Stevie was great at teaching her craft

Stevie was great at teaching her craft. We had time to make 3 pieces of jewellery each. It was a lovely small group (4 of us) so we could all get the help we each needed. Stevie is obviously well experienced and knowledgeable and had tons of glass options to choose from for the craft session.
The only slight downside was the temperature in the studio - it was very cold! She did try to keep us warm with some heaters but the temperature was so low outside that it was hard to warm up the inside.
I would definitely recommend choosing a course with Stevie - well worth the money and very enjoyable.

Thank you so much for this wonderful review, very pleased you had a great time on Stevie's course. So sorry about the temperature, it was indeed cold that day but we will see what more can be done about keeping the workshop warmer. Thank you for the recommendation, we really appreciate it.

Excellent communication, service and experience!

I have hosted my workshops with CraftCourses for nearly 6 years and am delighted with the platform. The website itself is straightforward to use; they have excellent communication and create a very supportive atmosphere. They support their artists in a variety of different ways and it’s a pleasure to be able to work with them.

Poor communication and untruths.

Booking was made but course was full as it is listed on multiple sites.
At rearranged booking the venue said 'sorry we are closed'. No listing shown for the course on that day. No reply to phone number on billboard. No number supplied to call the organiser. Returned home and asked for a refund which the organiser has so far refused.
CraftCourses has said that I was rude. To be clear, when informed that there was no record of my call on the call log I said this was an untruth (not a 'lie'). When the call logs showed that I had in fact called they retracted their statement and admitted that I had tried to call but that the call had been put into 'do not disturb' mode. I do not consider it rude to point out an untruth.
Thanks to TrustPilot the organiser has given a refund after, and not before, my comments on here.

Update: I asked Craftcourses to describe how I had been rude. They have changed their reply to remove that statement. Instead they say I was not happy with the website. This because I got a confirmed booking only to be told the course was full. There is no way to rectify this on their website and I had to guess the email address of the tutor and deal with her instead.
The front door said "Sorry we are closed"
The phone number was on voicemail.
The course was not listed on that day
I waited 20 minutes and saw nobody

We’re sorry to read this review and that, despite considerable efforts by both CraftCourses and the independent course tutor, this experience was clearly frustrating. The course was gifted to the attendee via our third-party booking platform. From the outset, digital communication proved challenging, as the attendee was unhappy to engage via the booking system and its automated communications. While we understand this can feel frustrating, particularly when a course is received as a gift, these systems are in place to protect both students and independent course providers and to ensure clear, consistent communication for everyone involved. When the original booking date became unavailable, the tutor immediately apologised and offered a full refund or a choice of alternative dates. While communication became challenging due to the attendee’s frustration, the tutor continued to engage professionally and worked to reach a resolution. A new date was agreed and confirmed, and updated booking confirmation and reminder emails were issued as standard. On the rescheduled date, the workshop ran as planned. The tutor was present in the building, along with other residents. All other attendees arrived and participated by following the access instructions provided at booking, which asked guests to ring the doorbell or knock on arrival. We understand that this attendee did not follow these instructions and instead attempted to contact a venue phone number displayed externally, which had not been provided by the tutor and was temporarily unavailable due to a third-party setting, as the venue is shared by multiple residents. Had the attendee followed the access instructions or contacted the tutor via the original communication methods, they would have been able to enter the building like all other attendees that day. This independent course tutor has been registered with CraftCourses for over five years, holds a Gold Students’ Choice Award, and has consistently received excellent feedback. The refund was not refused and was processed at the earliest opportunity on the next working day, in line with our standard procedures. It was ultimately issued as a goodwill gesture, as the course ran as scheduled. The course tutor did their best to provide reassurance regarding the refund process; however, communication from the attendee became increasingly difficult. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify what happened and hope it is clear that, throughout this booking, both the independent course tutor and CraftCourses made every reasonable effort to communicate clearly and reach a fair resolution in response to the attendee’s repeated frustrations.

Very enjoyable day

Very enjoyable day with a friendly, knowledgeable tutor who encouraged us to experiment with colours and textures. I was an absolute beginner but produced a wall hanging that I was really pleased with.

was an evening session

was an evening session, and I arrived a little early. The teacher welcomed me very warmly, which immediately made me feel comfortable.
I attended the session to learn candle making, and the teacher was extremely patient, explaining even the smallest details with great clarity. I was guided through every step, but I got to do everything myself, which made the experience very satisfying.
Choosing my own essential oil for the candle was especially fun—it made the whole process exciting and enjoyable.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience and for guiding me so thoughtfully for the future.

There are only positive things to say…

There are only positive things to say about this course. Firstly, Thanks to David for being so welcoming. This course is very well structured, has a great balance of theory and practical sections. The content is given professionally but the approach is very easy going, considerate, and supportive. Any and all questioned were answered at the perfect pace for learning a new skill. Everything was communicated promptly and effectively without deviating or 'fluff to fill time', everything discussed and shown has purpose leading in a clear and specific direction. THIS is the course you need if you want to know how to spray paint properly and understand how/why all the necessary elements/components work. I went in a complete novice to being confident in my approach when finished, with only my ability holding me back, in one day! all I need do now is practice and with anything worth while doing this takes time but feel more than able to do this on my own now. Having said that, I received a complete pack of the content covered to refer back to, and also David's contact should I ever get stuck. You couldn't want for more.

