My bitcoin miner has been "under…

Update: After initially leaving a 1-star review, the Compass Mining team reached out and assigned me a temporary unit for the duration of my unit being under repair. Thank you Compass Team.

My bitcoin miner has been "under repair" for 1 year now. At this point, Compass no longer responds to my messages in the ticket I started with them when I ask for a status update on the repair.

Additionally, I have tried starting other tickets to get an update and they just tell me they are "merging" it with the existing ticket and don't give me an update on the repair.

I wanted to support this company because their mission to bring bitcoin mining mainstream is good, but the customer support leaves a lot to be desired.

AVOID - nearly 50% downtime

I've had a miner with them for a couple of years. According to my Braiins payout chart, it was offline for (I estimate) 50% of the past 12 months. HALF!!
A BTC miner has an extremely limited shelf life as the power of competing machines goes up. Compas had ONE JOB - keep my machine up and mining.
I can accept a day or two... or a week ... of downtime a year, but SIX MONTHS??

Absolute and utter fail.

EDIT: I spoke with a friend of mine who has half a dozen miners with them. His experience is similar to mine. Apparently (I can't confirm this) the issue is that the Compass sales team have been selling more miners than they have rack space for. They're happy to take your money to sell you a machine, but there's no guarantees that they'll actually have it online!

Also, they have this 'credit' system which is farcical. If I understand it correctly, this is how it works. Let's say that your miner is offline in March because there's no rack space. Compass will still charge you for March, however they'll issue you a credit to cover it, so you pay with the credit. There's no 'compensation' as such for them not hosting - they just won't charge you hosting for that month. Meanwhile, your miner is gathering dust and aging.

To repeat myself, I can't over-emphasise what a disappointment this company has been. They've just shown greed and, honestly, contempt for me as a customer.

The miner has been operating with…

The miner has been operating with Compass since January 9th in Ontario. During this time, it has been running at full capacity, except for a few hours due to a storm. It was also out of service for a few hours last weekend, but it was quickly resolved with an email. The support is very good at any time and day of the week. I am satisfied with the facility service.

Very bad service

Very bad service. I ordered 1 S19xp hosted. but it keep offline due to their facility issue. for 1 year, it only run like 2 months.

I requested the contract terminated. and request them to return the miner, they told me it will take 6-9 weeks for them to ship my miner out.

What a ridiculous company. Totally big loss.

Legal action to be taken!

I have been scammed and I have receipts. If someone would like to join me and assist with a class action please let me know.

Worker Name: oh2fdxf
Facility: OH2 (Ohio 2)
Miner: S19 XP
Cost of Purchase: $14k USD
Background: purchased in May 22, miner became operational in January 23, Miner broken March 23 and has been broken until the 12 month warranty ran out. Now they are saying that it is our of warranty and I need to cover repairs. This was done purposefully to avoid repairing miners.

Anyone able to assist with legal action, I am setting up a website called compassminingscam.com where a platform will be created for all people to share how they have been scammed by Compass Mining. We will compile all information and commence legal action.

Customer service: non responsive or incompetent

new customers be aware: once they have your money that is the last time you will see it.

Poor customer service & lack of communication & transparency- Compass is failing at their mission to enable bitcoin mining for all as a result

My miner has been down for 7 months due to a relocation from Texas hosted facility where they needed to ship my miner (at that time my Antminer S19j Pro had been mining for ~ a year after initial 3-4 months of delay in deploying when new) to a maintenance facility and then ship to new hosted facility. I only got the initial news and when I followed up after 3 months they finally responded but with no new update. That was 4 months ago and no response when I requested an update 2 wks ago.

There is no transparency on their process for relocations and my perception is they are prioritizing new business instead of keeping their commitments to existing customers. I can not recommend Compass because if your hosted facility have issues, you will also go through what I and many others are going through.

Poor Communication & Radio Silence

I've had over 9 months of downtime for two S19 XP's that broke down at Texas 4 last year. I paid roughly $32k for both. In my dashboard it says 3/3 Miners Deployed, but I only have 1 S19j Pro hashing at Texas 3. I don't know what to do because their support keeps stating apologizes for the delay of the repair and relocation process for the two miners, and I feel helpless.

I’m not getting updated on a regular basis of the status of these 2 broken down miners, which should have been covered by warranty, and I am posting this negative review for any help. I don't know what else to do. I would appreciate if they could communicate with me whether this is a lost cause or not at this point.

High prices and horrible support.

Let's ignore the prices and focus on the support problems with two examples:

1.) The relocation of units from Texas 4 takes more than HALF A YEAR now and is still not resolved. An absolutely horrible experience without the possibility to chose the data center the unit is being relocated to.

