Capitec Bank: Where "Simple Banking" Means Simply a Nightmare 😂💸

Oh, Capitec, you sneaky little budget banker, promising "affordable" everything while turning account management into a comedy of errors straight out of a bad sitcom. Let's dive into my epic saga of woe, shall we? 😩

First off, I tried to open a Sole Proprietorship account – you know, the kind where you are basically just you, no fancy registration needed per CIPC. But nope! Capitec demands I shell out R1000 for some random lawyer or accountant to scribble a note saying, "Yup, this human exists." 🙄 As if that is not absurd enough, their online system ghosted me, so I schlepped to a branch. Only to be told, "Sorry, champ, business accounts are phone-only vibes, and not every branch is 'equipped' for it." Equipped? What, do you need a spaceship or just a functioning computer? 😵‍💫 I felt like I was auditioning for a role in "Bureaucracy: The Musical."

Undeterred (foolishly), I pivoted to a plain ol' savings account. Boom, opened online in 5 minutes – the one thing that worked! 🎉 But wait, plot twist: They charge you for ‘receiving’ deposits? 🤯 Like, thanks for the money, now pay us for the privilege of receiving it? Genius-level villainy. Deleted the app as it is clearly useless. I immediately called to close it. They say, "Go to a branch." Fine. Arrive sans ID (had my driver's license – that has got my face on it, right?), and they are like, "Nah, need the real deal." 🤯😱 Back home I go, cursing under my breath.

Round two at the branch: Now they insist I reinstall the app ‘right there’ to close the account. 🙃 App back on phone, then comes the fingerprint fiasco – all 10 fingers on a scanner that has not seen a wipe-down since 2020. 🦠 My poor index finger? Scanned THIRTY TIMES. I kid you not; I timed it while questioning my life choices. The branch rep asks why I'm bailing, and I explain the deposit fees are highway robbery. Her response? "Which bank does not charge?" Uh, honey, let me school you: Absa, FNB, Standard Bank, Investec, Discovery – none of 'em ding you for incoming cash. It is like Capitec's living in an alternate universe where banks are allergic to free money. 😂

Thirty agonizing minutes later, account closed. But not without feeling like I had survived a gauntlet designed by sadists. This is not "treating customers fairly" – it's straight-up regulatory dodgeball, making closure harder than escaping a cult. Save your sanity, folks: Skip Capitec from the jump and cozy up to one of the other banks that would not nickel-and-dime you for existing. I did, and life is way less 🤪 now. Zero stars if I could! 🚫⭐

Capitec Business Banking application is very poor

Great staff are expected to deliver a first world service with broken tools.

Compared to the Capitc app their Business banking app is archaic, stop-start and dedinitely not smart banking.

Time consuming and laborious!

After restarting to see if the app will work my log in details are lost.

Sometimes I can not close the app on my phone.

Sometimes I get notifications after working on the app and sometimes not.

In app use is poor and when you tick on a block or action the screen does not scroll down to where the cursor now is pointing in the app.

Why have guidelines for reviewers?

Take all the news and feedback you get and fox it!

Your telephones take long to be answered.

Your staff is on so many occasions either on a break or sick or training and as a client I have to wait for service that has to be done from a broken system.

You are one of the most profitable businesses in the country, fix your business or get out of the race.

Stop making hollow apologies and do something about your problems, I have been listening at your poor excuses for 3 months now, is this time to find a functional business banking partner for my small little business?

I had fraud in my account last month

I had fraud in my account last month. Blocked my card and got a new one. They let the same transactions go through again so the same thing. Cancel the card and next month the same thing will happen. It's shocking that they know it's fraud yet still let it go through. Closing my account.

Ive calles them 2 times regarding a transaction ive made that does not seem to be working. This wont be the first but the last. Non of the two helped me with my problem. I must admit, the experience has been far from satisfying. I truly expected a higher level of professionalism and efficiency from Capitec, yet the repeated lack of assistance has proven otherwise. It’s disappointing when a bank that prides itself on accessibility cannot even meet basic client expectations. I’ve decided to move all my banking affairs to Discovery Bank — a place where service still seems to hold meaning and value. Perhaps this change will serve as a reminder that customers deserve more than polite apologies; they deserve actual solutions

Capitec Business Bank inconvenience

We have been using Capitec Business Bank for 3+ years(since it was Merchant Bank). Their banking fees are quite competitive and their banking app and online banking is quite simple and primitive but it does serves its purpose.

However their customer focus approach leaves a lot to be desired. We lodged a request for directorship change on our bank accounts and it took 4 weeks to action with a lot of time-consuming back and forth with the consultants and Docusign. During the transition period, there was a time our company lost access to our bank account for more than four days. Their reason was 'because changes are in progress'.

We could not access the account nor make payments from it and we had to divert payments to another account so that the lack of access to our account doesn't cripple our cashflow, and cause unneccessary tension with our suppliers over non-payments.

Calling their call centre to get assistance during the time we did not have access to the bank account was futile. They would ask security questions that relate to account activity that happened during the period when we didnt have access to the bank account. That just exacerbated the frustation. Asking about recent account activity on an account that our business hasn't had access to in DAYS!

Capitec Business Bank uses 'Focus on SMEs' as a unique selling proposition but they are yet to deliver on that. They are still far from it.

If you are an upcoming business or startup , try to steer clear of Capitec Business. They are cheap on transaction fees but Very Expensive when it come to Convinience and Peace of Mind!

Better use the traditional and reputable banks.

‘ Visited a brunch for loan ‘

Visited a brunch earlier this week my Mother and I for a loan , very helpful team . Only to be offer a HOME IMPROVEMENT LOAN with (Build IT)

After they do such a grate job of getting us to agree to that now nothing is happening .

