Citi AAdvantage Card Members

Citi AAdvantage Card Members - Be Careful With Merchant Offers
I have been a Citi AAdvantage card holder for almost 30 years, and I am extremely disappointed with how Citi handled a recent merchant offer.

I received a merchant offer for H&R Block through my AAdvantage Citi card. The offer was advertised with “$40 Cash Back” in large letters, but when I looked at the details, it stated that the actual cash-back amount was $8.00 and that the offer expired on April 16, 2026. I enrolled in the offer and took a picture of it for my records.

I went to H&R Block on April 15, 2026, one day before the offer expired, and paid $305 for my tax preparation using my AAdvantage Citi card.

When the $8 credit did not appear on my statement, I contacted Citi customer service multiple times. Unfortunately, I received five different answers from each of the five people I spoke with.

On my May 14 statement, I did not see the $8 credit. I called customer service and was told that it would appear on my next statement. I continued checking my transactions but still did not see the credit.

In early June, I called again and was told that I should contact H&R Block because it was a merchant offer. When I asked for H&R Block's phone number, the representative could not provide one. I explained that this was a merchant offer advertised through my Citi AAdvantage account, so I did not understand why I would be responsible for contacting the merchant about a Citi promotional credit.

I then spoke with a supervisor, her ID# SX20343 who told me that the previous representative had given me incorrect information and that she would take care of the issue. I was told to allow 7–10 business days and to call back on June 19 if I still had not received the credit.

I called exactly as instructed on June 19. At that point, I was told by another lady that I was too late to use the offer because it had expired on April 16.

I don't understand how that could be the case. I enrolled in the offer and made the qualifying purchase on April 15, one day before the stated expiration date.

I then spoke with another supervisor, D.J.ID#T30508 who told me that Citi AAdvantage is primarily for mileage and not responsible for merchant offers. If that is the case, why are these merchant offers being advertised through AAdvantage accounts in the first place?

He ultimately promised that he would take care of the issue and that I would see the $8 credit on my July statement.

It's the end of August. I still have not received the credit.

At this point, I have spoken with five different representatives and received five different answers. I have followed every instruction Citi has given me, made the qualifying purchase before the expiration date, and provided the information requested.

Yes, it's only $8. But for a company like Citi, $8 should also represent something much bigger: customer service, accountability, and honoring the offers presented to your customers.

Again, I have been a Citi AAdvantage card holder for nearly 30 years. I am extremely disappointed that I have had to spend this much time trying to resolve an $8 promotional credit.

AAdvantage cardholders, please pay attention to misleading advertisements. I took a screenshot, I kept all of the documents and those supervisor’s ID#s. It doesn’t matter to them. They just don’t care.

Citi, I hope you will review this situation and make it right. I am not asking for anything unreasonable. I simply want the $8 credit for an offer I enrolled in and a qualifying purchase I made before the expiration date.