2.) A brand new S19k went offline. Instead of properly monitoring the deployed units, identifying problems and fixing them right away it took Compass Mining ONE WEEK to diagnose the problem without an estimate on the repair itself.

Their support team obviously has no power over anything. It's the worst support I have encountered so far.

I give Compass a score of 96 out of 100

Some reviewers here are looking for miracles! I have been with Compass for over 2 years and find the support exceptional in nearly all respects. If my machine is offline for >24 hours and message them. The message is acknowledged, then 19/20 I get a reply within 24 hours, and action taken in 1-4 days. Occasionally one miner goes offline and into a black hole. Then - I didn't know this till recently - they will loan you a machine till it's fixed. If you get stuck with support, phone them - hunt around and there is a phone number for sales. They'll help. Overall I give Compass 96/100! I am happy and see too much inappropriate moaning on here. It's the wild west: take it on the chin and see Compass for what they are - worthy partners.

AVOID! Terrible service & communication.

I've had a miner down for over a month, & all I get are repetitive emails from their "customer service" saying they were looking into it.

As it turns out, this particular miner, purchased 3 years ago, has been offline more than online during the time I owned it, & it will soon be obsolete after the next halving.

Bottom line, AVOID this company. Do NOT rely on them for service of your miner(s). There are competitors that offer much better reliability & communication.

Service has gone seriously downhill

Originally signed up and purchsed 5 AntMiners in 2021. Things went pretty well (although always had to email in when the miners went offline, should have been automated) up until about 6 months ago.

At that point they redeveloped their website including the use of Auth0 for authentication. Now it's a major headache to even login. At the same time they stopped support emails and instead make you submit a ZenDesk ticket, no customer first approach there.

Currently my miners are about to get shut off because my monthly invoice is overdue but there's no invoice available in the portal. Support tend to ignore anything that's ahrd to fix and I've run out of energy to constantly chase them.

I'd recommed avoiding Compass Mining unless you get an absolute bargain on miners (mine will be for sale as soon as I can login) AND have a lot of time and patience to deal with their terrible support and web site.

Anyone that writes anything that is more than one star review is paid by this company.

For me this has been an ongoing nightmare. Compass do not respond. On rare occasions when they respond it is some vague update with no assistance at all.

I am scared that I lost $20k with Compass, my miner has not worked for 10 months.

If anyone is keen to take legal action, please count me in.

Do NOT do business with firm

Do NOT do business with firm - you will regret it. I purchased 4 Bitmain XP miners from them in April 2022. My miners were only deployed in Nov 2022. One went offline less than a month later (Dec 28 22) and the rest followed suit in Q1 2023. As of today, I have 3 tickets open tickets with Compass on these issues, one more than a year, the other two more than eight months. Throughout this time, Compass has been unable to get any of my miners online, unable to give any meaningful response about when they will be able to do that and unable to give me any indication they will ever go online. I am at this point considering legal action. To repeat my earlier statement - do NOT do business with this company, if you do, you will regret it. If you have any question about this, just Google "Compass Mining Reviews"

------------------
I'm following up on the reply from Compass below:

Put in another ticket? What a joke. I already have three open tickets with Compass for this exact issue, one ticket is over a year old (#143420), the other two (#171759, #172034) are both over 8 months old. All tickets are regarding my miners being offline and all have the same responses from Compass 'we are working on getting your miners back online.' If this is their definition of"working on it' I'd hate to see what 'doing nothing' looks like.

Compass has been unable/unwilling get any of my four (brand-new I might add) miners online - and there are lots of other customers like me, just look on Twitter (OK, X). While this is going on, they keep selling miners to new (unwitting) customers, and they keep posting to Twitter/X how wonderful Compass is to work with. I forgot to mention that they took down their customer support line early last year (2023). So, your ONLY avenue to communicate with Compass is via support tickets.

Folks, do not be lured into working with this company, you will regret it if you do. If after this you still consider it, then read the contract and terms of service very carefully. You will see it is 100% one sided. You are contractually obligated to pay the hosting fees while Compass has zero obligation in terms of service level - i.e. there is no penalty for Compass if they let your miners sit offline for years, ask me how I know this . . .

5th Power Rate Increase

Compass just raised my hosting power fee again. I've been with another hosting company for 2 years and they've never raised my rate once. They even replaced a bad hash board free of charge. I start to make a profit with Bitcoin mining due to the BTC price increase and Compass continues to raise my power rates. You start to make a profit mining and then it is taken away each time. I can't imagine if my own power company for my home were to do this. My power rate for my household electricity has never increased in the last 5 years. I had so many problems with these miners getting up and running originally. They are up and running now and I just get power rate increase emails. Please stop raising my rates.

