Creworks 9x24 brushless lathe
Right out of the crate and onto the bench, the lathe was making excessive noise. I assumed it was just break-in noise. After a short run time, something sounded like it shred out. I pulled the gear/belt cover and found the auto-feed idler gear that turns the auto-feed gearset was toothless. I wasn't even using auto-feed.
Gear destructed due to a 1/8" misalignment between the spindle gear and the auto-feed idler. This misalignment was also causing the belt noise. I fabricated a 1/8" shim to correct the alignment problem which fixed that and ended the belt noise.
However, when installing my shim washer, I found that the auto-feed gearset was siezed. Now I have to troubleshoot that problem as well.
Seller has been great and is getting me replacement parts from the Chinese company. But I do not have anything good to say about Creworks lathes.
I had to align the cross-feed because it wasnt parallel with the bed and was cutting with a taper.
The safety shield is worthless because it only extends out to the end of the chuck. The part is normally further out than the chuck, so I have to wear eye protection when using the lathe. I will have to make a longer rod to allow the shield to extend out over the part being turned.
The 3 jaw chuck jaw pieces arent true to rotation. To get a part to indicate in, concentric to the spindle, I had to turn the jaw faces, and perpendicular faces first on each opening so that the jaws are true.
Now parts will indicate in good, but you shouldn't have to machine the jaws before you can turn a piece in them. All jaws (both inside and outside) weren't concentric to spindle at all steps. I had to machine all the steps on all 6 jaws. Just pure crap!
