They will do whatever it takes to not protect you

My car was hit by a drunk driver while I was asleep. Police knocked on my door to inform me (and caught the driver). This resulted in a 10-page, 75 line item repair estimate by the manufacturer themselves (not some third party). The repair cost was 24K + taxes + any supplemental surprises (almost 30K total).

Worth noting that I pay for valeur à neuf, meaning Beneva have calculated the cost of providing me a new vehicle in the additional premium they charge me for every month. Could have been a cut and dry put me in a new vehicle, avoid any safety risks or liability, and move on. Instead, my file had to be dragged along for 2 months because I could not fathom that they were trying to repair this vehicle.

When I kindly asked them to back their numbers up on how they got to the value of my vehicle, their response was that it is correct because they hired a firm to calculate it.... as if that doesn't make me question the valuation even more. Value aside, next topic was safety, which overrides any valuation.

You would think a vehicle with 30K in damages, representing almost 60% of the value of the car (a Tesla no less, so high technology sensors, cameras, batteries, etc.) in no way, shape, or form would be safe to put back on the road. Beneva argued that they felt that this vehicle will be safe for me to drive. Seems like a huge risk to me and my family; one that is totally avoided with a new vehicle, which I pay the additional premium for.

Negligence is an understatement. Hoping for my family and I's sake that the vehicle with 30K in repaired damages reacts the way it should in any potential future collision.

(Oh, and the vehicle lost 18K in value overnight as it is now an "accidented vehicle". But Beneva gets to wipe their hands clean because "insurance in Quebec does not cover diminished value". I guess that's more of a knock on Quebec insurance as a whole. Disgusting industry)

Their app and website do not match information on your claims. I have a claim waiting over a month and im still getting no answer from Beneva. And its for less than $100. Im completely covered, but their claims division is very slow. Our previous carrier SSQ that was taken over was awesome - now its horrible Beneva.

terrible insurance company

The company i work for used to use manulife which was great. Beneva has been nothing but a nightmare to deal with. They won't cover an expensive medication I am on for diabetes. I submitted claims to have sessions by a psychologist for my son to be reimbursed and they keep rejecting the claims without stating a reason. After i FINALLY get ahold of them, they say i need to have a doctors note to have sessions covered. So i get a doctors note and they still won't cover it. They try everything in their power to not reimburse you. Also something terrible is a huge privacy breach. I logged onto my account and for whatever reason another members information was there, I could see their names, what meds they are taking based on what has been covered for them, etc etc - i did call Beneva right away and they addressed it and corrected it failry quickly but still...how does that happen. I still have the screen shots and email i sent to them about it, just in case i need the information later. They are shady AF and it wouldn't surprise me if they try to say this never happened. Terrible company...i would give negative stars if i could. Myself and some coworkers are trying to convince our employer to go back to Manulife

Bad customer service

Only an insurance company can tell to a disabled person that a training prosthesis isn't medically necessary to improve their health. So much for compassion. They will say that It's because of your employer fault and anyone then themselves. Shitty cie

Terrible Customer service.

I used to have my life insurance with La Capitale, which merged with Beneva. After the merger, I wanted to make sure all my information was correct but I was not able to access my account online. I talked to a representative on the phone and they said that my account was not ready for the online access. That was more than 2 years ago. Recently, I wanted to update my information because I moved and I was changing banking information, and I was still not able to access my account online. I called Beneva and after waiting in the phone for more than an hour they told me they will connect me with the tech service. I had to wait another hour and when I finally spoke with them they could not find my account for over 20 minutes. When they finally found my account they still could not give access online. If they are having such a terrible customer service to just switch bank information I can't imagine how it will be if I need to do a claim. I am switching providers!!!

I’m very disappointed with Beneva

I’m very disappointed with Beneva. It’s always a challenge to reach anyone there. I originally had life insurance with La Capitale, which later became part of Beneva, and when I tried to cancel my policy, it turned into a two-month nightmare of endless back-and-forth.

They kept charging me even after my cancellation request, and there seems to be no straightforward way to resolve it. There’s no direct phone number, just constant transfers and long wait times of 1–2 hours, only to be told the office is closed and to call back the next day.

It feels like a trap — easy to sign up, but nearly impossible to reach someone when you actually need help.

Worse insurance company I've ever seen.

Worse insurance company I've ever seen.
Unfortunately I'm forced to use them through my employer. Honestly thinking of quitting my job so I can stop giving them my money. I decided to start therapy but unfortunately due to terrible Beneva service I think I'll have to stop. When sending a claim, it won't let you send the proof documents/receipts with it (like any common sense insurance companies). You have to wait a week for them to tell you it's denied and you need to send the receipt for proof. Of course they don't tell you how and I had to search all over for an email address (which apparently they rarely respond to). So we'll see in a few weeks I guess if they ever do. Sending it by mail everytime would be incredibly stupid also. Unfortunately I don't have the money upfront for months of therapy hoping to one day get part of it reimbursed. I pray I never have to have to do with them for any thing else, which is amazing since I pay almost 200$ a month from pay paychecks for this useless crap. Oh and also theres at least 45min wait if you dare to call them

I wish I could give negative stars

I wish I could give negative stars. My experience with this insurance company has been terrible. I called customer care about my recent term insurance policy. The lady on the call yelled at me for asking simple questions. I felt so bad that I ended the call. I will now cancel my policy.

Stay away from them if at all possible

Stay away from them. They will not pay even when it’s clearly covered by the policy. They try to wear you out by :

1) Not answering.

2) Going on vacation.

3) Quoting vague by-laws that only favour them.

4) Being condescending to you.

5) Dismissing industry professional proofs of responsibility.

Basically, you rack up 30 hours of running after them and then you feel like you should be doing something else with your life. Really not a deal.

Thank you, Beneva, for 10+ years of excellent service!

I have been with Beneva for over 10 years and could not be happier with their service. My experience with them has always been excellent, but one event stands out — when I had a total loss accident. They took care of absolutely everything right away, and to my surprise, they did not increase my premiums for the next car I got. That kind of fairness and professionalism is rare, and I truly appreciate it.

I wish Beneva continued success, because they truly deserve it. It’s unfortunate to see some of the nonsense written here on TrustPilot, often by people hiding behind fake names. This is why you should never blindly trust negative reviews — many of them are not genuine.

I am posting this with my real name, and I live in Montreal. If I had a bad experience with Beneva, I would still post a negative review — but I would have the courage to do it under my real identity. Shame on those who lie under hidden or fake identities.

Thank you, Beneva, for 10+ years of excellent service!

Beneva Experience Less than Ideal

I had originally been with La Capitale, and I needed to change my payment information. I've made 6 calls and 2 emails to Beneva.

My emails have gone into the ether; I haven't heard back. And I finally got in touch with an agent over the phone who basically wasn't equipped to handle my call inquiry; agent wasn't resourced to be able to help get me into my Beneva dashboard to view my policy and understand how I can change the payment details for my La Capitale Life Insurance Policy.

This was frustrating to say the least. I can't even imagine trying to make a claim with this company after this experience, where I'm simply trying to do what should seemingly be "basic".
