About Copenhagen Fertility Center

Copenhagen Fertility Center – fertilitetsklinik i København

Avoid this clinic

The only friendly people here are some of the reception staff and a few midwives. Egg retrieval was done with only local anesthetic—extremely painful and unnecessarily rough. But the worst part? They discarded my remaining embryos, a decision made about my case that was based on a verbal agreement they can’t document. It took me some time to write this as this has been devastating. No transparency and no accountability.

Dear A N
We are very sorry to read that you experienced your treatment with us in this way. We take any concern regarding fertility treatment – and particularly the handling and storage of embryos – extremely seriously.
For reasons of patient confidentiality, we cannot discuss the details of an individual treatment or medical record publicly on Trustpilot. However, we do not recognise the description of events presented in this review. This we have extensively explained to you already.
Decisions concerning the storage or disposal of embryos are not made arbitrarily or solely on the basis of an undocumented verbal agreement. They are handled in accordance with applicable Danish legislation, professional requirements, and the information and documented consent provided in connection with treatment.
We have already provided information regarding this matter through the appropriate channels.
We sincerely regret the distress you describe. At the same time, we must respectfully disagree with the suggestion that Copenhagen Fertility Center acts without transparency or accountability. Patient safety, proper documentation and compliance with Danish legislation are fundamental to our work.
Kind regards,
Copenhagen Fertility Center

Today was the worst experience I have…

Today was the worst experience I have ever had in my 22 years in Denmark from a medical staff
Was it racism, greed or lack of professionalism from the mid wife today who was irritated that I was opting out of IVF due to the extra cost and the mis communication around my treatment.
Openly complaining about how they would not get any money for the scans I had to the change in the treatment.
We ended up having a heated argument due to her arrogance when I tried to explain the information I had received from the personel.
The stress of the whole process and the arrogance of the midwife just broke my heart.
No one should ever have to experience what I experienced today.
Never would I ever recommend this place because of her outrageous behavior.

We understand that misunderstandings can arise when payment terms are not clearly agreed upon from the beginning. Some patients may assume that all services at the clinic are free of charge. We apologize if this has not been made clear. Although we offer free consultations, repeated services and additional support from our clinic are chargeable.

Wrong Protocol, No Transparency, and Refusal to Reimburse – A Deeply Disappointing Experience

We were charged for a full IVF cycle but were unknowingly placed on a mild stimulation protocol—something that typically costs significantly less. This protocol was prescribed based on a high AMH result, despite the fact that we had already raised concerns about the accuracy of that result due to conflicting test results. At no point were we informed that our treatment plan had been adjusted, nor were we told that the cost would remain the same despite receiving a different category of care. When we raised this issue, the clinic refused to acknowledge the mistake or offer any reimbursement, even though it’s clear we were treated with a less intensive—and less expensive—protocol than what we paid for.

Throughout the stimulation phase, medical oversight was inconsistent and insufficient. We were seen by multiple staff members, none of whom re-evaluated our poor follicular response or adjusted the treatment plan accordingly. Despite the lack of progress—already visible after the first week—we were never presented with options or given the opportunity to make informed decisions as the situation developed.

When it became evident that only two eggs had developed, we were not informed that canceling the egg retrieval was even an option—something that many reputable clinics routinely offer in such cases. As a result, we underwent an expensive and emotionally difficult procedure that yielded just two eggs, only one of which was mature.

For comparison: after switching to another clinic—far more professional and with a much more attentive and communicative team—we underwent another egg retrieval. The difference was night and day. With proper care, monitoring, and no change in my health condition, we retrieved seven mature eggs, demonstrating that the problem was not biological, but due to poor treatment planning and oversight at the original clinic.

We have tried to resolve this matter in good faith, but the clinic has refused to accept responsibility or issue any reimbursement. Their lack of informed consent, price transparency, and professional accountability has been deeply distressing both emotionally and financially.

We do not recommend this clinic to anyone seeking competent, honest, and respectful fertility care

Very uncomfortable experience at CFC

Treatment at this clinic is cheaper than the other clinics in Copenhagen, but I would not recommend having fertility treatment here. I had a terrible experience with the head doctor of the clinic during a very painful egg retrieval procedure. The nurse asked him to stop the procedure to give me a break from the extreme discomfort, and this doctor dismissed her with inappropriate and sexist comments. He then continued the procedure despite the pain I was in, while making further inappropriate comments about my profession and about my body. Afterwards the nurse came to apologize to me for what had happened and admitted that though her boss was a good doctor, he should have stopped the treatment because of the extreme pain I was in. In follow up phone calls, the doctor said that I should try to forget about what happened, and again made inappropriate comments about my chances of conceiving and my age in order to placate me.

