Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 67 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people expressed dissatisfaction with the customer service, citing unhelpful and rude support staff, and difficulties in reaching a real person or getting clear explanations for issues. Customers frequently reported problems with their service, including SIM cards not being activated, phones returned unrepaired, and prolonged service outages, leading to lost business opportunities and income. Payment issues were also a significant concern, with people being overcharged, billed for services they did not agree to, or experiencing unauthorized deductions, and difficulties in resolving these financial discrepancies. However, some customers also noted positive experiences, praising responsive and friendly customer service, excellent assistance from specific employees, and good network reception in most places. A few other people also felt that the network was fast, reliable, and consistently kept them online without stress.

Cell C network is useless

Cell C has to be one of the worst networks when it comes to signal, EVERYWHERE!!!
I can't even watch a video in peace then it buffers, if I try to play a online game I always have network problems. my signal is always bad. I don't know if they will ever change. And I won't recommend it to anyone!!!

Fraudsters

On 8 August i bought R550 worth of data from Cell C website and paid via Nedbank EFT.
I have not received the Data as cell said that they did not receive the funds.

I opened up a case to investigate it at Nedbank
85935955 reference number.

I was also charged 0.50c email charge for a service that i never used.
I asked for this charge also to be investigated with no feesback. They don't seem to take me serious.

Its been 2 weeks now and they have not refunded me.
I asked for a statement but none was given.
Nedbank keeps telling me that the problem is with cell c but cell c tells me they did not receive the funds.

There is also a call center agent called "Princess" who threw the phone down in my ear because she keps speaking over me and I asked her nicely to stop doing that.

All i get from cell C is Apologies yet no action!
Useless!!!! All of them!!!

i have had a major issue with Cell C…

i have had a major issue with Cell C for over a month now, it has taken them more than a month to allocate my 2 payments that were done via their website, in the meantime, every week the still put the debit order through on my bank account, i have had to move all my funds to another account just to stop duplicate payments (which will take another 3 months to sort out), they have now cost me R840.00 on bank charges, why should I be held liable for these costs if i did pay the accounts, yet Cell C still continues to put the debit orders through every week (for the amounts that have been paid)????

Dissatisfied customer

Appalling service from a company that I have been loyal too for over 8 years. I loaded data and it did not reflect. I spent close to an hour trying to reach customer service. I eventually got to them the following day and they said they had a technical issue which they were not sure when it will be fixed. I called again to enquire because I needed to do my work as I'm WFH. The advisor denied me the opportunity to log a complaint and further stated that the said TL will refund my data. The call was disconnected. Appaling to say the least infact -1 should be the rating!

Putrid customer servic3

Putrid customer servic3
I am utterly appaled with cell c. Time and time again they fail me as a customer. Last year they kept shutting me off it took them nearly 3 weeks to sort my internet out and the y whitewashed my number. They were then suppose to pr rate my bil and nothing happened. Last year I took out a new hand device and asked them to move over my insurance to the new phone they subsequently cancelled my insurance and to date I am still waiting for them to contact me to insure my phone. 2 weeks ago I upgraded my data package with a new laptop. The guy told me I will be getting 1 years free subscription for Microsoft and my new data will only kicki in from July. Well this was another LIE. last Tuesday i opened the package and tried to set up the laptop. When I get to the Microsoft I. Realize that the free subscription is only valid for one month then I need to pay about 1400 for the years subscription. I immediate called cell c and explained the situation
They told me they would listen to the call and resolve within 48 hours it's not a week and a half and nothing has been done. On Sunday I was trying to watch a movie then I saw that I got a notification to say my data is finished. I immediately and I spoke to Tsepo who told me he sees there is an error with the way the contract has been loaded and my data will be sorted within 48 hours. He also advised me that instead of upgrading the contract my contract was migrated. REALLY?? Tuesday I called in again asking to speak to a manager as I still had no resolution they said someone would call me back. In the interim I was out of pocket for ANOTHER RR00. As I had to tip up data on my phone to work as the wifi was still not corrected. A lady then called me and said she had listened to the call and the guy who signed me up would call me to rectify the error. Today is Friday and still cell c has not called me. I then called in myself and demanded to speak to a manager the lady told me that Tsepho would get back to me I said I don't want to speak to tshepo as he is *********** and has not got back to me. I asked to put me through to someone else. She said she was putting me through to nomfundo. I was put on hold and cut the call after 1h04 minutes. I called back they like a raging frustrated bull. After much shouting and screaming they wanted to put me through to tshepo I said I did not want to speak to him. I wanted another superior. OMG they put me through to Nonjabulo who then said that tsepho would call me. I told her I was looking for a MANAGER. SHE INSITED then that tsepho was a manager. I asked her how is it possible when tsepho himself and the other people have been saying tshepo is a supervisor/team leader. She then states that team leaders are manager. I asked her how can she put me through to someone I don't want to speak to and who does not know customer service. I asked to speak to tsepho"s line manager and she said he does not take calls. I am absolutely gob smaked. I asked for his email address and was told she is not at liberty to give it out. I am at my wits end. Is this the customer service that I receive. I have been a loyal customer with cell c for years I have 4 contracts with them and they take their money faithfully every month. I told the lady I am not going to pay them at the end of the month and will I will only pay them a month from the date my query is resolved. Meaning if my query is resolved on the 15th I will only pay them on the 15th of July. I want a MANAGER feom cell c to contact. How is it that you cell c are a huge corporation but you never ever have a manager available to take a consumers call. Is this fair. How is it that you guy sit in the office daily and are in back to back meetings. The customer service and the incompetence and lies of your staff makes me want to vomit. I cannot believe that you guys make a fortune off us yet refuse to speak to clients over the phone. Should I not get a a call from a manager by cob today I will take this further

