A charity that’s willing to protect its partnership with a company that abuses terminal cancer patients on clinical drug trials

Human beings have a great capacity for wrongdoing. It’s an attribute that is unique in the world of life. We can and do make things worse, voluntarily, with full knowledge of what we are doing (as well as accidentally, and carelessly, and in a manner that is wilfully blind). – Jordan B. Peterson 2018

Having contacted the press department on several occasions both by phone and e-mail with regards to the deplorable way ScottishPower treated a terminal cancer patient on clinical drug trials; all they were willing to do was be silent.

This charity doesn’t care about cancer patients or the way family/careers supporting those patients are treated.

Changing shape of charity shops

People go into charity shops to get a bargain. If an item is, for instance, £2.80, why not make it £3 initially instead of asking customer to round up to £3, as directed by Head Office. Also asking people 'if they gift aid' is fine but 'do you pay tax' is not. That is an intrusive question, which I object to being asked. Staff should hand out a leaflet about gift aid for customer to read for themselves. Finally, most of the good quality donations don't reach the shop floor, but, go on eBay. I know Cancer Research has to rely on donations for their income but the shops are beginning to be run like businesses. Targets are expected to be reached.

Started volunteering at the store in…

Started volunteering at the store in AbbeyGate Street.
I was made very welcome. Beverley the shop manager made me feel at ease and the volunteers there that day made me feel I was part of a team .
Beverley did a great job at the induction and I look forward to my next shift .
Anyone looking to volunteer for the charity pop in and ask for more information.

This refers to the new Superstore in…Torquay

This refers to the new Superstore in Wren Retail Park Torquay. When this opened prices were good. Apparently the Area Sales Manager has insisted all dresses are priced at £5. Initially they varied between £3 and £5. So good choice depending on brand. Now not so. The lady on the till didn’t agree with this policy. But typically staff on the ground who know what sells are railroaded by Management. Also quite a large amount of the stock should be ragged, holey scruffy bobbly jumpers, shoes with little sole. I go there weekly and stock should be moving through if priced right but same old boring rubbish week after week.

Disappointed

I recently went to drop off some donations to the Bromsgrove branch, I called first to explain what I had got, I was asked what I was donating, after telling me they were very busy, I eventually got some help to bring the donations inside, and was told ‘we don’t want any more than that’! And was asked again, what was in the bags.
I’ve never had this kind of issue before, I felt like taking it elsewhere where it might be a little more appreciated.
CRUK has been an important charity for me in the past, I’m hoping that the member of staff was simply having a bad day.

Enfield Town shop On

Enfield Town shop
Please train your volunteers, one in particular who has become very complacent and thinks she is at a market stool with a foghorn. And what I mean by that is that she is talking about customer while they are in the shop to her colleague and while the shop is full of customers, everything she is saying can be heard and it is not nice. This volunteer is there on a Tue, Fri and Saturday and should not be working with the public. Please remember you are working in a CHARITY SHOP, please be charitable.

Newport Retail Park ✅

Always have such a positive experience in the Newport Retail Park Store. There’s a young girl with black hair who is usually behind the till. She is always so friendly and has great service. ✅

Badly run , disgusting prices

Cancer research sheppy Neats court

Disgusting prices
Management taking cloths of a paying customer as they "wanted to charge more "
Management taking branded clothing home without paying
Rude staff
Supposed to be a shop for people on a tight budget no chance of that
People that run it should be ashamed

A company that makes over £600 Million…

A company that makes over £600 Million a year and pays its CEO over £200,000 a year and apparently they still haven’t cured cancer. It’s just a massive con like religion. Anything to get your money. I hope their ceo is diagnosed with something terminal soon as karma

Rude volunteer! (Finchley)

The volunteer working in the Ballards Lane branch (Finchley) was unbelievably rude :( I donated some items on Monday and when I walked in she did not smile or greet me but sat there stony faced aggresively pointing towards the back office, to indicate where I should leave the items. I have never come across such awful, unprofessional behaviour. These are free items donated by the public, there should be some level of kindness and interest to customers who have taken the time to bring in items that may benefit someone else. I will not be donating to this shop again.

Cancer charity shop abuse

Cancer research shop on Lord Street, Southport - I had a horrible experience with the manager. I asked the assistant if a Jacket for £9.50 could be bought for £7.50. She asked the manager, who flew into a complete rant that they never reduce their prices under any circumstances - she was so aggressive and rude that another customer came over to me to see if I was alright and to say there was no need for that and it put her off shopping there. I know it's a charity shop. I'm shopping in charity shops because I'm on a pension and can't afford to pay shop prices. Charity should help people both ways especially at this time. When I give items to charity shops, I hope the person buying is also helped by the low price. Charity shops like Cancer research seem to be big business now and have lost their way in helping people. Regardless, I should not have been treated the way I was. Jean

Horrible manager

My mum and i have both had a few negative experiences in the Holloway Road store
My mum has bought items that upon arriving at home were found to be damaged, she went back straight away and had to insist to get a full refund as they were refusing completely.
I went in last week and found a lovely pair of trousers from M&S, i was in a rush and had no time to try them on. I asked one lady if i could buy them and try at home and return if they didn't fit. The Mediterranean woman (possibly the manager) instantly butted in and said no refunds, only exchange that i needed to try in store. Bare in mind at this time i was wearing a pair of trousers i bought in another CRUK that i was told was okay for a full refund.
I asked why and she became very argumentative. In the end i left the trousers as i was put off by the very unwelcoming shop clerk.
