I decided to try out a set of the Rode Wireless PRO Premium Wireless Microphone System having seen them being used several times on a popular online video file sharing service. Our proposed use for them would typically be for an academic discussion between two people on a small stage area in an equally small theatre during which, up till now, table mics have been used to pick up the audio of the interviewer and interviewee, but annoyingly this has always included the sound of books and historical items being picked up and put down as well as glasses of pure spring water etc. which invariably creates problems when using the table mics. Close micing using wired lav mics is very often not a realistic option for various reasons. However, using the two Rode Wireless PRO transmitters for each of the participants at a recent event was just so much easier in many ways. As is the way nowadays, the event was being live streamed as well, and the whole system worked faultlessly. I had the table mics on mute in case the Rode wifi system started to drop out, but in the event there was not a single event of signal loss (duration: one hour & seven minutes). Also, this is in an environment where there are many other wifi networks in operation. The Rode receiver was inputed to an audio mixer with the "headphone" setting selected (line level I think) and the audio quality sounded very good to me. Also, there seemed to be less of a drop off in signal level as the speakers turned their heads away from the mic than seemed using our more traditional wired lav mic set ups. This was using the Rode Tx units clipped to a jacket pocket and a scarf respectively without the dead cats etc. I feel very confident about using this kit again. Thank you CVP.