I have had consultations at two other clinics since, where I was told that there was some carelessness in the timing of the hormone protocol leading up to the retrieval, which likely had a negative impact on the result of my treatment at CFC.

I have a good friend who had gone to CFC for her treatment and she was happy and had recommended the clinic, so what happened to me fortunately has not been the experience of others, but the complications of my treatment did shed some light for me that CFC has the potential to be an unprofessional environment. I should mention that the clinic has some kind and competent staff, but they made quite a few mistakes when taking some important details from me during some of my appointments and phone conversations there.

Given the sensitivity of fertility treatment and the emotional and financial cost involved, I would not take the risk of going back to this clinic and would urge others to consider spending more money to avoid a potentially traumatic and unsatisfactory experience.

Dear C.G.,

Thank you for your email and for sharing your concerns.

I was present and performed the final part of your procedure. I fully acknowledge that you experienced significant pain, and I deeply empathize with your discomfort. As we discussed extensively afterwards, this situation was highly unusual. Typically, such pain is not something we encounter during these procedures.

I also want to reassure you that the timing of the procedure was carefully considered, based on my 40 years of experience, and you successfully had a healthy embryo transferred back, which was a positive outcome.

Regarding your concerns about any inappropriate communication during the procedure, I can confidently state that such behavior is not part of our practice or management approach. We always strive to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and care.

As I’ve mentioned previously, you are more than welcome to reach out to me directly to discuss this further. Additionally, we are happy to provide detailed information to any other clinic to ensure a thorough understanding of the situation and help prevent similar experiences in the future.

Thank you for your patience, and please let us know if there’s anything more we can do to address your concerns.

The worst of the worst

Don’t get me wrong, the staff is very nice. But on the day before insemination I was sent a message saying ”hi, we have not recieved the seed”, that I had had ordered to the clinic and even tracked saying that it had indeed been delivered. It turns out I had 2 profiles in their system and for this reason one person had accepted the delivery, and the that one contacted me had checked my second profile.
Day of insemination the midwife said she couldn’t see anything on the monitor cause my bladder was too full (was told not to relieve myself) and despite not being able to see my uterus/situation we did the insemination anyway. Of course it was not a success. I didn’t sleep and was extremely stressed and agitated due to the we-lost-the-semen situation. I’m sorry CFC but your communication and clients best interest needs to improve.

EDIT: upon the clinics response I am even more appalled as everything they responded is a complete LIE. AVOID AT ALL COST!!!

Dear Emma,

Thank you for reaching out.

During our consultation, we discussed that the semen was not delivered as planned. Please note that this issue originated with the sperm bank and not with our clinic. Therefore, I encourage you to address this matter directly with them.

Regarding your concerns about the urinary bladder, I would like to clarify that it is not accurate to say that we are unable to see anything. Our procedure always includes visualization of both the bladder and the uterus. While the bladder can sometimes be very full, this does not typically affect the visibility of the uterus during the examination.

I hope this explanation helps address your frustrations. You are more than welcome to contact me directly if you would like further clarification or have additional questions.

I wish I could give less than 1 star to…

I wish I could give less than 1 star to this fertility centre. It is one of the worst places you can go to to get treatment, they are very bad at communication, and you are left in the dark. They completely messed me around with the whole IUI procedure, wasn't given the right day to do a scan which lead me to miss the ovulation syringe and ovulate and after seeing the scan which now showed its was too late for insemination I was told it would be ok, so last minute I had to book flight to fly to Copenhagen. One of the main Dr still went ahead with insemination “ in a very demeaning and crude way”, and didn’t even bother to show me on screen when insemination was done. When asked I was told “Oh I am Dr I have done 1000 of this insemination I know what I am doing”, I was stunned, to say the least. Totally takes away from having a life-changing moment to disgust.
I hope these people get audited because they shouldn't be running a fertility clinic.

