!!!Avoid dangerous bikes for hire!!!
!!!Avoid dangerous bikes for hire!!!
I hired a Silex bike for a gravel race. Initial communication and booking the bike was straightforward. Arrived at the shop to be presented with a bike covered dirt and with the drivetrain covered in mud/gunk. I was informed that I should give the bike a good checking over for frame damage as I will be charged for anything outwith a stone chip…….bit difficult to do given the bike was so dirty. I took the bike home and checked over the bike at the first available time which was the evening. After scraping the dirt of drivetrain and giving it a clean it was obvious at this point the bike had not seen any lubrication let alone a service in quite sometime. I should have called the shop in the morning but given that I was racing in the morning with friends I didn’t want miss out and assumed that it was just a case of the shop being a bit busy to prepare the bike correctly.
We started the race in the morning and all was well. After the first 20k the front brake started to fail, I had to pull the lever further and further back every time I had to break. After another 20k or so the brake was useless, even if I pulled the level to the bars it didn’t do anything………..one final pull and the front caliper failed. Upon inspection the front pad was worn to the metal. The event mechanicals didn’t carry spares (circular pads) and informed me that I could not continue the race and I was sent back to HQ……….it would be an understatement to say that I was disappointed.
Took the bike back to the shop the next day where I explained my issues to the staff (Richie) and to my amazement I was met with nothing but obnoxious and belittling replies. As far as they were concerned the bike had left the shop in perfect working order and that was as far as their duty of care went.
When I asked Richie when the pads were checked he commented “I don’t need to tell you that”,
I ask him before hire bikes go out what checks do they go through, is there a checklist, etc they he replied “I don’t need to tell you that, I’m satisfied the bike was checked”. At this point he started to find the issue funny by commenting that his mum could do a better job at fixing the brake implying that there was no issue with the pads and that the two onsite event mechanicals who checked over the bike (and had shown me the worn pads) were wrong. When I replied if it was so easy to fix the brake perhaps he could fix it now to alleviate my concerns he replied “I don’t need to do that for you”.
I finally asked Richie to pop out the front pads so that he could satisfy himself that they were fine and so that I could take a picture of their condition he replied “I don’t need to do that for you”. He was obviously concerned that I would share the images.
All in all a thoroughly disgusting way to treat a customer who had expressed concerns about safety. At no point did I feel that they took my concerns seriously.
If you value your safety I’d steer clear of Cyclelane.
I bought a second-hand Kona Rove 2023…
I bought a second-hand Kona Rove 2023 from cyclelane and I am really pleased with the bike. There was a few minor scuffs, which you would expect but otherwise the bike was in near mint condition. The bike came already assembled with the pedals and came really well packaged. The staff were really knowledgeable and extremely helpful, I highly recommend them
Cyclelane are excellent!
Cyclelane were very helpful in resetting and updating the firmware on my e-bike. They’re knowledgeable and friendly and I’d certainly recommend them to anyone looking for a good cycle shop in the Glasgow area.
Service Above And Beyond
I took my bike in for some repairs to the gears and got a great job done, some fine-tuning later as the parts bedded in, and help with a number of other things I asked about.
They are busy, but clearly can’t bear to let a bike out of the shop in anything less than great condition.
Rear MTB requiring new spokes
Had an issue with rear MTB needing new spoke contacted 2 well known cycle shops who told me to source spokes myself. Called in at Cyclelane and spoke to Ritchie who sourced the spoke and fixed the wheel.
Very helpful great job at a competitive price. Will certainly use again.
Cheeky, condescending and on a power trip
Sadly can't rate it zero stars. I was picking a bike up for my brother and the guy had no idea which is fair enough. I named my brother and the bike and still wasn't happy which again is fair enough. I said I would call him and he never believed me which again fair enough.i then said I would get my brother to call the shop and while making the call he was in my ear still trying to make his point to which I already agreed. He kept pressing me and was trying very hard to make me aware of his point. This continued and he was very pressing and also condescending in the way he was talking to me. I asked him what his problem was and why he kept pushing me when I was trying to.make a phone call and was not even speaking with him. He then told me "forget it pal you are not getting the bike for the cheek" I was very confused as to which cheek he was going on about as I was not engaging with him. He was clearly on a power trip and I do have bikes myself so I am aware of the process but I never use this shop and I will never plan on using it. I have seen other reviews about this guy on here and it all makes sense. The guy needs a career change as he doesn't know how to speak with people.
Excellent 👍
Excellent service from first encounter. Richy was knowledgable with a fantastic manner and he’s the reason I bought my new Orbea vibe from cyclelane.
I was kept up to date with the delivery by John and I will not hesitate to go back to the shop for servicing 😀
Really helpful and friendly
The guys in the shop are great - really helpful and friendly. They are more than happy to explain any issues and tell you prices for things upfront (and it's a reasonable rate). Speedy work too. Definitely recommend these lot

Great bike shop with great staff
The staff were very helpful in arranging a time and day for my bike to be delivered. My bike was very well packaged when it arrived. Overall it was great experience purchasing a bike from Cyclelane, would recommend.
Wouldn't hesitate to use CycleLane again.
Efficient and timely updates of order progress and dispatch. Prompt delivery when promised. We ordered a kids bike and it came boxed within an adult sized bike box with its original box chopped up and inserted in the bigger box for added proteciton in transit.
Wouldn't hesitate to use CycleLane again.

Mountain Bike Purchase and Service
Friend and I bought two mountain bikes from John at Cyclelane last year-basically for accessing Scottish munros-and took them in for an annual service a couple of weeks ago.
Took John's advice when purchasing the bikes - what we needed without going over the top, accessories etc. Top notch advice - bikes proved excellent in enabling us to reach some of Scotland's remotest mountains last summer on very lengthy days.
Annual service appropriately priced and efficiently done by the boys in the workshop. Good humour also in abundance.
Friend's wife's hybrid bike also refurbished on same visit - excellent job at sensible price.
One needs a robust and direct approach to life to fully delve into John's wide knowledge and experience - which was a rewarding experience for us.
Highly recommended.
Excellent service. Great bike. And in stock.
Really helpful and ensured I got the right size even though the bike was being delivered. Lots of correspondence and help with this. Great orbea gravel bike

2 x cuda trace 14” - excellent little business
I ordered the kids bikes from cyclelane in the lead up to Christmas, and even though it was done online the staff were extremely friendly and helpful via email. The bikes were well package and delivery was well coordinated. Would definitely order from them again.

They are attentive and couldn’t do any more to help. The bike was packed very carefully and arrived in perfect condition.
Many thanks
Reliable online trader
Does seem that there’s quite a few dodgy outlets out there for kids’ bikes, which I was keen to steer clear of - my daughter’s bike arrived really quickly and as advertised. She’s learning to ride it and clearly proud of bike and wants to show it off.

Bought a Orbea MX 16 for my 4 year olds grandsons Christmas .Ordered this online in the evening and the next morning I got a phone call from Cyclelane to say they could make it up and I could pick it up early afternoon .The service was second to none ,plus my grandson just loves riding about on his new bike .
