My only purpouse was to open an online bank account. No way to do it, I spoke with 3 agencies in Málaga, 5 calls with their customer service. The most umpleasant experience, no customer service culture, non even the basic of politeness.
Stay far from them, especually from the agencies in Málaga

Awful
Impossible to use the app if you are a longstanding client without a mobile phone number recorded on the system (account predates mobiles) or a debit card (dont have one of those either as the bank is used only for standing orders and direct debits.) The only way to set up the app is to go to branch (Seville) which is not feasible so you have no idea how much is in the account. They cant help, couldn't offer any suggestions as to how to resolve this and then cut me off.
Rude, unhelpful and unprofessional
This bank promotes itself as good for foreign nationals but they get extremely angry and confrontational when you don't speak Spanish very well. They shout what they are saying to you over and over again, in Spanish. It's very rude and so unprofessional. There was no one I could speak to in English, there was no attempt to help me solve my issue of trying to make an international payment which they blocked. As soon as they realise you're not Spanish, they are abrupt, defensive unhelpful and utterly rude.
BBVA probably pays to have its app…
BBVA probably pays to have its app reviewed positively. The app is a disaster; their 2 factor id is a joke: the instructions ask you, to generate the code, to select a menu item that does not exist.... They flood app stores with tens of apps, without specifying which is for which country... You find out after downloading the app that it's for Mexico or Peru. Tragic.
How does BBVA remain in business?
Re; my previous review (please read), I did give BBVA a second chance, as I was going to Playa Flamenca Costa Blanca. I got a friend to arrange an appointment at Punta Prima nearby. On arriving for the appointment I was told that the person was away. I explained to the lady I was only in Spain for 2 days more so she agreed to see me in about 45 minutes. so off for a coffee in local bar. I finally had my chat explaining all my issues including not being able to access my online accounts and that as I still did not have a debit card, so could not use the account. She promised to contact the branch where my account was later that PM. And would call me DEFINITELY without fail in the AM next day (Friday), to arrange for me to see her again and sort everything out. GUESS WHAT NO CALL! So went into Bankinter made an account and received a debit card in the post at home in UK within less that a week.
I had no bank account in Spain but…
I had no bank account in Spain but needed a personal loan. I came across their advertisement, which promised fairly reasonable interest rates and claimed that opening an account was not a requirement; I could simply apply online. This sounded perfect, so I went ahead and applied. Later, they sent me an email asking me to visit a branch - hmmm, wasn't it online application? In any case, I took the time to go in person, only to hear their staff sarcastically remark, "If you want a loan from us, you have to open an account with us, right?" Well, that's not what their advertisement stated, but despite the terrible customer service, I agreed to open an account.
They collected all my information, scanned all my documents, but never got back to me, not even to inform me that my account had been rejected. However, I'm stubborn, so I decided to give them a second chance. This time, no loan was involved; I simply wanted a Spanish IBAN. I applied through their app, but once again, I was told to visit a branch - it seems they don't understand what an online application means. To avoid encountering the previous sarcastic employee, I visited a different branch. The staff there insisted on obtaining a sworn translation of my payslip. They genuinely believe I'm willing to spend 40-50 EUR to translate a document that mostly consists of numbers and can be understood by anyone. So I decided to give up. No BBVA for me, and after reading the reviews here, I believe that may have been the best outcome. In the end, N26 provided me with a Spanish IBAN in just 5 minutes. Openbank, while not as efficient, was still much easier. So avoid BBVA
Be aware digital nomads, avoid this bank
Be aware digital nomads! Don't use this bank. Although you have an ONLINE account they still require your presence at an office. I once lived in Tenerife and used a BBVA office in Puerto de la Cruz. I had an issue, it was very small, but they insisted I'd come to the office in Tenerife. If you travel around, you just can't hop on a plane just to show your face it's you or to sign a document. They never heard of video calls (doesn't work) or digital signing??? Frustrating! Nobody speaks English nor any other language than Spanish. Not international nor service orientated.
Avoid this bank!
As bad as it gets.
One of the worst corporate entities in Spain, or anywhere. I give them one star because there is no lower option.
I have a home in Spain, in a small community in Manilva. BBVA owns four of the 23 houses in the community, some legacy issue between them and a long bankrupt developer. BBVA pays no community charges, preferring to let the existing homeowners carry them as parasitic passengers. Maintenance issues are looked after by the community in order to maintain the appearance of the neighbourhood, and the community had to deal with removing squatters and repairing damage on a couple of occasions. Yet this huge corporation is too miserable and grasping to pay their share, preferring to let ordinary people pay their bills.
The houses in question could be sold in the morning if BBVA bothered to put them on the market, there are plenty of buyers for them. But why should they, when they can sit on an appreciating asset and let other people pay to maintain it?
BBVA has no moral or ethical.stadards, a worrying prospect for anyone investing with them or entrusting funds to them for safe keeping.
There are other, better banks out there. Avoid this one.
BBVA customer agent - anti English/anti foreigner
BBVA customer service:
I asked the person kindly in Spanish whether i can talk in English, she yelled: NO! and hung up immediately, instead of transferring me to the relevant department. Understandable attitude towards customers. There was no way to speak to someone. I sent an email to make a complain, let's see if they will handle that woman with attitude. If they do something about it, I will delete this review. If I don't delete that means BBVA didn't care at all and that nonsense continues.
Refund of charges on fraud
My most sincere recognition to your valuable task, where commissions and margin due to interests have grown by 32% accordingly to latest reports, thanks to your policy towards and against private customers. Additionally celebrating the value dates of BBVA. 110k staff in Galicia. However, the most valuable is toward your customers. I’m more than six months claiming and reporting to your teams of customer advocate, Ms Rodriguez, Ms Valenzuela, Mr. Rafael García-Valdecasas Fernández - Head of Defensor del Cliente de BBVA, and Mr. Carlos Torres Vila - as Presidente/Chairman- and lately since a month and a half claims addressed to Mr. Onur Genc -CEO BBVA- as late and last hope because of being charged 234€ on fraud by BBVA. Asked to be reimbursed no news and being addressed to proceed with Banco de España. But you, BBVA does nothing. Good words and promises. However no action. Just silence. You will promote and publish results and good practices. Value Day in Galicia. Try to look inside, path for honesty, be transparent, coherency and comply with your private and small customers first, prior to anything. You must lead this. It’s really a shame but I will keep on sharing this issue in social networking as I promised Mr. Genc till my 234€ had been refunded. The issue is escalated. But I’m as I was. If the issue is solved I will publish result as well.
Avoid Calle Larios Branch in Malaga
I got a referral through my friend to join this bank and use their online registration and "bank transfer" service. Everything went super smooth until I was told to do "the last step" before activating the BBVA acount - I JUST need to go the bank and show my ID to identify myself.
I was told to go to the Calle Larios branch in Malaga. The branch in the main street of Malaga.
I went.
The bank was empty, the employees were doing nothing. They told me I need an appointment to get identified. I said my bank app told I just need to show a passport. They did not listen to anything reasonable. the only thing they did is a) not listen and b) shouted I need an appointment. In the end it was a stupid mistake on my end - I said ok, give me appointment. Impossible, they said :). They gave me a Madrid's BBVA helpline (generic number) and visibly showed how they want me to just leave the branch. I said - I am already in the branch, why I need to call a generic helpline? Another mistake on me - why I thought these incompetent employees will have the brain power to logic? So, when they again told me to f off, I called the line - > the line said "sure, someone from THE BRANCH will call you back".
They never called.
BBVA -> if you invest millions in advertisement and online experience, you should review your whole service design and look into the branch's employees and customer service. I mean, you are even worse than Orange and Movistar - and it is not an easy task (for such - be proud!).
At the end of the day you just lost a client who wanted to transfer his current bank to your platform. Additional credit lines, mortgage, insurance, credit cards - wow, thats quote a number! I also like to refer good businesses to my other friends - so just that you understand: you lost me, and you lost at least a few more clients. I will also make it one of my life's goals to tell everyone never to sign with BBVA. besides that -> all great. Have a nice day.
This people are crooks.

