Spoiled Meat and Poor Customer Service – Refund Refused

I ordered 16 ribeye steaks from Butlon (Order #26-00015222, placed on 28-03-2026) for €72 and had a very disappointing experience.

When I defrosted 4 steaks for a barbecue, they gave off a strong unpleasant smell that suggested the meat was spoiled. Since I took pieces from both boxes, I had concerns that the entire order was affected.

I contacted customer service immediately and explained the issue clearly. Instead of properly investigating or offering a refund, they dismissed the complaint and said they cut the meat while frozen, so the shape and thickness may differ from the advertised product photos. They then offered only a €25 voucher instead of refunding unsafe meat.

What was most concerning was the response that their quality would naturally be lower than a local butcher because they are cheaper. Lower prices should never mean questionable quality or selling meat that smells off.

I even offered to provide photos and have an independent local butcher inspect the meat, but they still refused to resolve the issue fairly.

Very poor customer service, no accountability, and I would not trust ordering meat from Butlon again.

I am very dissatisfied with my ribeye…

I am very dissatisfied with my ribeye (Entrecote) steak order, purchased on January 24th as part of a promotion for €24.99 and received on the 27th. When cooked, the meat was excessively tough and rubbery, making it inedible. Ribeye steak is normally very tender, juicy, and fatty, but instead, the fatty part was mostly sinew. When I called Butlon, communication was very difficult. Finally, the customer service representative told me that the meat was not good quality, that they ordered the meat from Germany, and that the only option was to give me a €5 voucher or a €5 refund. First of all Butlon, consumer rights exist, and you are not complying with the law. It is your problem if you receive poor quality or incorrect meat to sell; you must be responsible for your own mistakes. A customer should be full refunded in these cases or resend order.

Extremely bad customer service. I made an order, which they could not deliver on time due to the weather. This would cause the order to arrive after the event I had planned, so I told them to cancel the order. They said it is already at the delivery company, so I told them to change the address so they could receive the order themselves and issue a refund. They stopped answering after this (this was 9 Jan 2026) and tried to deliver 2 times despite me cancelling the order within the allowed timeframe. Today it is the 29th of January and the 2 weeks as per law to issue a refund have passed. Despite several emails sent and proof of cancellation also from the delivery company, they just stopped answering.

Their number keeps giving a message they are too busy and can't answer. No answer on my mail for a refund request, as previous users have already mentioned: they just stop answering when your question is too difficult or if it is regarding a refund.

It shows ZERO customer service attitude or interest. I have sent them a final mail before starting proceedings to have my money returned.

I will keep this post updated accordingly.

I regularly enjoy shopping at Butlon some years. Particularly recently, there have been no errors in my orders and communication has been prompt, which is very pleasing. The delivery company is on time and notifies me of the approximate delivery time beforehand, which is also really convenient.

They repackage they same exact product and they selling it for premium ribeye Yung meat 2kg 40€
I know that because was buying ribeye

And I day order riblappen and it was they same meat exactly with the same nutrition value 98% meat 2% salt...Then I realized was paying almost DOUBLE MONEY FOR THE SAME PRODUCT

However, this is not the case. The 8 pieces of Ribeye Steak 250g have been part of our assortment for a long time and are not a replacement for the beef stew cuts (Riblappen rund).
The beef stew cuts were a temporary product we offered, and these two items are unrelated.

We would also like to point out that our product range changes frequently, as we specifically purchase surplus stock to help reduce food waste. As a result, some items may sell out quickly and be removed from the website shortly after.

I give 3 stars because I was really excited about the "Picanha" steaks I bought, but it happens that the """PICANHA""" was pork.

I mean, who the F calls pork Picanha, they mention its pork on the little letters but man, no one good on their head calls pork Picanha, I'm not sorry you're wrong on this one. Although the steaks were amazing, I was disappointed that it was not beef.

Again, everything is excellent, the chicken, wine, the other steaks I bought that actually were beef (French Entrecote), Shrimps...

Please change this because it's misleading, is like buying Mercedes made in Pakistan...

Good deals, but there is a bad side:


-They do not "pay propper attention" to the labels of their products: in my case I bought eggs suppossed to be from free range but they had code 3 (the worst type possible, used when chickens are raised in cages)
-Despite being obliged by law to accept returns during 14 days for non-consumable products, if you want to return one they will not. I am still fighting with them to give back some perfumes I bought and so far they are ignoring me.

I bought three times with them and in two I had issues, so watch out and be sure of what you buy.

Incessant spammers.
Their subscription cancellation option was hidden somewhere deep in privacy policy section. Guess what, that link gives 404 error. They also keep sending marketing messages to your phone. Doesn’t matter if you think you only provided your number for order tracking
