Security deposit not returned after months. Lack of transparency and evasive communication.
I rented a vehicle from Capital Rent a Car in Miami in October 2025. At pickup, I was charged a USD 2,500 security deposit, which I accepted under the assumption that the company would follow the terms stated in their own contract. According to the “Return Agreement,” the car was returned on time, with no damages, and with more fuel than when I received it. Everything was documented properly.
Despite this, the deposit has still not been returned. Their contract clearly states that any remaining amount must be released within 25 business days after the end of the rental. It has now been nearly six months, and I have not received the refund nor any meaningful update.
Communication has been extremely difficult. Their phone system sends you into an endless loop where no agent ever answers, and emails receive one vague reply before the communication stops entirely. At one point, I was sent a “refund receipt,” but it contained no traceable transaction details, and no refund ever appeared on my card.
The most concerning part is that this is not an isolated incident. After reviewing other customer experiences, the pattern is consistent: attractive prices upfront, unexpected fees later, and deposits that are delayed or never returned. The lack of transparency and accountability is alarming.
I am still actively pursuing the refund through all available channels, but based on my experience and the many similar cases reported publicly, I strongly advise others to exercise caution before renting from this company.
