Do not do an IQ test through BrainsMate. When I did it earlier this year it cost me a couple of dollars (aud) which I agreed to pay and the next thing I was being charged a recurring cost of over $50 (aud) monthly for a subscription which I didn't request and never agreed to. Fortunately I had paid through PayPal and was able to cancel it. That was a while ago and now suddenly I get a charge directly to my credit account for just over $50. Where they got my card details from I don't know but steer very clear.

AVOID THIS WEBSITE. Extremely misleading billing practices.
I authorized a ONE-TIME payment of $1 to access my IQ test results. I did NOT knowingly agree to a subscription, recurring payments, or any future charges.
A few days later, another $1 was charged to my card, followed by an unexpected charge of $39.99.
What makes this even worse is that when I logged into my account to investigate, there was absolutely NO visible active subscription, billing history, or indication that I was enrolled in a recurring payment plan.
Only AFTER I contacted customer support to challenge the charges did they suddenly inform me that I supposedly had an active subscription.
When I demanded an explanation and a refund, they sent me a carefully highlighted screenshot of their website claiming that the recurring billing terms were disclosed during checkout. But a screenshot of what your website displays does NOT prove what was actually presented to me when I made my purchase.
I know what I agreed to. I agreed to ONE payment of $1. Nothing more.
And instead of addressing the actual issue, they hide behind a two-week refund policy, refusing to return money from a subscription I never knowingly authorized.
I have also found numerous other customer complaints describing remarkably similar experiences: an initial $1 payment followed by unexpected $39.99 charges.
This is not an acceptable way to conduct business. Customers should not have to investigate their bank statements to discover hidden recurring charges.
I am keeping all transaction records and correspondence and pursuing a formal dispute with my bank. I will also report these billing practices to the relevant consumer protection authorities.
If you are considering using this website, BE CAREFUL. Read everything, monitor your bank statements, and think twice before entering your card details.
A company that stands behind its billing practices should have no problem proving exactly what its customers agreed to. BrainsMate has yet to provide me with that proof.

Absolute scam, no mention of a subscription and no way to cancel online. Have emailed and informed my bank of the fraudulent activity of this company. disgusting

Be very careful when purchasing from Brainsmate. I completed an IQ test and was offered my results for a £1 fee. The checkout page clearly displayed £1 as the total, with no mention of a recurring £39.99 subscription anywhere near the payment buttons.
Shortly after, I noticed an unexpected charge of £39.99 on my account. When I contacted customer support to demand a refund, they initially refused, hiding behind their internal "refund policy." They also sent completely contradictory emails—first claiming they had already cancelled the subscription, and then telling me I had to contact a different team to cancel it.
When I formally rejected their excuses, provided screenshot evidence of the deceptive checkout screen, and threatened a bank chargeback and Trading Standards report, they tried to negotiate by offering a 50% refund, then 75%. I held my ground, refused to settle for anything less than what was owed, and they finally issued a full 100% refund.
Tips for others in the same situation:
1. Take screenshots of the checkout screen immediately.
2. Do not accept partial refund offers (like 50% or 75%) if you did not authorize a subscription.
3. Escalate firm emails citing deceptive design, UK consumer protection, and bank chargebacks.
4. If they refuse, go straight to your bank for a chargeback using your screenshots as evidence.
5. Do not fall for the whole “company policy” doesn't apply to you if you never authorised a payment.

The 1€ fee from the iq-test is very misleading. Cancelling subscription is made really hard since you can’t do it on the website. Currently waiting for them to answer my email, and for them to delete the subscription before I get any additional charges.

Not receiving my score via email once I've paid.
