Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 31 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the customer service, finding it unhelpful, with agents who lack knowledge and sometimes speak poor English. Customers also frequently report issues with payments, including unexpected interest charges, delayed application of payments, and difficulties with transfers. The pricing structure, including annual fees and high interest rates without rewards, was a major point of contention. Some people also felt that the company's service was outdated, particularly regarding the lack of mobile payment options. A few other people also felt that their accounts were closed due to inactivity, even when they intended to pay off their balance. However, some customers also noted positive experiences with specific agents, praising their politeness, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

My mother passed after a long battle…

My mother passed after a long battle with cancer. She had 97830 reward points, and had a debt of 421$. In being named executor I am responsible for paying her debts, however, Capital One would not honour her points. So basically they still want the money owed, she is alive then, but when I ask to redeem the points she becomes dead again. I have been on the phone for an hour with these people and I have to say disgusted by their lack of respect during this terrible time in one's life. If you do not show respect during this time to someone, it is not hard to figure that the word respect is foreign to them. DO NOT do anything but stay away from these disrespecting people, do yourself a favour.

7 years of doing business with capital one and I file my first dispute ever after getting hit by a known scam and they didn't side with me because I couldn't prove that I didn't receive anything lol how do you prove that? They could google the company and see thousands of other people didn't receive it but instead they want me to physically mail in proof. Good riddance..

Worst customer service and system silos.

The customer service is an abomination. The call center in the Philippines offers largely rude untrained staff with little or no listening skills. As a long time customer of Capital One even before it opened the Canadian Branch, I have now closed my account due to the limited service available when you call or use their online customer service. It’s difficult to communicate in English with the call center. They tell you there is no Notth American service and no options to reach someone who even knows what they are doing.

I had an email from Capital One about a charge on my account that I did not make. I contacted their customer service department The person I spoke with had a very heavy accent and I could not understand much of the conversation. They send me another email that said to verify my identity I had to use a tablet or cell phone to confirm. I don't own either of these devices. So I phone back again...now customer service tells me to FAX a government issued document to prove who I am. I FAXed that. Two days later I phone them to see if they've received that information but now they tell my that's not enough. Now FAX your income tax return and a utility bill. WHAT? I've had a card with them for well over 10 years and now they want my income tax information. NO thanks...run don't walk away from this company.

AVOID

I am a pensioner in my 70's with a fraudulent charge of $537.87 on my credit card for a transaction associated with a business, the merchant name being changed by CO. Numerous CSR's asked for my case number (which I did not have) also promised me that someone from Fraud Recovery would call me. NEVER HAPPENED! My detailed complaint to their Ombudsman in March 2023 has NEVER been answered! Happy that Costco dumped them!!!

BEWARE: Financial Gatekeepers

This company has repeatedly acted as a *gatekeeper* of my financial transactions by declining foreign charges as 'unknown, fraudulent or suspicious', even after I have repeatedly "approved" such expenses as a part of an authorized payment plan which repeats on the same day monthly.

Customer service does not handle my complaints about this well at all; I've been hung up on, redirected to 'dead extensions' and put on hold for ridiculous periods of time. Agents are conveniently "forgetting" to make notes on my account about my issues and every time I have attempted to resolve this declined payment issue due to an unrecognized transaction, I'm delivered rhetoric by someone at a call centre I can barely understand due to the heavy accents, who repeatedly tell me that this is an auto-generated response which cannot be changed. I'm basically told that my payment plan payments will continue to be declined every month even though I've personally approved them multiple times, even though the charges are being applied by the exact same company ID every time. This is eroding trust with the organization I have set up my payment plan with, as they are inconvenienced as well as charged fees for having to repeatedly process my payments manually. This is really messed up, and I wish I had not consented to a having credit card with these folks at all. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM

Applied, accepted and stole my deposit

Applied, got accepted and paid deposit. Great!! Card never arrived but was getting emails walking me through next steps. When I called, the rep didn't understand what I was saying and when she finally understood said she needed proof of payment, and took reference number from bank. After another incredibly long hold said I would get money back for troubles and card would be in the mail in the next day. Still nothing and it's been almost a year. Everytime I call they say they have no record of me or my application or previous calls. Customer service reps are rude, hang up on you, call you a liar and scammer...glad to know they stole my $75 deposit and got no further money from me in interest!! Stay away from this company who doesn't care nor make right their mistakes.

Client of several years is finally done!

I've been a client for a number of years, I'm not sure why I stuck with them past the data leak, but I did.

Anymore when I call, it seems to be a rush to get their customers off the phone as quick as possible, I guess I was interrupting the TV show I could clearly hear in the background of my latest reps call, when it's correcting their companies billing errors.

Finally closing my account once my final bill comes in this month.

I tried to get a cash advance of $60.at an ATM and it kept saying not authorized. Called the customer service number and was put on hold 3 times for a total of 30 minutes only to be told, that I checked my balance 3 times, which I didn’t do and said that checking my balance that many times (again I did not do that) put a hold of $13000 on my card and that I’d have to wait until the next morning to take out $.01. What a joke. I have a small balance on my card and yet they still wouldn’t let me take out a measly $60. They are horrible (US based) and I’m cancelling my credit card immediately!

Do NOT get a credit card with this company

If you are thinking of getting a card with capital one, here’s what you’re in for.
- Constant issues with statements/overcharges.
-Rude, unhelpful and completely unprofessional “customer service.”
- You can regularly hear employees goofing off in the background and laughing. This happened 3 times. One man answered the phone laughing hysterically while running into a quiet room to speak to me.
- If you ask for an ID number after they have either failed or outright refused to address an issue that they are at fault for, they will down right refuse to tell you who they are. One representative even laughed.
-I have yet to speak to someone with decent English. Either they cannot understand what you are trying to explain or vice versa, therefore you are on the phone twice as long. Be prepared to repeat your email and residential address 5 times.
- A quick google search will inform you of just how important your personal information is to them. Be prepared to have HUGE security leaks and breeches.
- Lastly, Getting ready to ask yourself if we are in fact on planet earth, these people will drive you that insane.

Save your sanity and use a different company.

I was out of the province and my card got declined. After many calls to Capital One I was told they needed to update my contact info to remove the restriction. I asked that security questions be asked over the phone and not texted to me as I’m not great with technology. They refused and told me they were cancelling my card. No explanation. Just said they had the right to do whatever they wanted. I would never use this company again and warn others not to as well.

AN APP FOR THOSE WHO ENJOY COUNTLESS PROBLEMS

Well I can say without hesitation that they have the rudest customer service I have seen. They refuse to send me a new card ,I tried calling the number they gave me to order a new card because the one agent canceled my card and changed information on my account, in total I have been on hold for 8 hrs in 4 calls. Be aware of the many issues you will encounter if you subscribe for any of the services they offer.