Inspiring course

Maria was so lovely and welcoming. We learnt a lot about using resin and she gave us useful notes to take away. My daughter and I really enjoyed the course and it has made us excited to try it ourselves.

As an amateur

As an amateur, I found the course very informative and gained real practical understanding on several different joinery methods including the bridle joint to the half blind dovetail.

Tools wise, we used planes, chisels, wood saws, set squares, marking gauge's and digital callipers.

Ray was very knowledgeable and the atmosphere was informal and relaxed. Highly recommend if you want to learn how to construct basic wood joints.

Blacksmithing taster course

My wife and I attended a taster course in blacksmithing. We both had an absolutely amazing time. Lizzie and Richard our tutors were super helpful and offered great support during the course. It was very hands on and we were delighted to be able to take work away at the end of the session. The tutors made sure to cover the core principles of blacksmithing as well as the hands on practical stuff. Highly recommend the course.

Great intro to needle felting. Recommend.

Had a joyous afternoon. Strongly recommend both this particular class, needle felted owls for beginners and Jo in general. I had not tried needle felting before and also am sadly non artistic. But neither of these stopped me from having a great time and having the pleasure of making something. Jo was patient, friendly and great at teaching and explaining the basics. It was a small group, cosy and informal. The session was in Jo’s studio so we were able to enjoy seeing some of her beautiful pieces. I loved seeing how each of us produced something different and unique. Huge fun and enjoyment had by all of us, I will definitely be looking out for other sessions run by Jo. Worth mentioning Dean Clough is a large site with loads to do as well as several restaurants and bars and even a handy hotel on site if you are travelling from further away.

Perfect day spent hand composing type for letterpress and printing a short piece. First time I ever done this. Sheena was kind, patient, and very knowledgeable, having taught type and design at some of the worlds top institutes. Plenty of tea and gentle instruction from a very experienced teacher and printer.

I’ll be honest I’m the least artistic…

I’ll be honest I’m the least artistic person you could ever meet. I love trying new experiences though, so I never let that put me off trying anything new.
Stef is an amazing craftsmen, and manages to make you believe you can really make something to be proud of and I did!!!! My friend and I loved learning to use all the bots toys - ban saw, column drill thing and sanders etc. my friend and I were so scared at first but I was soon jumping up to do the next bit without any fear as if I do it every day. Having said that, Stef was always quick to be right by my side checking I was ok and safe. He had a unique knack of letting you ‘go for it’ but keeping us on track to make something amazing. He is kind and patient and instils confidence in our own abilities. We were both so scared of the actual painting of our toys as we can’t draw a stick man! But we both did it and ended up with something we are both so proud of. Thank you Stef for a brilliant day.

Company lack goodwill and understanding, wouldn’t recommend

Purchased as a gift for my mother, unfortunately she was unable to attend due to having the flu a few days prior. I was informed there is a strict 4 week cancellation period, with no option to reschedule or get a refund. I therefore intended to attend myself, however I hadn’t realised that when the date of the initial booking was changed by the organiser the time was changed also. The time was included in a new confirmation email but had never been highlighted as having altered. I was refused a refund or the opportunity to attend another date by Craft Courses. Very disappointed as £60 wasted for genuine reason, won’t be using this company again.

We’re sorry to read this review and that, despite our best efforts to reach a resolution through our direct email correspondence, we have not been able to find an outcome that you felt was satisfactory. We do appreciate how disappointing it is to miss a course, particularly due to illness.

When your original booking date was changed several months in advance, an alternative date was agreed directly with the course provider. At that point, an updated booking confirmation email was issued confirming both the new course date and the start time. The tutor also emailed you directly to confirm your booking and session details. This information did not change thereafter and remained visible on your booking confirmation, booking summary online, within your message thread with the tutor, and in the automated 3-day reminder email sent before the course.

When you contacted the tutor to cancel the booking due to illness, this was with three days’ notice. As clearly outlined at the time of booking, the course is subject to a four-week cancellation policy. By that stage, the tutor had already scheduled staff and prepared materials, meaning a refund or reschedule was not possible at such short notice. At their goodwill and discretion, the tutor did offer for someone else to attend in your mother’s place, however this option was not taken up.

On the morning of the course, you contacted the tutor to query the start time, which they confirmed as being the same time detailed in the booking confirmation and reminder emails. The course then ran as scheduled, but you did not attend.

While we understand how disappointing it is to miss a course, both the tutor and CraftCourses acted in line with the booking information provided and the published terms. We did offer a goodwill voucher for 25% of the booking value, which was not accepted.

We hope it’s clear that this was an unfortunate situation in which the student was unable to attend. It does not reflect the quality of the experience or the care taken by either small business.
