when you arrive, they will not accept any other insurance other than their own so when you take out insurance online when you book the car they will not accept it and make you take out their own anyways!

Very disappointed and will not be using them again or recommending them again.

Problems with the guaranthee of 950€

No problems with the car.
But with the quaranthee(950€).
They promise the refund within 21 to 28 WORKING-days.Buth they don't do that!
E-mails and phone don't help.
After a personel visite to their office,a few mount later,I get back my deposit.
Otherwise I had asked my visacard-company to take back my money of cause of deception.

Dickmmans car hire avoid!!!

Dickmmans car rental are a joke rented Citreon ds3 ended up with fiat panda was told this was the same size car!! Don't think so! Then arriving at the car (it was white)
It had black pen marks highlighting the damage to the body work no effort was made to address this I was told that it had only just come back in, I complained and was told nothing else available so off I went in my graffiti adorned car!! Do not rent from Dickmmans ever!!!

Nearly 14 years of doing good business with Dickmanns Car hire Alicante…

I never normally read bad reviews on any websites, because most are posted by people who cannot spell correctly, so I guess their reviews are fairly inaccurate as well. Just for the record, I have been renting cars from Dickmanns since 2003 at Alicante airport, both the old airport and the new one. On average I rent at least 3 times each year, so I have probably rented at least 40 cars from them in that time. Never once have I been charged more than I expected to pay ( read the small print. No different to other companies). During the years I have often been given a discount or free upgrade without asking. I have found all the team at both Alicante airport and their local office, La Siesta, Torrevieja, very friendly and helpful. I have never been let down at the airport pickup point or the drop off point. I just used them again last week and will bee using them again in May and July this year. I can only say what I have experienced personally. If you read this and want my name and address you are welcome to it.

Avoid this company

Dickmanns do not block your credit card with the deposit amount they charge your credit card with the amount then take a very long time to return it. I have just got mine back (950 euros) having paid the charge at the beginning of December 2016. My credit card company took the case up for me otherwise I may not have been successful. The agency I used was Do You Spain who were unable to help.
The deposit was in fact represented by BBVA with whom Dickmanns have a business relationship but my card service provider blocked this second charge.
Check the deposit procedure before you make your car rental booking. Not all car rental companies behave like this.

Just don't even go there

I hired a car through DoYouSpain and when I arrived I thought the place seemed a bit odd. I took my car and instead of paying four times the rental price for their insurance I paid the deposit of €960. What they don't tell you before you arrive is that if you don't take their insurance you have to pay for the fuel, at about twice the market value.

When I returned the car, they found a scratch on the car which wasn't highlighted when I picked the car up and they said I caused this damage. I hadn't caused it, but they charged me €200. My impression is that when you are collecting the car, you need to photograph every inch because you cannot rely on their walk round with you to highlight damage, I would not be surprised if the same damage has been charged to multiple customers.

The told me that the remainder of my deposit €760 would be returned in 30 days, I eventually got it back after 60 days, which is better than some other peoples experiences, but only after a considerable amount of time telephoning the company, and doyouspain, and emailing to chase the money.

When I was in Spain I did google Dickmanns to get their address to return the car, I was horrified to see all of the bad reviews for the company.

When I returned the car, I asked the staff if they make their money on inflating damages, because I know I didn't cause the damage to the car, which they denied, and I said there are a lot of reviews on the internet, the staff member said 'you will only find bad reviews because customers who are happy don't post reviews', if that were the case no company would have any good reviews.

The staff are not very friendly when you collect a car, let alone when you drop one off, I found them to be quite rude.

I will never use Dickmanns Rentacar again and would strongly advise anyone who is attracted by their low prices to look at a more reputable company, you end up paying a higher price than their quotes one way or another anyway.

Without consent! It is unbelievable that such a company has been going on for years with these fraudulous actions

Never hire with them! Still fighting for the deposit. The situation is the same as with other customers.
It is a scam.

Do Not Use Dickmanns

Hired a car in June 2016. As others have said, very cheap, but they do the hard sell on Insurance and also hang on to your deposit for as long as possible before returning it. Not ideal, but nothing dodgy yet...however 6 months later I had another debit on my account from Dickmanns for 58 euros from a different office from the one I originally hired from ! I've disputed this obviously and got a refund from my Bank but Dickmanns are obviously doing something very shady with peoples credit card details. I would never use them again.

Awful company

Avoid this company at all costs. We've hire cars from the airport on a number of occasions, we have our own insurance so always use our credit card for the hire company to hold an amount usually 950 euros. Which is always returned within a day or two, after dropping the vehicle off undamaged.
But not with Dickmanns, they were quite determined that we take their insurance (very expensive). Because we didn't, we were told about the deposit and they would not pay it back for 28 days, I said OK no problem and they said plus another 8 days. I assume that's because they don't include weekends as business days. We returned the car on the 30th December and have just had the deposit repaid after more than 60 days and a number of emails, all with more or less the same reply, we have passed it onto accounts and apologizes.

Go to ANYONE else but these !

As l travel to Spain regularly l have an annual excess insurance so l am used to having to put a large hold on my credit card WHILST I AM RENTING but everyone else removes it when the car is returned. Not Dickmanns.
Still awaiting refund of a 950€ deposit 2 months later !! Plus offices are always off site.

Some Do's and Don't's

These comments are based on my recent experience of hiring a car from Dickmanns at Alicante Airport through DoYouSpain:-
- Do read the small print. Then read it again... and again.
- Do be aware that whereas most hire companies simply put a block on your credit card for the deposit, Dickmanns will take it. And do be aware it'll take them 21 to 28 working days to refund it.
- Do realise that the exchange rate Dickmanns use to take the deposit is different to the one they use to refund it. This meant that on my deposit of €950, I was initially charged £17.18 more than the refund I eventually received. And on the same basis I was further out of pocket on the refund for the €98 initially charged for fuel ( I'd used the pick up full : return full option). This unexpected and significant additional cost looks to me like a deliberate additional earner for Dickmanns.
- Do realise, if you're worried about getting your refund, that if you decide to telephone Dickmanns, you may be either hung up on or answered by someone who speaks English but is as rude as has been described in other feedback. Customer relations is clearly not a priority for Dickmanns!
- Don't lose any of the paperwork.You’ll need it for any grievance. In my case, pursuing the return of my deposit and getting no response from Dickmanns, I contacted DoYouSpain, the company I had booked the car through. They were very understanding. (It’s a familiar story for them!) I’mpleased to say that because of their help, my €950 ( less that £17.18!) is now back into my credit card account.

Unlike Dickmanns, I've had no problems with DoYouSpain. I'd use them again. But first I'd make sure that I was hiring a car from a company that blocked rather than took money from my account. And I'd read all the small print; again and again. And one last point, I'd check the lcation of where I'd be picking up and returning the car. It has to be said that Dickmanns at Alicante Airport is not the easiest place to find