They are overcharging my loan by raising the interest for no reason and they don't react back on the ongoing ticket.
I am with this bank since I am working in spain but I really really recommend all of you to stay away from them.

Constantly trying to get to talk with…
Constantly trying to get to talk with someone via email so I can communicate, never reply, when they do its weeks later, and then never get a follow up. Then randomly will get an email back, and it says contact us via the phone or app!
Despite me having 4 accounts, many insurance products, and cards, a loan, and self employment payments, I feel the customer service is terrible.
I don't know how many emails I've sent…
I don't know how many emails I've sent by now, but it's a joke. I'm trying to get a hold of someone by email so that I can repay my debt. Standard reply, contact us via app or go to the office. Can't go to the office cause I no longer live in Spain. The app doesn't give me a contact email nor does the book an appointment work. App is poor, the whole bank is poor.
It is so very easy what I'm asking for. Put me in contact with someone that can tell me how to pay them back
They are connected with government
They are connected with government. If you own some money to government, they will charge you all money straight away without ask you
This bank is working for government, not for the customers so be careful
I’m recommending N26 if you need bank in Spain
A very bad company BBVA
A very bad company. service is only by the grace of an employee you know. You wait more than one our to pick up money because the bank card failed... terrible number system... works oposit...number which has been taken care of goes below out of screen. your number is still not available. choose different bank and f* them here
Awful banking experience
Awful banking experience. Truly awful. To open an account they make you take out household insurance, which I am not sure is even legal and then they retain your money with no explanation and noone seems to be able to help. Even closing the account is not easy. I cannot recommend any part of their operation. You'd be better off keeping cash under your mattress...
Update, I tried to make a credit card transaction of nearly 3000 euros which went wrong and although the money never left my account, BBVA is now withholding it for 30 days!! This isn't mandated by EU or Spanish law, it is their company policy!! Even then, if the money is not released within 30 days, I have to go cap in hand and beg for it back!! Can you imagine if they do this to every credit card transaction that goes wrong? How many millions of euros they get to withhold for a month, each and every year? Who gets the benefit of all that compound interest? One complaint to the Banking Ombudsman coming up....
