When greed & unfairness takes the edge off a lovely place
I initially booked the villa for 4 people and a short time later wanted to add another person. I checked online what the extra cost would have been initially if I had booked for 5 people & it was a total of 30 euros. I was shocked when I was told that I would have to pay an extra 240 euros (an increase of 210 euros). I challenged why and was told extra services and accommodations provided – this reason did not make sense as the only additional cost would have been laundering 2 towels. If that was the real reason, then wouldn’t it apply no matter when you book? Greed was the real reason. They had me over a barrel & they knew it. Interestingly, they would not deduct anything for the guests that didn’t stay for the whole duration – surely it works both ways? I will not be booking any accommodation with this company again. Ironically, it states that the villa is a place to find inner peace, this took a while because of the way that I was treated.
Here are the pros and cons of our stay in ‘Maison du Bonheur’ near Alghero.
Pros
Very spacious downstairs
Beautiful pool area
Lots of cleaning products provided and a good range of crockery, pans & cutlery
BBQ with coal and firelighters & tools provided
Patrizia was very helpful with all of the maintenance issues that we had. She sorted things out very quickly and it was a pleasure dealing with her.
Cons
The 2 upstairs bedrooms have very low ceilings so you are constantly bent over which is uncomfortable
The mattress in the second bedroom was not firm enough & so you roll together
Cleanliness – there was unclean cutlery, crumbs & a broken glass in a cupboard and dead bugs on one of the upstairs bedroom floors
Only one stand up shower which is not enough for 6 people
We had lots of maintenance issues – a metal part of a bedroom door fell down, mattress upstairs was very creaky, patio doors wouldn’t lock, electricity went off due to leak in the fridge, hot water was lukewarm (most of these were fixed during our stay)
The lighting is poor in the upstairs bedrooms
The spiral staircase doesn’t feel very secure
The towels are old and need replacing
Don’t use the car hire company they recommend, they are very expensive
It states in the description that ‘caretaker at the villa’. The caretaker lives in the basement of the villa – I think it’s important that is clear, as we found it a bit strange at first.
I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone. The owner has totally lied in this review. We took out all of the garbage and left the villa in very good condition. I even swept the floors before we left.
When I sent an email confirming that I would share my experience with others to help them, the owner accused me of blackmail. I confirmed that it was not my intention at all and everything I have said is factual.
The owner reveals herself in this response. I emailed weeks before to say an extra guest was coming - it's all there in black and white. Shame on you for actually lying wow! Here is a copy of the email below that Mercedes sent on 9th September - we arrived on the 16th. If I was sneaking someone in, how did she know on the 9th September? She is stating that I didn't want to pay, but that is not true. I did not want to pay 7 x more than the original cost if I'd booked an extra person at the beginning. When things don't make sense, there is a negative value driving the behaviour.
