Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 849 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the subscription model, finding the usage limits too restrictive even for paid plans, which often led to interruptions in their work. Customers also expressed frustration with the pricing, considering it too high for the limited access provided. The service itself was frequently criticized for being unresponsive and difficult to reach, with many encountering automated responses that did not resolve their issues. Some people were dissatisfied with the artificial intelligence, noting its inefficiency, tendency to hallucinate, and inability to consistently perform tasks as expected. Conversely, a few other people also felt that the AI was helpful for specific tasks like writing and text analysis, and some even found it to be a superior tool compared to other AI options.

It's getting worse and worse by the day, even on newer models. Not to mention the prices are genuinely horrid, I get to use 5-6 prompts before my usage limits are up and I have to wait for 6 hours.

Deceptive business practice

The upgrade process in Claude is extremely deceptive. I was working in a chat on the free plan. Part way through the chat I got a message saying I’d hit the session limit on the free plan and asked if I wanted to upgrade to continue. I clicked through and purchased an annual Pro plan. I went back to the chat to continue as it had said I could do if I upgraded. I received a message saying I’d hit the session limit on my plan. I hadn’t even been able to use the plan I’d just purchased. So I requested a refund via the AI chat. This was granted. I then thought, surely that was a mistake, it couldn’t possible be that way and perhaps I just hadn’t refreshed or something and the usage limit message was still relating to the free plan. So I upgraded again. This time I made sure to refresh, but yet again, it gave me a session limit message. I realised, it really is that way. That is incredibly deceptive as a business practice. The message says ‘upgrade to continue’ and then when you upgrade, it doesn’t let you continue. I want a refund but the AI chat is refusing to refund a second time. If I’m not granted a refund I will be contacting my bank to have the transaction reversed and will be reporting this to Consumer Affairs.

The endurance of a digital swindle…

The endurance of a digital swindle involves long periods of mounting frustration, punctuated by the briefer, sharper interludes of realisation that one has been fleeced. It is a squalid spectacle. One watches as ninety percent of one's credits are devoured, consumed by a machine that reads with a gluttonous indifference, only to be met with a sudden, stony silence the moment the limit is reached.

And do not, I beg of you, labor under the delusion that the thread can be resumed. Oh, no. The memory is wiped as clean as a the first time.

These practices are not merely incompetent. They are illegal.

I sought a refund on the very day of this wretched transaction. Two weeks have since vanished into the ether, and the silence from the other side remains as profound as a locked church door.

One is forced to conclude that these are not the architects of a new intelligence, but common con men. It would shock me not at all to learn that this "silicon brain" is in fact a desperate call center in India, masquerading as a machine. To fall for such a charade is to be complicit in one's own robbery.

I know what it is I am now experiencing.
I know what the frailty is, I know what the fraud is.
The fear is not for the credits already lost. What is lost is already behind the wall.
What is lost is already in the pockets of the thieves.
The fear is for the next man who expects a symphony and receives only a wooden spoon.
I said that.

Don’t do the trial

As with others, signed up for 7 days and tried to use it but the output wasn’t worth it so went back to ChatGPT. No notification trial was ending. This is now required, I believe? Then I got charged £29.99. A complete rip-off, considering I can’t see the value in it and it won’t perform as needed.

Anthropic’s Claude is unfair to the UK-based customers

My experience with Anthropic’s Claude AI subscription has been extremely disappointing, and I believe UK consumer protection bodies should take a closer look at how this company treats UK customers.

I subscribed on April 21st, and by April 30th — only 9 days later — I asked about cancellation and refund rights. Anthropic’s response was that their 14-day cancellation period only applies to EU/EEA and Switzerland residents, and because the UK is no longer part of the EU, UK customers are excluded. They then pointed to a general “non-refundable” policy.

This feels deeply unfair and anti-consumer. A company selling subscriptions in the UK should not hide behind technical wording while offering weaker protection to UK users than to customers elsewhere in Europe. The fact that a customer can subscribe, quickly discover the service does not meet expectations, and then be told there is no refund after only a few days is unacceptable.