Though we certainly understand rate increases are not favorable, in general, rates have increased across the board in the United States. We’d like to keep our customers at the same rate, however, we have to adjust accordingly to electricity rate increases. We evaluate miners that are coming up on their yearly term renewal; in this case, your increases occurred across your fleet after your initial yearly term was concluded. I’ve been with Compass for about 18…

I’ve been with Compass for about 18 months. While things started off good my miner has now been offline for three months with no date for redeployment. I’ve contacted Compass several times with little help and promises of dates that don’t happen. I was in Texas for my last location after my initial contract was cancelled and so I was relocated. Now Texas fell through and they state I’m being relocated. Honestly I’m doubting they have a place to put this miner and I’m being strung along.

If you visit their site they state miners will be online in 48 hours. I’d be very cautious of this. I asked to have my miner replaced and they said no. They done nothing to help rectify the situation. I’d stay away from Compass and put my money else where.

Update 12/20/23: the initial promise to have my miner back online in a few days passed last week. Now the story is some time in January. Honestly this just keeps getting worse.

Update 12/22/2023: Now I’m just getting copy and paste responses. None of them address my questions or concerns. None of them tell me when the miner will be back online. I highly recommend staying away from this company.

Update 01/12/2024: I was told on 12/27/2023 that all 400 offline miners would be online two weeks. Well it's more than two weeks later with no update and my miner still is not online. Their only solution so far has been to ship me my miner.

Update 01/19/2024: Another week and no response to my follow up. All I received was a notice from TrustPilot to send in more information as it seems Compass was trying to get this review removed.

Update 01/22/2024: I received a reply from the team after they found this review. The short version is that the miner is sitting in a warehouse in Washington without a plan or date to redeploy it. This does not look good for the company. It seems they are unable to find locations for these miners. Full response is below.

We're very sorry for the delay in getting your miner online.

Your miner is still at our Washington Service Center, and it is still pending redeployment. Currently, we have a substantial amount of units that are still pending redeployment due to an influx of miners that have been sent to our facility due to the closure of our Texas 4 facility.

We continue to process units at the service center and transport them to different facilities. We're making good progress in bringing more relocation miners online.

All the remaining units that have been serviced at the Washington service center are currently being prepared for shipment to our Texas 3 facility, where they will be redeployed.

You can go to this link for more information regarding our Facility Update.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

Update 01/31/2024: Still nothing. Not online not plan for when. It’s now going on five months without mining.

Update 02/12/2024: Again, nothing and zero communication from Compass. This seems like a scam at this point. I honestly don't believe they have the facilities to relocate these miners. I'd highly recommend staying away from this company.

Update 03/04/2024: Well, I am back up and mining in a new location. After more than 5 months I was placed back in a facility with no compensation for lost time. Honestly, while I am happy to be mining again, I would not do this again based on the lack of support and customer experience.

Advertised miners to go online, and after a year of delays, where the economics of the miners made no sense, will not make accommodations and will steal your miners. Corrupt and dysfunctional and takes no responsibility.

I am done

With only 1/8 of the miner operational, frequent downtime and relocation, I strongly advise against choosing Compass Mining. One of my XP units has been in the repair queue for the past 300 days. Yes, you read that correctly — 300 days for 1 hashboard repair.

Update 1 - Slight Improvement
2/5 S19J online. 3 still pending for relocation

1/3 XP online.
1st XP - needs repair with a temp miner assigned.

2nd XP - after months of relocation, broke down after 2 weeks of mining

3rd XP - offline since 31st JAN 2023. My brand new XP is only online for 3 months since i bought it in 2022. Support did reply they will assign me a temp miner but I am still waiting for it to be online.

Update 2
Temp miner is online as promised, and I received an email from an employee attempting to address the issue I am currently facing. It's good to see things are moving.

Update 3
I was informed that my miner was sent for repair in December, and the repair was completed and redeployed in January. However, it has remained offline the entire time without any updates from support. Did I just lose two months of uptime for no reason?

Update 4
My XP uptime is barely more than 4 months since I bought it in 2022 Nov. Support has been keeping me updated on the entire process but i don't think they can do much from their side as the issue seems to be from facility side? I have mentally write off this miner as there is no way i can recoup my loss with 23 days left from halving, a bunch of repair bills and MINIMAL uptime. The entire jouney with compass started off as OK then it went downhill very fast with the XP defect issue and extremely long repair time.
