It is a fantastic online academy to start your coding career, the content offered is very easy to understand and follow, I've personally used it to learn JavaScript and it has been great, I will start Python as soon as I get the chance. Absolutely brilliant customer service. There are only two things I'd recommend: 1) The implementation of tutors for Pro user, forums and pre-recorded videos are not enough (specially for beginners) and 2) The possibility of a more accessible/affordable Pro plan monthly payment. Other than that, I will most definitely use again and recommend Codecademy.

I had an issue with billing but customer service was very fast and helpful

I was going to give 1 star but I guess for very basic stuff they might be good.
Currently over halfway through the FullStack Engineer course and it is quite bad. Whenever there is more complex things to be taught you just don't get it. The instructions are vague at best and a lot of times ambiguous. I guess they tried to oversimplify things that shouldn't and it just gets you lost. Sometimes, midway through lessons they throw a concept never taught and simply put a link to an external documentation that can often be very technical.
Even with the paid course there is no real support. You get access to the forums, which you'll be probably waiting about 3 days for an answer that is usually also a bit vague.
I kind of makes you lose the excitement of learning how to code to be honest. It gets very boring very quickly.
Their hints are poor as well, there is hardly any explanation, they either give you the code to copy and paste and or just repeat the instruction with different words which makes no sense.
I totally regret paying for the course and am powering through to get it over with and hopefully find better courses out there.
It's just a shame that the course is very lengthy so the amount of hours I have and will spend compared to the knowledge I will get out of it, will be disproportionate :(

I too was charged for a rolling subscription without notification.
Worse, when I went to customer service, it turns out they *turn off their email and ticket raising feature*. It’s like, they’ve opening and closing times for an online business to *receive* an email or ticket!! I’m not talking about dealing with a query but *receiving* a query.
What am I do to: set my European alarm for when east or west side US customer employees might possibly be scheduled to open their laptops and reactivate an email address and ticketing system so that the company receive communications from clients and customers?!
What company had opening and closing hours to receive communications back in 2000 never mind 2023?! Even worse, these guys supposedly teach how to build websites and optimise UX. It’s a joke!!
IN RESPONSE:
You *turn off* the ticketing system and email so they can’t be submitted! So what you claim in your response is not true.
Plus even worse now, I received a feedback satisfaction question by email and each option leads to a ‘bad gateway’ error page. So your customer feedback survey is a fake front exercise too.
I suggest you stop the copy and paste replies to an inconsistent and ineffective feedback system. Better nothing and give up on Codeacademy than deal with this rubbish form of customer relations

no tutor, when you ask for help you are refereed to the community support, so you are at the mercy of others, only choose this platform if you want to learn everything on your own, topics not well explained,
NEED TO HIRE SOME TUTORS

I took the Java beginner course to prepare for a class (AP comp sci A). It was great and the content is simple to understand but goes in depth a good bit. I love the sections at the end of most lessons that says "AP students keep reading" and it gives you more of an explanation for the topic. It also lets you see some of the answer on most of the problems. Sometimes you get really stuck and need the answer. It has taught me a lot, the structure is efficient, and the lessons are fun to do! Overall great website for learning in my experience as a beginner/intermediate using the Java course!!
My only gripe is how much it costs and the fact that 1 month or 1 year subscriptions are your only options. I wish there was 3 or 6 months.

BEWARE of the subscription trap!
I was charged £191.88 WITHOUT ANY WARNING from Codecademy at all, and after not having used my account in approximately 6 months.
The courses are fine but the customer support is non-existent.
I learnt about the renewal charge via PayPal. Despite protesting to Codecademy that this was an unfair and unenforceable contract term without having been contacted whatsoever, which moreover would cause me hardship, Codecademy didn’t respond. In fact I’ve not had an email from them at all throughout the course of my membership. There’s obviously a problem on their system that they won’t acknowledge.
When I raised a dispute via PayPal, they fraudulently claimed I had only just subscribed and was actively using my membership! In fact I’ve only recently logged in because I needed to in order to request a refund as contact information isn’t published and you need to be logged in for their contact form. Now I’ve had to register a Section 75 claim via my credit card.
If you want to subscribe, make sure you cancel ASAP to avoid nasty surprises and a lot of work trying to get unfair charges reversed.

A great resource

really poor for learning ruby. Doesn't sequence things properly.
I learnt more from other sources.

Really good lessons and customer service.
Went in and finished some of the lessons when I had a pro. I do think for a beginner, it's a really good way to get into it. No hassle of setting enviro up (though you need to learn this even though!) so you can jump in and learn from the get go.

I'm currently doing the full stack path. It has been a smooth learning process. From basic to more complex concepts, the curriculum is laid out very well.
Also, along the course, you start setting up your environment to do the challenges of Codecademy.
The platform is way better than just a "code-along" video tutorial on youtube when trying to learn any programming language. The hands-on approach Codecademy have is delightful.
Although some exercises may lack context, some are too hard or too easy. Still, overall, the curriculum is very well balanced, and challenges are very accurate for gathering momentum.
The only platform that can compare is Datacamp(I tried it also, and it's maybe better for data science), but for the web stack, Codecademy is the best I've found so far.
I'm very grateful for Codecademy. Kudos! Very nice job!

I've used Codecademy for about a year, and for basics it's ok. I've learned Python, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and a few other concepts/languages. All along the way, I've fought broken content, site glitches, and poorly explained concepts. So many times they will tell you what to do and how to do it(in a limited context), but very rarely why. Only used it so long for guidance on what to learn next, because I paid for the year pro subscription, but I've needed to rely on youtube to understand any remotely complicated topics. Would not recommend, especially if you have no previous IT or coding experience

The website and layout look very nice, but often the examples are very, very easy,
It's a lot of, "monkey see, monkey do" learning, given the exact code what you need to type, which is not a way to learn, especially with coding. It should be encouraged that you try and fiddle around and figure stuff out yourself first a lot, which is imo the best way to learn code, of course keeping an option to give the answer if you can't figure it out.
Also the examples given could be more oriented to what you'll actually use the code for later on.

Doesn't let you refund a Pro Subscription.

I feel it's quite good to get me motivated and intrigued. I made a mistake when purchasing pro, and forgot to change yearly to monthly payment, but the good people at codecademy helped me change over to monthly.

The initial impression and look of the website sells the product. They do a good job simplifying the areas within software development and to provide a basic idea of where everything fits in. So far, it feels a bit disconnected from the actual development environment though, but I am still in the foundational stages. I understand that the 'training wheels' web-based environment is one of the features that makes them unique, but I don't feel exposed to the real thing yet. Maybe this will change. I like the brand and how they structure your learning path for you (with multiple specialisations), which is a real help to get you in the right direction. It's a cost-effective way of learning to code for a year by doing one of the career paths and not having to buy multiple different courses. It's a one-stop shop. I just hope it's enough.

So-so. Some lessons are really well-explained, but others are messy, and the methodology is often questionable. I wouldn't recommend this as a way to learn coding.
