The personal touch

The personal touch, that’s what made the selling experience so good. From the start I felt that all the staff had a genuine desire to help me get the best sale of my precious and cherished car. Easily contactable and keen to offer constructive advice.

Pleased to say I had a very positive experience using car and classic auctions, after purchasing through them when I bought the car it seemed to make sense to sell through them. Overall very good.

Great experience

Really easy to post the ad. Helpful hints on how to describe the car.
Very quick response from potential buyers. Car and Classic is obviously the right market place when you have a rare car.

Phone calls started straight away

Phone calls started straight away, had two viewings within a week and the second bought the vehicle at the advertised price. I've tried the rest over the years but Car and Classic beat them hands down.

Best Platform for Specialist Classic Cars

I think the platform is very user friendly. The step by step process helps. It is easier to upload the photos than it is on Autotrader. Clearly the audience for a specialist classic car in very good condition will find there way to Car and Classic. Sponsorship deals with the likes of Chris Harris & Friends certainly helps to broaden the awareness.

The car sold through Car and Classic…

The car sold through Car and Classic after a few weeks, so I'm happy with that. I paid extra for promoted exposure, but only ever saw the ad on the homepage once, although it may have appeared more often of course. My sense is that the site is increasingly dominated by ads from dealers.But I'd definitely use Car and Classic for selling again.

A really great experience as a vendor

A really great experience as a vendor
I had been trying to sell my mercedes from 1968 for years, until someone told me about this auction website. And I must admit I was a bit sceptical at first BUT:
- they reached so much more potential buyors than any other website I had been trying before
- someone was there every single step of the way to make sure all went smoothly and reassuring me when I needed it, making sure we had the best pictures, the best features explained (and also the best transparency for the buyor : what needed to be done still on the car etc)
- once again, my car had the visibility it finally deserved and got sold to the highest bidder (at a better price than I expected), it was sold to a real passionate, friendly fellow.
- we got each other's phone numbers and emails to communicate and arrange the transfer quickly.
- only when the buyor and I clicked "OK" on the website, the transfer happened (from a separated, dedicated account that received the money beforehand).
- Although it's based on the UK and I'm a bit further below, geographically speaking, the bank transfer took only 2 days to arrive.
- the only thing I regret is not having relying on their services sooner :)

Be cautious when bidding on an Auction

Be cautious when bidding – hidden process and poor customer service.

Be cautious when bidding on a vehicle through Car & Classic. The website clearly states that a service fee will be charged if you win an auction, which is fair enough, and the amount is shown upfront before bidding.

However, my experience was very different from what is implied. I placed a bid on an auction with around 2 hours remaining, where the service fee was £975. As soon as I bid, this amount was immediately taken from my account (pending) and made unavailable to me, even though I was later outbid.

I contacted customer services to raise this and suggest they clarify their website wording. I was then informed that towards the end of auctions, they may charge the service fee immediately.

This is not clearly explained on their website and absolutely should be.

Unfortunately, the customer service experience was just as disappointing. The representative came across as rude and dismissive and showed no interest in taking on feedback.

Three days later, I am still waiting for the £975 to be returned to my account.

If you bid on a vehicle in the final 24 hours, be prepared for the service fee to be taken immediately. And if you are outbid, do not expect a quick return, it may take 3–5 working days.

A final note to Car & Classic: your customer service team deal with frustrated customers daily. Treat them with understanding and take feedback on board. This interaction ended with me having to hang up due to the poor level of service, which is simply unacceptable.

The temporary hold placed on the service fee during the final stage of an auction is part of our serious bidders policy, which is designed to ensure that all bids placed on our platform are genuine. This helps protect sellers and other bidders from speculative or uncommitted bids, and the process is covered in our FAQs, and displayed at the point of bidding when you accept the terms and conditions.

Regarding the return of funds: when a hold is released, the timeline for those funds becoming available again is governed by your card issuer or bank, and can take 3–5 working days. This is unfortunately outside our control once the hold has been lifted from our end, though we understand how frustrating that delay can feel.

We are concerned to hear that your interaction with our customer service team left you feeling dismissed. FANTASTIC:
1st time selling a car with CAR & CLASSIC, after I enquired about a realistic value via their website.
Quick and easy to use, upload photos, and all at a reasonable price for selling.
With a large customer footprint, I was almost instantly receiving messages about the advert.
No scams.
Just genuine potential buyers.
The result was a quick and easy sale and a easy transaction with the buyer, who travelled over 4hrs to buy the car.
Highly impressed.
Highly recommended
And will certainly use again.

Myinitial enquiry was by telephone and my queries answered fully an clearly. I chose to advertise with a boost and received several enquiries leading to a sale to the first enquirer within 10 days of placing the advert.

The process of preparing and placing the ad was straightforward, the only slight difficulty I had was identifying the space for replying to enquiries which appears right at the base of the computer screen