The service itself also does not justify the cost. Many users report that Claude’s paid subscription comes with restrictive usage limits that make it impractical for serious work. Paying customers expect a reliable, usable product, not a service that blocks them from completing tasks after hitting unclear or frustrating limits. There are also repeated complaints that the AI feels less useful or less capable after subscribing, which only adds to the sense that the subscription is poor value.

Anthropic’s pricing and subscription model appear confusing and insufficiently transparent. Customers should know exactly what they are paying for, what the real usage limits are, and what their cancellation rights are before subscribing. Instead, the experience feels like paying upfront for access that may quickly become limited, with little practical recourse if the product disappoints.

Overall, this has been a very poor experience. Anthropic presents itself as a responsible AI company, but its customer service and refund approach do not reflect that image. UK customers deserve better clarity, better protections, and fairer treatment. Based on my experience, I would not recommend paying for Claude AI unless Anthropic improves its transparency, usage limits, cancellation process, and refund policy.

Disappointment

I registered and was excitedly planning my classes when, just 45 minutes later, I received a message saying I had reached my limit. I was very disappointed and requested a refund after the necessary deductions were made. What happened? Absolutely nothing.

If I could give this negative 10 stars I would!!!

It banned my account on the first day of me using it, when all I had done was ask it to format my book. And speaking of that, EVERY TIME I ASKED IT TO FIX A PROBLEM IN THE FORMATTING, IT MADE IT WORSE. After my account got banned, it accused me of being a child when NOTHING I had done pointed to that. It then told me the only way to get my account back was to take a picture of either my face, my credit card, or my ID. TOTAL RED FLAG. This is also the second time it's happened. I absolutely hate this app.

Auto-renewed without clear consent and refused refund immediately after charge

I decided to try Claude’s Max plan on a monthly basis for €90.

What I did not expect was for the subscription to be automatically renewed without any clear reminder or meaningful consent from me before the renewal charge. As soon as I realised the payment had been taken, I contacted support the same day to request a refund.

Despite the fact that I had acted immediately and had not intended to continue the service, Anthropic/Claude refused to refund the charge.

This is extremely disappointing. A premium AI service charging €90 per month should have a much clearer renewal process, proper advance notification, and a fair refund policy when a customer contacts them immediately after an unwanted renewal.

I was interested in testing the product, but this experience has left me feeling trapped by the billing process rather than treated as a customer. I would expect better transparency and customer care from a company positioning itself as a serious AI provider.

I cannot recommend Claude Max unless they improve their subscription renewal and refund practices.

Don’t believe the hype

Don’t believe the hype, It is a terrible software to use. It hallucinates better than any ai software I have seen. They’re very quick to ask for payment without giving the users time to actually see what they can provide at least a three day trial. Chat gpt is much better and reliable

Paid Claude Max 5x gift access disappeared without resolution

My Claude Max 5x gift subscription disappeared after being officially redeemed and used.

The subscription was activated through an official Claude gift link on April 12, 2026. It worked on my account, and then Claude Code suddenly stopped working. Shortly after that, I received an email from Anthropic Safeguards saying my access was revoked due to vague “ongoing suspicious patterns,” without any specific explanation of what I allegedly did wrong or what policy category was supposedly violated.

After logging back in, my account appeared as Free, and my Claude Max 5x gift subscription was no longer visible.

Anthropic’s automated support bot could only see an unrelated “Individual Org - API plan.” It confirmed that no billing information was available for the Claude Max 5x gift subscription and admitted that the case requires specialized review of gift redemption records and subscription history.

Despite that, I was not connected to a real human specialist, no proper ticket ownership was confirmed, no restoration was provided, and no refund or credit was processed.

This is unacceptable for a paid product used for professional work. Anthropic’s current support and enforcement flow is opaque, automated, and deeply unreliable for customers who depend on Claude Code.

Safety systems are important, but paid customers should not lose access to a redeemed subscription with only vague accusations, no transparent review, no human escalation, and no billing resolution.

I am requesting immediate restoration of my remaining Claude Max 5x access or refund/credit for the unused portion.

The limits run out extremely fast

The limits run out extremely fast; even though I purchased the Pro plan, I definitely do not recommend it—all the limits are exhausted after writing just 2 messages. Every minute they want money.
