Zero sympathy

Zero sympathy.
I tried to insure my 11 year old child after being given a recent poor diagnosis. The person I spoke to had zero sympathy for the situation we were in, spoke about my child like she was just a number and some diagnosis.
I am heart broken for the diagnosis, and just wished I spoke to someone who at least had a little sympathy within them and not the coldness, reading from a script I received

Turned down by Staysure

Turned down by Staysure after being with them for 13 years. I am 83 and had a prostectomy in 2010 but because I still have PSA tests they think I’m still being followed for prostate cancer. Biba found me an insurer who did not even consider prostate cancer as an issue given the removal took place 16 years ago.

Travel insurance gone wrong

I was facing a big problem with my travel insurance with only 2 days before i was due to fly.
I was put in touch with BIBA by a specialist broker. My situation was explained and whilst it wasn't the outcome i wanted it was a comprehensive answer.
Once completed i was sent a copy of the conversation by e mail.
Couldn't ask for more

Good enough

The site of British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA), at biba.org.uk, presents itself as a well-established portal for insurance brokers and intermediaries in the UK. It clearly communicates BIBA’s role: representing about 1,800 regulated firms, supporting more than 100,000 employees, and acting as a voice for the general-insurance intermediary sector. The website offers a range of resources: membership details, compliance support, broker-find services, news, publications, and an accessible interface designed to be usable by people with different needs — a plus for accessibility.

On the positive side, its information architecture is fairly complete, with up-to-date content (like the latest “The Broker” magazine, compliance rules, and guides) making it useful for professionals in the insurance industry. The site’s longevity and heritage also add credibility: domain-age and security-analysis sites mark biba.org.uk as legitimate with a 100/100 trust score, citing its long registration, stable ownership, and proper security practices.

However, the site is not without shortcomings. First, as reflected in user-feedback platforms, experiences with BIBA’s referral or broker-matching services seem mixed. On review sites, BIBA (or rather the brokers they refer) hold a moderate average rating (~2.9/5) — many users cite unresponsive follow-ups, long delays for quotes, or poor communication after the initial contact. > “waste of time don’t bother calling them no help what so ever!” Another frequent complaint is lack of follow-through: some users report being passed around multiple agents only to get no quotes back even after repeated follow-ups.

Moreover, because BIBA mostly serves as a referral/association body rather than a direct insurance provider, the actual customer experience depends heavily on third-party brokers. That means the quality and reliability vary widely — something not fully apparent when browsing the website itself. There's limited transparency about individual brokers’ performance or consistency.

In summary: biba.org.uk serves its core purpose well. For someone seeking information about insurance-broker associations, industry standards, compliance guidance or to start a broker search — the site is formal, resourceful, and credible. But if you're expecting quick service, dependable customer-oriented outcomes (insurance quotes, claims processing, support), the real-world feedback suggests uneven performance.

Rating: 3/5 — Functional and honest in scope, but real-world execution via associated brokers seems inconsistent, limiting trust for end-users.

Lovely compassionate woman took…

Lovely compassionate woman took extensive details but no apparent provision for what we needed - a quote for medical or death repatriation given that my husband would not be covered for undiagnosed problems.

Excellent Service & Price…

My panel van was insured with Direct Line for my gardening business however I wanted to carry goods for my son on law which comes under the term higher and reward. Direct Line do not cover for Higher & Reward. I was it onto BIBA who put me through to a broker who got me a very fair deal. Straight forward with no issues, I'm more than happy.

Empty promises!

I was directed to biba when our farm insurance refused to renew as we’d made a previous claim for flooding (the cause of which has now been rectified). The NFU and others also refused insurance. I was told by a biba rep insurance wouldn’t be a problem. That was a month ago. I’m still waiting for quotes despite constantly chasing, apparently no one is coming back to them! I find it incredibly hard to believe that one simple claim could cause so much future distress! I only want public liability and they say the flood claim affects that! Just how exactly? Or is that because you can then justify adding a few extra zeros to the policy? Just confirms my belief all insurance companies are robbing you-know-what’s!

Rip off phone charges

I was dismayed when I received my phone bill to find that I had been charged £23.40 for being on the phone to BIBA for 29 minutes.
The company they referred me to was very expensive compared to the one I found myself. The company I found had better reviews and commendations.

Struggling to find suitable travel…

Struggling to find suitable travel insurance due to my health.
Lady at BIBA very kindly tried two companies to find out if they could help.
One company was able to give me a policy, very pleased with the help from BIBA.

They do not keep commitments

I was referred for an additional quote. After speaking with a receptionist at 03709501790, I was asked to hold for sales. I spoke to a sales rep who was not provided with details. I provided details a second time. Now I'm put through to a third sales rep who also had zero details. I provided them, AGAIN! I was then told he would call a broker and ring me back on Monday morning at 09:00.

It's now TWO weeks later. NO CALL BACK!

Clive - great service

I spoke to a consultant called Clive. My circumstances for booking travel insurance are quite complicated, but Clive was extremely helpful at talking through the best options and managing the situation with me. He was very patient on the phone and very helpful.

not even a start

I called to ask for an insurance quote and after waiting in line for some time, I finally managed to speak to an agent. She used insurance jergon, and when I tried to explain my case to find a solution, she became very patronising. I'm very disappointed. I will not get a quote from BIBA, and for sure I will not get an insurance with them. Not a good start!

BIBA Relatively unknown Association provide Brilliant referral service!

Had to search for Unoccupied House Insurance because Churchill were unable to provide when my Mother's Insurance with them expired after she had moved house! BIBA were efficient and excellent. Not happy with first referral quote so called them again and they referred me to HIGOS Insurance who saved the day! (Separate post to follow!) Unsung heroes, BIBA are great. THANK YOU! Rob.