We aways appreciate critisim and try to learn form thi. In you case we have the following note to be said: The situation is not as clear as you describe. However due to not expose personal data and specific problems, I just want to remind you, that we already before you came to our clinic provided very unclear pictures of your ultrasound finding, which was noted to you. Finally, I can see you were inseminated after hCG injection and a follicle of 19 mm which in the end is state of the art treatment. I am sorry to put you attention to this and hope you will call me to have further explanations.

competent and friendly doctors, IVF Lab experts, midwives & reception

Recently I have had a wonderful and memorable experience with this clinic. Since I come from another EU country, after I contacted via E-Mail the very next day I got an Videocall-appointment with the doctor. Doctor was very open about all the information, possibilities about fertility treatment at advanced age and becoming a single mother, yet she was very friendly and had an positive attitude, which gave me lot of confidence, hope and I knew I am in good hands :)

My whole treatment until egg-retrieval & embryo transfer was done via secured E-Mail communication. To local gynecologist I went thrice for the ultrasound and sent the reports to this clinic. However whenever I had questions and wanted to talk, the midwife called me back promptly. In my country only Doctor is involved in fertility treatments and there are no midwives involved at this stage therefore initially it was a bit strange for me but I can only say that the midwife was also very competent and friendly. Twice I had requested for a call and both the times midwife answered all my questions and was very understanding and patient.

As suggested by doctor IVF-Treatment was planned and I came to the clinic directly on the day of egg-retrieval and then immediately on the 3rd day I had embryo transfer. Both the procedures were done without anesthesia but due to all the advanced techniques used and expertise of doctors it was not at all painful. In fact it was so overwhelming to hear doctor saying 1st, 2nd... follicle retrieved and then immediately you hear from the lab 1st, 2nd... egg is collected :) Since I am 40+ doctor recommended and very competent Lab experts did assisted hatching for increasing success of the treatment. And I am very happy to say that at advanced age my first ever IVF-treatment at this clinic has been successful and now I am expecting a healthy baby 🙏🙏

Only twice I was in the clinic but both the times clinic gave me very positive vibes. I can never thank enough to my doctors, midwife and lab experts!!! 🙏🙏
I can definitely recommend this clinic for fertility treatment :)

Sadly I wouldn't go back

I have been through several rounds of IVF prior to this one, finally and miraculously falling pregnant with a baby girl naturally. As older parents we wanted to have a sibling for her. I decided rather than risk my own eggs at my age, that I would use a donor egg. This clinic have a program working with Spain to do and I leapt at it as it meant no travel in times of Covid.
I'm a very level headed person and quite resilient to IVF after so long but from the start I was wary. First of all the price changed. The I never saw the same person more than once. You are in and out so fast that you feel like a number. The doctor leave before you have even dressed. They don't explain what they are seeing or doing like many other clinics do. Don't get me wrong. everyone was nice but there was simply no consistency. I was told I might need egg hatching and said I would want that. On transfer day it was never mentioned. It was only later when I wondered if it was used. I wasn't charged and they told me I didn't need it... but they never said that at the time. I'll never know if it was forgotten or not needed.
Bu contract I recently had the same treatment in Cyprus. The clinic explained every step. I knew the quality of each embryo, I knew the measurements of my lining, I was explained the whole process of transfer, left to lie down and be still after transfer, had people hold my hand and wish me luck and communicate all the time. A dedicated coordinator and a dedicated doctor the same each time...
I hate complaining but I really hope the clinic can learn. It's not about success or failure that's biology but it's about feeling like you matter

⛔️ This clinic don’t deserve any stars 👎🏽

My partner has been on treatment with this clinic since June 2019 and all the months that passed until now we never had a good experience with this clinic every appointment. I agree with all the other comments how unprofessional they treat their customers. We felt like they look at their customers as money machines and they don’t really care to help you get pregnant. They are also really bad with communications and relying important informations. We have wasted time and money and lots of emotions already being at this clinic and I hope we have read the reviews first before we started the treatment here! I hope the reviews in Trustpilot will serve as a warning for others.

The first IUI

Let’s start with reviewing communication. The clinic has very flexible opening hours and are very fast in responding e-mails and are always ready to answer any question.
I went through the IUI treatment this month the very first attempt and me and my wife were more than satisfied.
If you would prefer to be treated by one person than do not choose Copenhagen Fertility Center, as every appointment is with different person-nurse,doctor you never know :D so that is considered as a minus, as it feels not as personal as it should.
Otherwise I can just recommend the clinic!!!

Do not go here

Do not go here, where there is so many other clinics to use in Denmark. We had a very bad experience with this clinic. New to IVF treatment we picked this clinic because they seemed professional in their advertising. In contact with them it was everything but. We felt treated as we where unwanted customers, and there was misunderstandings from the get go. As example we can mention, that the doctor who is rude and seemed angry called and yelled at us on several occasions 6 o’clock in the morning. We were told that they wanted us to call them with the results from the doctors in Norway, and they did not pay much attention to the mail with the notes from the actual doctors. This resulted in several mistreatments and misunderstandings, which again the doctor called and yelled at us for. After a couple of attempts we decided to go somewhere else even though we had paid for more. It just felt like Russian roulette.

