Been a member for 4 years
Been a member for 4 years. I’ve emailed and spoke with people at front desk about an issue membership issue I’m having. A manager is supposedly going to reach out to me but never has. My emails have not been responded to either. This company is a waste of money
Crunch Fitness on McKnight Road…
Crunch Fitness on McKnight Road Pittsburgh is a sham that exploits their members. My son signed up during a promotion of 4 cents for a one month membership - he thought it was just to give it a try. He realized that he was not going to be able to work out regularly. So, within the first month, he tried to cancel. They told him he had to be a member for 60 days to cancel. So, after 60 days, he went to cancel, and they told him that he had to put in writing that he wanted to cancel, but he was still obligated for another 30 days. In those 30 days, they charged him an annual fee, plus the monthly fee, plus a service charge, plus a late fee because HE DID NOT WANT TO BE A MEMBER THERE ANY MORE. He only used the gym one time! After getting the Better Business Bureau and the State Attorney General involved - they waived all fees and let him quit. You should not have to bully a gym into quitting. THEY ARE A HORRIBLE ORGANIZATION. In addition, they are violating laws set up to protect consumers from exploitation. I highly recommend filing a complaint with the Attorney General of New York where their headquarters are based.
OPEN LETTER TO CRUNCH FITNESS APOLLO…
OPEN LETTER TO CRUNCH FITNESS APOLLO BEACH: YOUR PREDATORY CANCELLATION PRACTICES MUST STOP
To the management of Crunch Fitness Apollo Beach and Crunch Corporate Headquarters,
I am writing to formally call out what I — and many others — see as an unfair, predatory, and potentially unlawful cancellation process being enforced at your Apollo Beach location.
After being charged $160, I attempted to cancel my membership. Instead of assistance, I was told I would have to pay another $160 just to stop the billing, or — and I quote — “go to collections if you don’t like it.” This hostile response, paired with a lack of accessible support, is not just unprofessional — it may violate consumer protection laws at both the state and federal level.

Predatory personal training tactics
I will never interact with a corporate gym ever again based on dealing with Crunch. When you sign up and go in for the first time, they strongarm you into talking with a personal trainer. I was set with someone named Kahyman in Tulsa. Seemed nice, real friendly. Got to the sales pitch bit and I was very very clear that I didn't have the money for an ongoing personal training, but I'd be willing to pay $150 for two individual classes. With that, I'd be able to get a feel for what to do and then move forward on my own. I was assured that that was absolutely possible, don't worry, just sign here.
I was stupid. I trusted him. Like someone else who commented, he signed me up for a never ending commitment to personal training, taking money I don't really have.
I tried calling the gym, and was told that the personal trainer manager would call me back. Waited a few hours, and decided to go up there. Who comes sauntering over but Kahyman. I explain the issue, and instead of customer service I was immediately met with nothing but gaslighting. Telling me they actually only have ongoing options, there is no single classes option. This man looked me in my face (sometimes) and told me that he didn't lie, he doesn't know what I was talking about. Super fun that he gets to make commission off of me by shady practices. He was condescending, and when I told him I wasn't sure how I was going to pay he told me "guess we'll just send you to collections then" which was funny later when he said "I wish you could see what's in my heart".
His fix? Waiving the $300 fee I apparently would have owed to cancel my eternal personal training contract. Which I'll be honest, isn't in the contract anywhere. So just more lying.
They don't care about you here. They want your money and that's the end of it. I immediately went to the desk and cancelled not only any sort of personal training, but my entire membership as well. Supposedly Kahyman was going to email me all the information about things being cancelled, but that hasn't happened. The corporate number doesn't work, managers at the gym are too busy for calls and I'm just out money with no services rendered. It's a very predatory business model. Please don't do it.
Horrible customer service as should be…
Horrible customer service as should be expected with a private equity model! Also the trainers are a scam! They sign you up for a never ending program without making it clear! When I expressed dissatisfaction I was kicked out for being negative! The assist manager of the training department who kicked me out also started harassing me and as a result they cancelled my membership! Beware doing business with them is at your own peril!
Crunch fitness hae great equipment to…
Crunch fitness hae great equipment to get you right but they lie/scam about the prices my membership cost 34.95 but they pull 49.19 out my account and they charge a annual fee of 60.00 after the 2nd month ok they say after 2nd month it suppose to be month to month with strings attached then I go and try to cancel my membership they say I have to pay for a month to cancel that crazy
Location kept charging me after I requested my membership not be renewed
I signed up for a membership, it was a year contract with a reduced monthly rate. I called before the year was up and requested it be cancelled. The employee informed me that I had to pay the remaining few months and then they would not renew it as per my request. I had also emailed they location to request a cancellation. They told me that they would do this and then they charged me for a new membership, fees and continued to take money out of my account monthly.
