Not a people's credit union anymore

Applied for a loan. Got turned down. Since going to Great Western Credit Union, there's nothing great about it. There was a time you could borrow 3 times your savings. They took that away and started hard searches. Never did a hard search when it was Bristol Credit Union. If you had £500, you could borrow £1500. No searches. Completely different compared to 15 years ago. I closed all accounts and would not recommend them. If people are getting loans, they must be on £50,000 a year upwards.

Not a union they are now a payday lender

Not a union anymore they are farming out debts to cowboy firms who add on 300 pounds and the unions interest is the same as banco and amigo. They don’t care and any local government or charity needs to be careful in promoting this organisation because they are introducing their workers to loan sharks they need to be investigated by central government they are not the organisation they used to be.

Very bad rate when you transfer money…

Very bad rate when you transfer money to family in Egypt. Less than the market rate for the Euro against dollar. The market rate is 1 Euro = 1,09 UD dollar and Western Union transfers with 1 Euro = 0,99 US dollar.

I have been a member for so long and have always found them helpful. When it was Credit Union you received help you got your affordable loans. I have had thousands of pounds over the years to help my family and myself which I know I wouldn’t have got through any high street banks.
Now since being Great Western Credit Union this company has turned into any other high interest lender all you seem to be doing is paying interest as it incurs daily interest even on a payment holiday so basically your actual loan doesn’t go down. I appreciate all they have done for me but now it’s time to complain??? I had 2 months payment holiday and when I restarted payment they took the whole payment for interest. So basically didn’t help at all just making my loan last longer than ever. As for low interest rate lol they need to look at how they are treating their existing customers worse than Amigo George Banco and all the other misleading lenders

False Representations, Advertising and Reviews!

I would avoid as they drag you along explaining how they can help and you prove your credit worthyness, to be declined and told - based on your credit report! Except, they arent supposed to be doing that, or so they advertise? So when delving a little deeper, it seems this company exclusively lends to financial untrustworthy people, as they will earn them the most in fee's and charges. Let alone, the lower amounts you request, the higher the interest - the more appealing for them to lend!
When it comes to a simple debt consolidation, with proof, they are absolutely useless as I will not be able to be bullied in future or pillaged of every penny.

An absolute awful company

An absolute awful company. Says the loans are affordable. What a complete lie. Not very clear with communication and not helpful. If you are in financial difficulty they don't have your best interests at heart. All about the profit, not good for the customer. New customers having trouble with money, STAY AWAY. Otherwise you will spiral down a hole and find it almost impossible to get out

Poor Service

Poor communication, resulting in me having to chase them constantly, lack of information resulting in me having to chase up as my documentation kept getting rejected (rules around appropriate documentation were questionable at best - My driving license could not be taken as proof of address to add me as Trustee to my son's CTF account, even though the address was the same. Utility bill had to be within three months (not helpful when outside of that period) to be met with an automatic reply and poor response rates meaning I was chasing and chasing and not getting much back in the way of useful information. Not experienced that level of customer service for a while. If the team put a little more effort into solving the issues in the first place, they might find their inbox levels reduce!

Gives loans to people of not so good credit scores

I like this company. They gave me loan when many could not give me and for that I’m grateful! However one thing I have against them is if your payment due date falls on a weekend, they take the money one day in advance without taking into account that you might not have the money that early. This somehow goes to show that they are really very serious about their money and do not care about your personal circumstances and the reason why you chose a specific day of the month. This is not good at all. Other companies charge you the next working day if the due date falls on a weekend which I find very humane/considerate and not desperate. Otherwise I have nothing to complain about regarding this company.

Waiting two weeks just to verify my login, let alone how long it's gonna take to get a loan. Seems like they have good reviews by the people they've actually helped, but I've never encountered a service where its taken so long just to login with no results. I thought they'd eventually answer me, Ive sent two emails and left several voicemails. Occasionally I hear a dial tone but no answer

Brilliant company

They have been amazing in helping me obtain a consolidation loan where other companies said I was not eligible, they do it based on affordability rather than your credit score which is so incredible. Can't thank them or recommend them enough.