Unpleasant experience

Unpleasant experience. Unfortunately, what others write is true. The communication is *terrible* with this clinic, a few of their employees (but not all) have very unfriendly attitudes, and you definitely feel like you are on a conveyor belt and are just a dollar sign to them. Almost nothing was properly communicated with me. I got a brief email and a prescription. They acted like any extra questions were a nuisance. I saw a different doctor every time, and usually that doctor wasn't entirely clear about my case. They forgot to tell me things (such as that I needed a prescription for the HCG shot and would administer this myself. The nurse was surprised when I said I didn't have the shot, nor was told by any doctor that I needed to get it. She had to chase down a doctor to get a prescription to use that night.) The clinic is super bare bones and matter-of-fact- no sheets to cover you (making for an awkward naked walk from the changing curtain to the stirrups), and doctors walk in and out with you exposed to the world. But the cherry on top is their bait-and-switch pricing. I came to the clinic because of their clear advertisement on their website for 9500 DKK for low-stimulation IVF (which is still on the website right now.) When I called and asked to verify that price, at the end of the conversation, a doctor I spoke with said "Actually, it is now 12,500DKK." I wrote an email to clarify in writing what the actual price was, including the link to the ad on their website for the 9500 price, and got a response that the price for low stimulation IVF was on their price list. Well, there is no price listed for that on the English translation of their price list. I wrote that to them and asked if they could verify which of the prices I had been quoted was accurate, and they wrote back that the price is now 15,000 DKK. Unbelievable! I had already started my medication at this point so could not turn back. This is totally illegal in the country where I live, to advertise false prices. I wrote that I found it very poor business practice to quote one price and then charge a higher price and asked them to compromise. Can you imagine a hairdresser doing this mid haircut? The doctor wrote back, "Please allow us to change price according to our needs. You are welcome to call me as I will talk to dr.[redacted] today to clarify his information to you." He never wrote me back. I wrote, "Did you speak to Dr. [redacted]?" No response. They refused to speak to me further about it. At egg retrieval, the receptionist demanded I pay 16,500 and refused to consult the Dr. about my unanswered emails. I said their website lists much different prices, and the English pricelist does not have a price for low-stim IVF at all, and the other receptionist said, "Yes, we know. It's a problem." However, as of my writing this, it still has not been added to the English translation, nor has that page with the 9500 DKK price been taken down (links not allowed in these reviews, so here is the text I am copying and pasting at this moment from their website): "The combination of the Kato Femal Clinic experinces on fine needle puncture of the ovary and low stimulation research from the ISMAAR organisation has made it possible for us in Copenhagen Fertility Center to present the first treatment program for w stimulation, low cost and low risk at our center The cost price is 9.500 Danish kroner without medication for a regular IVF treatment.")
Except SURPRISE, unsuspecting women! it is 15,000 Danish Kroner for this, and they reserve the right to raise the price on you after you've begun treatment. Really, buyer beware. I think this kind of behavior is scandalous. It's illegal in most countries to print one price and charge another. I guess not in Denmark. In all, if you are from abroad I would strongly recommend you avoid this clinic.

HORRENDOUS

Absolutely horrific experience with this clinic. Different doctors and nurses at every single appointment; no one ever had any idea what was going on with our case or thought it might be a good idea to browse over our treatment plan/journal for 2 minutes before we walked in the room; constant confusion and chaos at all times; one time several days after my second blood test results I was informed by text message (!!) that I was having a miscarriage; each time while being scanned there was someone standing with a wand inside me while the doctor sat at the desk placed in direct eye shot of my spread legs (I know they see 1000 vaginas a day, but I found the doctors at this clinic to have absolutely ZERO sense of professionalism when it comes to bedside manner etc.); extremely painful egg retrievals (one ovary sitting quite high up) as they do not believe in any form of sedation; always gave me the trigger shot too early resulting in too few eggs (went to a different clinic and three times in a row had DOUBLE the eggs I had at CFC); when I tried to ask about the details of my medication protocol and brought up concerns about x, y, or z, the doctor got incredibly defensive and went on a bizarre rant about how IVF is not guaranteed and that one of his nurses had to do 21 cycles before she fell pregnant (!!); ETC ETC ETC.... AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!