I was in school at the time and was not aware of this money coming out/didn't realize, and I thought that I had already cancelled it so wasn't expecting the payments. I had moved away and therefore couldn't go into the gym.
When I realized this had been happening I called and spoke to someone who told me that they didn't cancel it because I talked to someone on the phone and that I "had to physically come into the specific location to cancel". This was physically impossible as I had moved away, which is why I called in the first place. They then charged me again for the next month and told me that I couldn't get a refund. They then decided to cancel my membership over the phone, even though according to them they didn't do it in the first place because I cancelled it over the phone. The fact that they would require you to cancel in person isn't right, and is something I have never encountered with a business.
I looked at my original contract and it states that they will cancel it if you request it 30 days before your contract is up, which is what I did.
The employees were very unhelpful and argumentative and it was difficult to get any response to emails. There is no way of contacting anyone in the financial/billing department or anyone higher up.
This whole situation was very stressful and seems really shady. I wonder how often they do this to people. I still want a refund.
Professional Review of Crunch Fitness &…
Professional Review of Crunch Fitness & JEM Wellness Brands – A Deeply Disappointing Experience
I feel compelled to share my recent and profoundly disappointing experience with Crunch Fitness and its operating partner, JEM Wellness Brands, specifically regarding the recruitment process for the General Manager position at the new Crunch location in Tracy, California.
I have worked in the fitness industry for nearly 30 years, and I can say without hesitation that I have never encountered such a disorganized, misleading, and unprofessional hiring process. Over the span of more than a month, I completed a total of eight interviews, passing through each stage successfully and receiving positive feedback from every team member I spoke with.
However, the process was repeatedly stalled and mishandled—almost entirely due to the erratic and dismissive communication style of Amber Martinez, the brand president and operating partner at JEM Wellness Brands. Despite receiving encouraging feedback from her and her team, my experience quickly shifted from hopeful to disheartening.
My initial phone interview with Amber (which was downgraded from a scheduled Zoom meeting) ended on a high note, with Amber stating that I would “definitely hear back within 48 hours.” That promise was broken. I sent a courteous follow-up email the next day—no reply. Three days later, still nothing. I reached out again and again, only to be met with silence or dismissive replies. When she did respond (often days or weeks late), her tone was passive-aggressive and often made me feel as though I was at fault for expecting professional follow-through on clear commitments.
Worse still, she later denied having told me I would hear back within 48 hours and deflected accountability by implying that I had misunderstood her. This repeated gaslighting, alongside the forced optimism from her team (who appeared hesitant to speak candidly or act without Amber’s direction), painted a very troubling picture of the leadership culture at JEM Wellness Brands.
What was especially disconcerting was the hollow use of motivational language and company values like “no judgments” and “people first,” which stood in stark contrast to how I was treated. There is something deeply unsettling about using wellness rhetoric and inclusive mantras as a shield for manipulative and unprofessional behavior.
Ultimately, I was told that one of the deciding factors against my candidacy was my preference for the Tracy location—the very location this job was listed for. That kind of bait-and-switch further demonstrates a lack of transparency and integrity in this organization.
To prospective employees and potential members: I urge you to proceed with caution. Beneath the polished branding lies a culture that does not reflect the values it claims to uphold. If you are considering applying to work for Crunch or signing up as a member, I strongly recommend you explore alternatives. There are many other fitness organizations that genuinely value people, honor commitments, and foster positive, supportive environments—without the smoke and mirrors.
This experience was not just a waste of time—it was a sobering reminder of how far certain companies are willing to go to present a curated image that crumbles under scrutiny.
Final Thoughts:
Avoid Crunch Fitness and JEM Wellness Brands if you’re looking for integrity, transparency, and professionalism. There are far better fitness brands led by people who actually walk the talk.
I visited the location in sunrise
I visited the location in sunrise, Florida and first of all the music is so loud you could barely understand each other inside the gym regardless if you’re using your headphones, I like the fact that their machines are pretty to you, but in the afternoon this gym is super packed and no machines available
Flawed
The machines could be cleaner. Somebody could clean the chewing gum out of the urinals. And most importantly, the East Lansing branch should open when it's supposed to. If the staffer can't make it, there should be at least one back-up person. I've driven over too many times in the morning to find it closed when it should be open.
Crunch Fitness is a Complete Rip Off!!!