We have builders to pay and a deadline to meet but till today No Money

I think Capitec has reached the Sealing.
Plenty clients but minimal to No Customer satisfaction at all.
The reviews I’ve just read tell me the Exact story being relived by deferent people Over & Over Again .

Complacency should be one of the values of the Company because no one dose that better then you do Capitec 👏🏿

The biggest problem with you is you continue to look straight in our faces and do absolutely “*****.O.L” to help us .

Capitec Bank Scam

I opened 2 business accounts with Capitec and the service is poor. I requested for the closure of the 2 business accounts and signed all the documents they sent. They haven't paid my money back which is the balance on both accounts. They've been lying to me saying a banker will call me but nobody is calling. I don't encourage anyone to open a capitec business account.

I had an exceptional experience with…

I had an exceptional experience with Thabo, the bank teller at Cosmo Bridge Mall. From the moment I approached the counter, Thabo greeted me with a professional attitude. He was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and efficient in handling my problem, making the entire process smooth and stress-free. It’s rare to come across service that is so professional. Thank you for your outstanding service!

Capitec Worst Customer Service I've…

Capitec Worst Customer Service I've experienced. Very Frustrating

The 27th of August my account was suspended and funds were kept on hold. All I got was an email stated there has been suspected fraud.
I phoned them, they told me, it is from a payment I got on the 30th of July.
Since then I went to the Branch twice phoned numerous times.
On the 11th September my account's restriction was lifted, only 3 hours later it was suspended again.

This is the answers I got from the different agents I was talking to calls made by me as well as Whatsapp on CapitecFraud.
- It will take 7 working days
- You will not see the funds.
- It will take 3-5 business days.
- I dont know i will call you back.
- I can't get hold of the person who does the account lift, I can't understand why she hasn't done it yet because there was a lift, but i will phone you back.
- You won't get access to the funds.
- You must sort it out with the person who made the payment (which i did and he phoned the bank)
- You are not using your account.
- The accounts are being escalated, 3-5 working days.

The last Whatsapp I received,
- Thank you for your patience it's taking longer than usual. Documents were received.

As from today 22September I have not received 1 phone call from Capitec, my funds is still on hold.
And the person who made the payment to me, his account is already been cleared/lifted.

Be very careful if you have an account because this has come from Zero Warning. They simply just put my funds on hold. And good luck getting answers and the money back.

It is the worst bank I have ever encountered with. They are claiming to be the cheapest bank but in actual they are the most expensive and they have so many hidden charges. I used capitec card internationally and they charged me tremendous amounts because the limit exceeded but it does not give u a message that limits are exceeded and on top absolutely no answers as to why was I not told about these charges when I informed them of my trip. Please stay away from this place.

Capitec Business Bank Pitfall

I recently opened up a Business Account with Capitec. The process was user friendly and seamless - the assistance at the branch was great (N1City). When it came time to deliver my Capitec Business Debit Card - any address - I was told I would need my ID book.
When the third party courier arrived at my medical office, I showed my ID book to the courier. He informed me "I MUST TAKE A PHOTO" - at which point I refused. Having been the victim already of identity theft, I did not want to open myself up. I informed the courier company that during the day, I COULD NOT answer my cellphone, and my policy is to receive only text WhatsApps. The couriers, CRR couriers, could not / refused to comply - attempting calls, then emailing me (after I told them on at least eight (8) emails that I DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE DURING THE DAY - WhatsApp TEXT ONLY.
Of all companies, a bank should realize this issue, ajd offer the possibility to fetch the card at the branch. Apparantly, this is beyond Capitec's capability - a situation which needs to be addressed.

I was making out a credit application and received a call the next day, I was busy asking for advice and got the worst attitude from this woman, when questioned she hung up on me, two days later I got another call, the person hung up on me mid sentence, what is going on with Capitec? I have never been treated like this for no apparent reason, I can't believe this.

Worst bank in SA

Worst bank in SA. Cheap banking means cheap service. They hold money and then cannot explain why it's on hold. They have held money coming to me for over a month and cannot explain to me why. Every time I ring or go into the bank they say that the person is off who put it on hold. So so bad. And it's been a month and they still won't help.

Time your Capitec visits at Canal Walk WC,late…

I visited Capitec Canal Walk WC,late afternoon and was disgusted by the attitude of the constant at reception. It was disturbing that this person categorized me by the colour of my color with her tone, attitude and language choice. I then requested to speak to a consultant. After 'brushing me off' she met with the very same consultant that chose my ticket, behind closed doors (no proof of having a brief) but she
knew of part of my story. After listening to my dilemma the second consult atleast gave me options, which was satisfying.

The worse bank ever

The worse bank ever. They are robbing us our money. Just like an Hour ago an amount was withdrawn from my bank, mind you my limit is way below that what was withdrawn and Capitec client service is telling me it was a delayed debit done last month. And the day they are telling me , I have never made any transaction 🚮

Frozen funds

04158356 case number.
My funds were frozen because the individual who sent me money was flagged for fraud, he's account has since been fixed but my funds are still withheld.
I've sent all the required documents and have not received a response or communication from Capitec.
I have not received a detailed update since it happened on the 22/07/2025.
The consultants have escalated the issue and they also haven't received a response from their own fraud department. I lost 11k at a capitec atm that malfunctioned and never got it back, their service is dismal to say yhe least. I've been to the branch so many times and sent multiple emails. I've been getting the same response. "Were sorry for the frustration this has caused". Not even a single response from the guys who Froze my funds. I'd give them a zero if I could, I'm even changing banks after this.
