I am a customer of Canvas Annuities. I have 2 accounts with them. I have three friends that have accounts with them. The initial drawing card that brought them to my attention was the higher interest rate they were paying, plus a very good rating by AM Best. And that's because they do not pay agents to get them contracts/customers, ergo no commissions, higher rates paid to customers. So now that I have an account, what is important to me is being able to get online into my portal and seeing my account grow whenever I want. In my portal I can see all of my incoming and outgoing communications history as well as set my beneficiaries; gain access to forms that can be filled out without printing and sent to Canvas all in one session. Plus my contract is imbedded inside my portal. And RMD's are a snap with them. All of this is great. But the most important thing after all of the above is CUSTOMER SERVICE. I can easily reach them Monday through Friday with very little wait time. They are knowledgeable and thorough and quick to resolve an issue, if there is one. Which brings me to this......They have an agent named Jon V. I had a need to withdraw some money and send to another institution to pay a bill. And it had to be done quickly or else. I told this to Jon, he listened and then personally went out of his way and went the extra mile to expedite that check being cut and most importantly delivered ahead of time to the end receiver. He provided the Fed Ex tracking number as well for my peace of mind. He himself followed up on every step of the way. Now that's what I call service.

STAY AWAY!!.1. the application looks like old paperwork out of the trash from a 1950's company that went out of business. 2. The application had no mention of rates ,legal items or anything. 3. After you are APPROVED, you are suppose to grant complete access to your funds post haste!! 4. The agent they picked to handle my $500000 policy must not have made enough commission to answer my questions and respond to the question. All I got was the brochure, canned no response responses. This is either a scam or the worse customer service I ever saw, if not I wouldn't give this company $.10.

It is great that a representative (Cynthia Jasso) emails us to keep the ball rolling on processing the annuities we have. Sometimes we do not realize she has sent us an email and it has delayed the process somewhat.
I called the Canvas number but did not reach Canvas, but instead Puritan Life who was unable to help with situation other than to let me know that there are only a handful of people processing stuff. I understand that completely, as a nurse we were always short-staffed. Knowing this has made me more patient with the process than I was originally. The largest frustration I had was not knowing what a "wet signature" is. Had it been defined or explained it would have saved me several days trying to find a bank (which I was unable to find without opening an account) which issued medallion signatures. So my recommendation would be for Canvas to use more simple language for folks, especially since your customers do not get to talk to a live person and have to figure this stuff out for themselves. Also, you ask to "verify email". Have no idea if this feature is working on your website. There is no message that comes up saying one thing or another.
Am appreciative of higher rates though and am willing to continue with your company. Thanks!

We have over a dozen fixed rate annuities that we have constructed over the last five years. All of these were constructed with an agent some of the experiences being just OK, when we found a different agent the experiences became much better. Our most recent annuity I constructed as a direct to consumer with canvas. I found the entire experience to flow really well. Furnishing virtually all the info we would normally give to an agent who had to pass it along we simply furnished direct to canvas. Process was quick and we were totally comfortable furnishing the info as process was so much the same as when we used a commissioned agent. YES, our next annuity will be direct to consumer and most likely with Canvas.