To start off, I'm trying to reduce my budget each month, so I'm cutting costs where I can. I joined Crunch Fitness here in El Paso, Texas over a year ago. When you join you have to pay the initiation fee of (I believe) $75 - honestly, I can't remember exactly, but it's in that range. I have a membership that costs me around $26 a month (this includes certain classes onsite, etc.). I was going a few days a week but now I only go around once a week (if that) due to time constraints. I went into Crunch Fitness today at 9155 Dyer in El Paso, Texas to reduce my membership to the basic ($10 a month) - so I'm saving $16 a month. They told me that in order to do this I would have to sign a contract and pay a fee of $75! Seriously? To reduce my membership I have to pay a fee? I then asked about doing the $18 (or so) a month membership. They said fine, you don't have to pay an initiation fee but you still need to pay $40! What? I asked them to then cancel my membership completely because my next payment isn't for another week or so. No can do, they said. We will still charge you for this because it's not 30 days out, but you have access to the gym for another month. I was so livid I told them not to touch anything, that I was going to call the corporate office to complain. How is it ok for this company to nickel and dime people when we are just trying to save money? It isn't fair that so many companies have accepted this as a good policy. It should be illegal! This company is the worst! I have decided to just start walking and working out at home. Thing is, they don't care about their customers, it's all about the $$$.
Charged $220 with no info on on why months after membership cancelled.
My wife was a member. They overcharged the monthly fees for 2 years due to payment method. She finally pointed it out to them & they agreed to apply to over charge to future fees instead of refunding. She decided to quit in Feb and got a confirmation from the manager. Yet in April they charged the credit Card $220 without any notfication at all about what the charge is for. We are disputing it. But this company is run by crooks.
Toxic
Never before, in my 20 years of enjoying health club memberships, have i come across a gym culture so dedicated to toxicity. There’s a gross kind of sadness to witnessing grown adults orchestrate obstructions to health goals rather than supporting them. Destroys all motivation because you don’t even want to be in the same room as such people. 10/10 on the ick factor.
Very bad experience
Very bad experience. When I went dere first time then they were offering me we have membership in 10 dollars but if u want to discontinue u have to pay 80 dollars they cut from my account 171 dollars when I called them we can’t do anything as a late fee they charged 90 .
Crunch harasses their members
If you try to suspend your account, they will ignore the request and charge you anyways. Then, when you report those charges as fraudulent, they will hand your account over to a collection agency who will threaten to hurt your credit score all because Crunch failed to suspend the account as requested. This means, instead of just suspending the account, Crunch is wasting members enrollment fees on other agencies to threaten their members, instead of putting that money towards their business to make themselves a better business and a better gym. Crunch is a horrible gym to do business with. Please, look elsewhere and invest in a gym that cares about you.
Beware
I have been a member since before it opened in Parrish Florida approximately 3 years ago
I recently purchased a 3 month training package
Halfway through I was unhappy but I I knew I had signed a contract
I told my trainer I was willing to have the rest of payments taken out but I was done with the training due to their lack of integrity ( in my opinion)
I said I was happy to pay and not use but I wanted to cancel immediately since other members said it’s difficult to cancel due to the way they do business
They were right. My trainer said I could not cancel until a small window before 3 months was up
So I continued since they wouldn’t cancel which was the reason I was willing to pay and not use. I JUSTED WANTED TO BE SURE I WOULDNT HAVE TO PAY BEYOND 3 Months but since they wouldn’t cancel I chose to use package.
I would constantly ask my trainer when I could cancel finally she said next week
When I went to cancel I found out I could have cancelled 2 weeks earlier but I missed the date so They would deduct another double payment
Because I missed deadline and they need 10 day notice
A manager listened to me and said he would try” to trick system “ so it would t take another deduction from my bank account and if it didn’t work he would give a refund
I waited and watched another 100 plus coming out of my checking account a week later
Management has refused to give refund and they have told my former trainer to stop talking to me since I said I was going to Florida AG office of Consumer affairs and BBB
I pray they dont keep taking the money out
I am 64 years old and 100 dollars is a lot for services I will never use and did not want
If Crunch cares I m sure they can find the tape of me talking to the manager
Beware
Dave McCray
EASY CANCELLATION IS A LIE
I have tried cancelling my membership with Crunch Fitness for months! I do not live in the same town anymore and they will not accept my email as a cancellation. They said I have to come in or mail a letter. What proof do I have from mailing in a letter? My email should be proof enough. I ended up blocking their charges with my credit card and they have now have a debt collector trying to get $76 dollars from me. WHAT A RIP OFF!
Don’t workout at crunch fitness. They won’t let me cancel.
Crunch has taken all of my money. I moved away from Tuscaloosa, AL 3 years ago, when I got home I tried canceling my membership because I didn’t know it was either in person or by letter at the time.
I try to speak to managers 1 x a week and the workers at Tuscaloosa either would answer, or when asked to speak with manager about cancellation they’d say to mail in a letter.
I MAILED IN THE LETTER, not once but twice, and how convenient that they said I didn’t right before my annual fee came out. IVE SENT ANOTHER LETTER SINCE AND STILL GOT CHARGED THIS MONTH, but when I call the place THEY NEVER ANSWER OR MANAGER ISNT THERE. TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA. DO NOT WORK OUT HERE. THEY ARE STILL TAKING MY MONEY, and I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING.
