O star if I could!

I purchased a skirt from Billy J listed as a size Small (chart says 70–72cm). The skirt I received measures just 62cm around. When I raised this, Billy J refused to acknowledge the clear sizing fault. Instead, they repeatedly insisted it was “sized correctly” or the sizing chart is a loose guide and implied the problem was me — telling me to wear it higher on the waist or leave the inside button undone (which would expose underwear). That is not a styling choice, it’s unwearable.

What made this experience worse was the complete lack of care in their responses. Rather than showing concern or taking responsibility, they went back and forth stubbornly, flatly denying any issue and brushing off my complaint. Reviews on other colours of this exact skirt clearly show other customers reporting the same sizing issue, yet they still refused to admit fault.

In the end, they only agreed to refund me and waive the postage, but even then framed it as a “gesture of goodwill.” Let’s be clear: this is not goodwill. Under Australian Consumer Law, when a product is not as described, a refund and return postage are a legal right.

There’s a big difference between a customer “wearing it wrong” (their implication) and a product being misleading and mis-sized. Billy J’s handling of this shows they’d rather gaslight their customers than accept responsibility. They knew they’d lose if escalated, yet still wasted time with stubborn, dismissive replies. It’s not just poor service — it’s arrogant disregard for the very people keeping their business alive.

The wrap skirt you purchased is designed with an adjustable fit and is intended to sit higher on the waist. As explained via email, our size chart is a general body guide rather than a direct garment measurement reference. The skirt in question was not deemed faulty or incorrectly described based on its intended fit and design specifications, which have been successfully sold to hundreds of customers without reported sizing issues.

That said, we do understand that fit preferences can vary and regret that this skirt didn’t meet your expectations. Despite maintaining that the sizing was correct, we did ultimately offer a full refund and covered your return shipping - not as an obligation under our policy, but as a goodwill gesture to bring the matter to a resolution swiftly and respectfully.

While we appreciate your concerns, we believe we handled your complaint fairly and in good faith. Our team remained responsive and courteous throughout the exchange, and we strive to resolve all customer issues with the same care.

Quality of clothing is extremely…

Quality of clothing is extremely inconsistent, as is the sizing. I had issues with the quality of one of the pieces I ordered and it took customer service 4 weeks !!! to respond (and only after I sent a follow up email!) only for them to tell me “it’s been discontinued, you can’t get a refund or store credit”

my dress quality and the measurements were perfect the delivery process was fast and efficient my dress came with a $100 wine voucher which was a crazy bonus and everything about Billy j was worth my money I love it

My ‘go-to’ online shop

I purchase clothing from Billy J regularly. Being in a remote town means there’s not many options for clothing locally, so I have to shop online. Billy J has such a great range, their clothing is excellent quality, and postage is quick.

Wonderful experience

The size options were amazing, fast delivery (Literally arrived on Thursday afternoon after I ordered on Tuesday morning) I needed to return my dress as I underestimated my size but the process was quick and easy. Great staff and fast click and collect service

What a lovely group of staff at the store and at the warehouse. Managed to get some beautiful clothes and loved that I could click and collect at the Sunshine Coast warehouse and save on postage.

Absolutely fraudulent company

Absolutely fraudulent company. Their sizes are so ridiculous and nothing like their advertised sizing, then they refuse to refund you, and charge for returns, making you continue to spend more money until you give up. They finally agreed to issue a refund then yet again gave a gift card. This is illegal and I am reporting them to consumer affairs.

Edit: in response to your reply. I have it IN WRITING from you that you will supply a full REFUND not a credit. The only reason I used a gift card was because the first order which was disgustingly under and over sized, was refused a refund and you forced me to get a gift card. You literally emailed apologising and saying you'll give me a refund, NOT A GIFT CARD. then refused.

Second edit: Yes you absolutely did receive an email, multiple in fact, expressing in detail my issue with your ridiculous clothing. I ordered all size 12 items, and half came as a size 6 and half came as a size 20 - i was only able to wear a few items out of the huge order i placed. I emailed outlining all the issues with the clothing, and emailed again about my disappointment that your fraudulent company then charge us to return the faulty items and then refuse to refund and make us buy all new faulty items!!!

Please note, gift cards cannot be exchanged for cash.

Products come, completely see through… wouldn’t be able to we worn outside unless you want everyone to see your undergarments. Contacted customer support but no reply…. Other bands from the site are lovely.

Hope they don’t send you faulty merchandise as it will be a major pain to get reimbursed

This company sent me out a stained dress which I purchased during the mid year sale. I ask for an exchange for a non-stained dress and of course they don’t do exchanges. So they make me purchase the dress again but it is now back to its original price approximately $30 higher and after I argue with them they agree to refund the difference between the sale price and the standard price but act like they are doing me a favour by doing this (Babes you sent me faulty merchandise it’s literally the least you can do). Anyway after informing them I will need a refund for the stained dress not store credit as this is my right under Australian consumer law, they issue me store credit. Now about two months later I am still righting with them to process the refund. Initially they issued store credit dispute my right toy and refund and me stating that I would need a refund. Now they have supposedly cancelled the store credit but still not refund. This has been a major pain and has caused me significant stress.
