I absolutely loved my visit, my ride, the horses, the staff and everything about this place.
I wanted to come last year for my birthday on a whim but these guys are busy and the stars didn't align, but a few months later I made it and it was worth the wait.
Annie called me and we had a natter about my ability and my friends and she sorted us out with a fantastic experience. I'd love to have met Annie but I did see her briefly on the yard, she does a fantastic job.
I won't accept any shit reviews about this place because these people care about the horses, their staff and the people who visit provided they are polite, reasonable and HONEST about their ability. I've read a few bad reviews from in my opinion... Idiots who have no clue and probably overestimate themselves in their ability.
These are big horses and very powerful. I did a few canters alongside Amy and my friend and Amy is absolutely awesome as an instructor, I went away thinking I wasn't as bad a rider as I thought. Our horses had a bit of a moment and mine decided to turn tail and take me on an unscheduled canter in the opposite direction, they are not naughty horses though and it was nothing dramatic, I was actually a bit pleased about it but I'm definitely a lunatic like that.
I'm coming back for the beach ride, I would spend days riding at that place if I could. I am thrilled and would give this place 6 stars if I could. No lead rein plodders here and no bullshit either. Just don't bring yours and you'll be fine.
Great experience on an amazing day. I was well looked after and never felt nervous despite riding Arthur, an 18.1, 6 year old Clydesdale!
Superb location with amazing views. Horses well cared for and a great breeding programme running alongside the trecking to try and take some of these noble, gracious heavy horses off the endangered list.
The centre can provide hats, boots, gloves and leg protectors so (with a prior booking) you can rock up (in clothing suitable for the day) and be confident that safety gear will be provided.
A fantastic day. Thank you.
Our experience was fantastic! Peter, our guide, was exceptional, offering lots of encouragement and demonstrating incredible patience. While my wife had some horse riding experience, I was a complete beginner. However, there was no need for me to worry because they selected horses for us based on our skills. Charlie, my horse, was ideal for me—an absolute gem. Despite my initial nerves, he was a calm and gentle giant, standing 17 hands tall, and as an experienced horse, he seemed to handle everything with ease. My wife rode Emma, a more spirited 18-hand horse, which matched her perfectly. Peter accompanied us throughout, sharing his unmatched knowledge and being wonderful company. Overall, it was a wonderful time filled with cherished memories, captured in a beautiful photo of us on the horses displayed on our sideboard. We also gained a friend in Peter. Thank you, Brian and Claire.
I cant rate the riding experience itself as I never had it. Although the service has been terrible. Initial ride cancelled due to bad weather - we agreed to rebook but then unfortunately I fell ill and haven't been able to ride. I reached out several times to signpost this, asking for a refund or extension but was met with silence. Apparently emailing them isn't good enough (not sure how a business doesn't read them or even why they have an email address if they're not using it). £250 of my partners money wasted (he bought me this as a gift). When I did get a response I have been told 'refer to T&C's' and advised there's nothing they can do.

Such an amazing experience - beautiful horses and very friendly, helpful staff. Our guide (Peter) was very knowledgeable about the horses, the landscape and the history of the area. Although the wet, windy weather prevented us from doing the fell ride that we had booked, we enjoyed a long hack through the narrow lanes, with views across farmland, the fells and the Duddon estuary. The horses were amazing - gentle giants with individual personalities. We felt safe, despite them being 18 hands! I’d thoroughly recommend the experience for people of all riding abilities and look forward to going back to do the fells or a beach ride.
We had a brilliant time.Peter our guide was great giving us plenty of encouragement and very patient.
My wife had some experience with horses but l was a complete novice.
I need have not worried as the horses were chosen for us personally based on our abilities. Charlie my horse was perfect for me bless him he was very patient and although l was at first scared he was a gentle giant 17 hands and l think as an experienced horse he knew how to take things literally in his stride with someone like me.My wife had Emma 18 hands a bit more spirited which suited her perfectly.Peter was with us every step of the way his knowledge is second to none and great company to be with. All in all we a fabulous time new fond memories a beautiful picture on our sideboard of us on the horses and a friend in Peter.Thank you.
Brian and Claire.
We just can’t review this experience highly enough! Brought by my lovely friends Sophie and Tim for my 60th birthday present this completely blew my mind !! The horses are outstanding, beautiful and huge and so loved and well looked after. The staff are amazing above and beyond their title. Professional, safe, caring and mos importantly real fun. You are evaluated on the beach, given tasks to make sure you are safe and then you just have a blast on the beach. Kirsty you are worth your weight in gold! Your professional, fun, caring and firm and that gives your customers reassurance, confidence, respect and hell the best fun beach ride ever. As a business owner I know how rare staff line you are to find. Thank you for giving it your all so patiently. If this is on your bucket list DO IT NOW!
This was only my second ride at the school and it was given to me as a birthday present. Vicky was our lead out rider of a group of 4 in total. It was my first fell ride which lasted a good 2.5 hours. Vicky is an experienced rider who made us feel comfortable no matter what level you were. She explained what would be happening, gave the more advanced riders the chance to canter but still had the horses welfare in mind since it was a very warm sunny day. She knew the area well so could point out the lay of the land. The horses were well cared for, obedient and beautiful.
I would highly recommend the stables for their unique riding experiences.
We had a great day at Cumbria,Heavy Horses. Our guide Simone was just lovely, she made sure we were safe but have us plenty of opportunities to trot and canter. I rode a Clydesdale and my sister and husband a Shore horses. It was lovely to see the mares and goals in mares conservation breeding program. Simone was very knowledgeable about the area and made us feel welcome and special. I'm definitely going back.
