This is a WARNING about "unMEAT" products
This is a WARNING about this company for vegetarians and vegans.
We were purchasing this company's products until late 2024, because they tasted EXCELLENT, like real meat. All of our friends said it was "just like meat!"
In fact, it was almost *too* realistic.
A 2015 study showed that 10% of "vegetarian" sausages in fact contain meat, and 10 years later there are a lot more companies -- most of them ethical, some not -- getting into the "plant-based foods" market.
So I checked the packaging of their various "unMEAT 100% plant-based" products -- pizzas, sausages, ready-made "meat" dishes -- to see if I could find any certification, such as certification by the UK Vegan Society which certifies 70,000 vegan products. It is a simple process, certainly for a large company, and would help increase confidence in their brand.
Result: No certification found on any unMEAT products that we tried.
So I went to their website in order to contact them. There I saw that Century Pacific's main products are all meat-, fish-, and dairy-based. "unMEAT" is just another brand they started (or acquired?) more recently.
I contacted them in early 2025, through their website's Contact form and through their email, asking if their products were in any way certified "100% plant-based" as they claim.
No response at all.
I contacted them again this month, again via their published email address and their online form, asking again if their products were certified by any reputable vegan/plant-based organization as being 100% plant-based. This time I gave them fair notice that I would be alerting the plant-based public about their company if I did not receive a response.
There was no response, so here I am. I will edit or remove this review if Century Pacific would care to respond constructively.
I am not saying that Century Pacific is a company that deceptively sells meat products to vegetarians, but many companies do for the sake of profit. This behavior is appalling and disgusting.
WARNING to all vegans and vegetarians: Unethical companies are selling meat to vegetarians because (a) it is cheaper than using plant-based ingredients and (b) it is more realistic so they sell more product than true plant-based companies who struggle to create realistic "meat" products. I would suggest that if a "plant-based" product looks/smells/tastes "too good to be true", then it probably is and I strongly recommend avoiding it unless it is *certified*.
Century Pacific: Please get certified!