Frustrated and disappointed with Cell…

Frustrated and disappointed with Cell C's customer service.

Info: Our Cell C billing date is the 26/27 of every month.

My husband and I each have a contract with Cell C. At first we both had data and device contracts that cost about R840 (in 2024 with the yearly increase) altogether. In March when we were nearing the end of the contract, we contacted Cell C to discuss what would happen once the final device payment was made and how much it would cost for the data plans alone. The woman said that our phones would continue the data plans automatically and that each contract would cost R150 for the data plan alone, so a total of R300.

Our device contracts expired but then we received a message stating that we were owing a total of R840 on the next payment date. We called Cell C again to find out what was going on. A lady apologized and said that it was a mistake on their side. She proceeded to say that the data plans that our cell phones were on was no longer available, but that she could move us onto one of their new plans. We were then moved onto data plans that cost R200 each, a total of R400. She said we would have to pay pro rata for the days that our phones were on the "old" no longer existing data plan, but we figured it wouldn't cost much as the old plans were R150 each and if the days were pro rated it would be even less as I work from home and my husband only goes into the office once a week.

The first month, April, was fine and we were charged R400 for the new month. Then in May we received messages that we were going to be billed R808.08. We called and called Cell C customer service all day. Their line was down and when we finally did manage to get hold of someone, they said they would transfer us to the relevant department to help us but then the line would go dead. My husband eventually managed to get in contact with a woman sometime mid afternoon.

This lady proceeded to say she could not help us and we had to pay the R808.08 because it was the pro rated amount. This made no sense to us and we asked her to explain it (I work at my home all week and my husband goes into the office once a week, so our data usage would not be exactly the same). She kept repeating that it is the pro rated amount and we have to pay it, that there is nothing she can do. We tried to explain how it did not make sense that we have been making monthly payments this entire time, and questioned why we had to pay a pro rata amount if we had paid for the full month already.

She and my husband started to get frustrated with each other, so I took the phone. The lady refused to interact with me, interrupted me and spoke loudly over me when I was trying to explain that we had made our monthly payments and were up to date. I told my husband she was ignoring me and handed the phone back to him. She continued to say that we weren't getting it, that we had to pay the full R808.08, and that she was going to transfer us to her manager.

Surprise, surprise, the manager never picked up.

We then received an email the next day (2024/05/23) from Cell C:
Good day
Thank you for contacting cell c
We have received your email regarding Bill dispute.
Please note we tried to contact you on *husband's cell number* and you were unreachable
In order to process your request we need to verify your details telephonically.
Kindly note the amount R 808.08 include pro rata once off from 03/04/2024
For further assistance, alternatively you may contact our Customer Care line 084 135. Available 24/7, free call from a Cell C sim-card only.

We never received a phone call from Cell C, and their customer care line is shoddy. You are lucky if you get in contact with anyone and if they transfer you, you are likely to be left hanging for ages until the line eventually is dropped.

Payments made in 2024:
January R840
February R840
March R840
April R400
*Expected May pro rata payment R808.08

Took double payments from my account

Cell C took double payments from my account, namely 30 April & 2 May. I sent emails to call customer care, called and spoke to agents where they pointed out can see was a double deduction from my account. Despite agent calls and speaking to Supervisor cannot get this resolved as they want a detailed credit card statement - I am not going to risk this as already suspect a glitch somewhere in their process, how can you trust to give a month's credit card statement with your personal info and I sent them screenshots of deductions from February to April clearly stating transactions. Also this is clearly a problem on them side then should do the refund?

Very bad customer service and I'm changing my network. I've been using cell c for little over 3 years and never had a problem
